Don't have any stats, but (to me) it seems as if ALL of his kicks veer to the right. Weird..................

Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but it seems his long kicks hook a little to the right and then hook left. Could be why he's iffy on shorter distances.

Week 1 Maher missed a 47 yard try off the right hash. (Wide right)

Next miss was week 7 vs the Commanders, the infamous LP D penalty, where Maher missed from the middle of the field.(Left goal post IIRC)

Week 9 against the Titans, 38 yard attempt off the right hash was no good. Wide right

Week 10, Maher missed from the right hash from 42 yards out against the Eagles (Cowboys leading 13-6) at the time

Week 14, he missed from the left hash, going wide right, from 45 yards. Eagles at home

Week whatever versus the Colts the kick was blocked

Week 17, Maher missed from the left hash going wide right from 34 yards

Playoff versus Seattle Maher missed wide right from the left hash. 58 yards.

  1. I felt Maher was very steady last season and then hit a rough patch for several weeks.
  2. One hates to see misses from short yardage, but isn’t that counteracted by his great success rate from long range? And while it’s frustrating, wouldn’t we rather see him miss from short range, giving the other team the ball with a long field, than see him miss from long range, giving the other team a short field?
  3. His kickoffs are very good. He’s a good kicker, not great at this point, entering only his second year in the NFL....shouldn’t we give him a chance to improve?
  4. Finally, I don’t think he ever missed an end of game, short FG, with the game on the line, so another optimistic side of this is that perhaps the idea that he might be a little shaky from short yardage kicks may result in Garrett taking a few more chances on fourth down when inside the 25.

So is Matt Bryant this years Earl Thomas, or is Eric Berry still in the mix? You know, the players that fans jump on and cram down the throat.

But I can get on board with Bryant at least.

When you list them like that, way too many misses. Gives it more perspective and shows how bad it may seem.
But a list of FG's he made, could counter that and show how good he can be also.
Still need TC competition though regardless.

He hit the upright to tie the game against Washington, after he was screwed out of the FG on the refs calling a bogus penalty on LP. But that attempt was from 5 yards further. Most K's probably would have missed.

Still not as bad as ice your own K game.

Yea. He had a long string of games where he was 100% as well.
IMO think it's a mental issue, as it is with a lot of kickers.

Only went through tape of the ones he missed due to the amount of time it would take to see where he was on the field for the ones he made.

Hubris on steroids. Someone there found the guy. They need to prove to the world he is really good. Can't kick from the right hash - what a crock.

Someone mentioned on another thread that Maher’s replacement in the CFL is an English soccer player who is 51 of 52 so far.

Lewis Ward was born in England, but played 4 years of college football in Canada before being signed by Ottawa.

He is 72 of 73 on FGs, now in his second season. His longest is from 53 yards.

Dan Bailey is gonna get cut, so a reunion could be real. But, YES, get some competition in oxnard.

They won't get rid of him...he's cheap and they love his leg strength. If he booms a few 50+ yarders then they will live with his shorter misses...unfortunately :(

Relax. Garrett has him practicing with his left foot for that.

My brother was a really good kicker and he used to kick lefty when he was on the right hash.
