The problem with a player like Taco, as I said before, is that speed isn’t really an asset, so he has to get it done with technique or power. He seems a bit lazy, so that’s problematic.

And then there's that. Not sure he's destined to remain a Cowboy when the Turk makes his rounds but we'll see. He's picked up the pace for sure, though. It might render him a little more valuable in a possible trade. Keeping him would more than likely mean parting with someone more productive. It's a slippery slope, any way you slice it.

well according to those watching closely at practices, hes better , its starts at practice and hes starting to get what it takes the week prior to games to get the coaches to trust you more in games..his lack of effort always started in practice..look it takes some guys longer then others to figure out how to e professional and how to practice and prepare etc..they came from being BMOC and not doing much in college to being on the bench and trying to EARN playing time..

I think fans expecting every player picked high to just come in and start and take the nfl by storm are the ones who are disappointed by their own expectations.. hes learning maybe he finally gets it..

While he may still have time to prove he still belongs on an NFL roster, he was certainly over drafted at best. He was a developmental player from the minute he was drafted.

First rounders should flash why they were drafted high almost immediately even if they can’t start. If a first round player can’t lock down a starting gig by his second year, on a team that desperately needed a player at his position, then it’s pretty hard to argue at the very best he was over drafted.

That is at least based on what we have seen so far out of him. If he has taken this long to turn it on because he is lazy or mentally lazy it would be a mistake to give him a second contract even if he turns it on unless it’s performance based.

Well, if he is a bust, why are we looking for him to step up.
This is his third year. He should make significant progress this year if he wants to stick with this team.
I'm not giving up on him, yet and I'm not worried.

Marinelli Draft picks since 2014 on the DL ( only considering players picked in the first 5 rounds)

DLaw - great pick
Randy Gregory - bad pick in round 2. Failed his NFL combine drug test and nothing has changed
ryan russell - bust
Charles Tapper - bust
M Collins - decent NFL player
Taco - looking like a bust
Dorrance Armstrong - hasn't played much
Tristen Hill ? not looking good
Joe Jackson ??

Lots of praise for a guy who recorded 0 tackles against a collection of guys who ranged from 2nd string to future fry chef at Denny's (future being next month).

Maybe he needs to go against Mitch Hyatt to record a tackle.

how is this on Marinelli alone? SJ and JJ make their own decsions.. btw the last 2 drafts I thought the D guru has a lot to say? when draft picks dont work its on the all of them Scouts coaches and FO..I trust them because most of the others drafted have been very good picks, we are loaded with draft picks who are not busts.. the only Blame on Marinelli is his reputation for making something out of nothing and wanting particular buld and dstyle of play at Dline and really Jerry and Stephen need to stop trusting that and go for BEST ON THE BOARD and not what they think fits best in their scheme, great players adjust to any scheme..get the best players at Dline if hes available..we all know who that was at this pick and its unfortunate lol

on that note it is time for KR to take over 100% and see how that goes RM and Garret should be gone at seasons end..yes yr to late at best :)) out with the old in with the new

Ppl need to stop coming for taco. They knew he wasnt a speed rushing end when they drafted him. The front office is to blame. I still think taco was a d law insurance policy at left end in case d law left
unfortunately, the policy was issued by "the general".

What about the Garrett sucks crowd?
glad you didn't mention another recently departed qb. as for taco, sometimes the light comes on late, for others it flickers, and for others it never comes on at all. taco has shown spurts, so i'm hoping it was just a late light. but whatever it is, it has to be this year.

Taco might end up being a first round bust but he will be a solid NFL player.

Taco has never looked terrible on the field IMO but he's not better then Randy Gregory so of course that will knock down his production.

He also looks like a left end trying to play Right End.

Taco playing is not some kind of weakness but so far it hasn't been a strength. If we don't see a bit of a breakout this year then we'll probably not resign him and he'll go on to some other team after his contract expires and go on to be a solid player somewhere else.

The way drafts are hindsight-evaluated on Cowboys Zone is:

If it’s a good draft pick, Will McClay made it.

If it’s a bad pick, then Jerry, Stephen, Garrett or one of the coordinators made it...depending on the poster’s agenda.

All picked at 28 over the last 10 or so years. Couple of guys went on to great careers. A couple of disappointments. And a few decent players. I’m sure you could go back 20,30 years and find the same kind of results.
Point is. Picking 28 is tough. Most teams grade out about 15-20 true first rounders each year. Has he been disappointing? Certainly. But to call Taco or anyone picked 28 or lower a bust is silly.
Wouldn’t surprise me to see him traded to or picked up by another team, then go on to have another 5-10 decent years as a rotational type player.
