What does Cooper Rush bring to this team?

Dude has Kellen Moore-like arm strength. Looked like he was playing catch with his kid out there last night.

If he sees any time as a starter, we are doomed
Says all 32 teams except maybe the Colts.

Rush plays objectively well against the Texans and we get threads like this. Some of you "fans" just see what you want to see. Facts be damn'd!

Yeah, but he showed some moxie. I remember Sanchez as being a good mentor but not clutch as a backup.

The change in Rush's confidence really seems to present a different picture of him. He delivers the ball without hesitation, whereas last year's version of this guy didn't suggest that at all. I think Kitna really did a yeoman's job in improving his skills. The same holds true for Dak. ;)

Absolutely -- far too many posters hereabouts are overly reluctant to change their original opinions of a player. Like any rifleman, there's no shame in re-adjusting one's sights to become more accurate! Rush may never be the "cat's meow" but I seriously doubt he'll ever be a "dog" again, either! :)

He's got to be one of the worst backup QBs in the league. Guys like Mark Sanchez and Matt Hasselbeck bounce around the league forever, because they have starting experience and can see the field. It's almost like having an extra coach.

Rush doesn't have starting experience that translates to games or seeing the field as a backup. His skills haven't really improved since he came into the league. Every ball he throws floats forever. No zip at all. He has a long windup, although he does seem to be reasonably accurate, but that's the only trait I can think of that is a positive. He doesn't really have much pocket presence or agility.

I know the peanut gallery will say we are screwed if Dak goes down, but what if it is just a couple of games and we need someone to keep us relevant? I don't think Rush is the guy to do that.
OMG...Sanchez...he maybe a coach on the field but he can't execute anything. perhaps Garrett should be a back up QB for the team....

just think about it, outside of some teams who drafted rookie QBs and they are back up/developed, who has a good back up QB situation.
New England with Hoyer,
New Orleans,
Miami has Fitzpatrick....perhaps he is a legit back up....
perhaps ravens, with Griffin,
Tenn, got Tannehill, former starter,
Rams got Bortles....former starter,

Eagles didn't want McCown (nobody did as he was sitting on his couch sipping coffee) until they had two injuries in camp and called him off his couch....
Colts had Brissett, but now, he is the starte and they are screwed

so that's about 6 teams, with perhaps a little decent, not great, but decent back up QB. the other 27 teams are screwed if the starter goes down. half the teams struggle with starting QB, and now you are complaining about Rush and what he brings to the table!!! lets put it this way, if a starter goes down, that team is pretty much screwed, except for the few above, where they may survive. the rest are done.

and lets kick rush out the door....lets bring in who? Sanchez!!! not thanks..I take rush....Hasselback!! really...that's your solution!?…..what else you got that would defintley clearly be better than Rush

and this is not defending Rush.....its easy to complain, but if you have no alternative solutions, then maybe we shouldn't complain!

If Romo were still playing, you could just enter Dak's name into this thread and most of it would be applicable.

Rush hasnt thrown a pass(am I mistaken?) in a real game?

So until he is given a chance, we dont know what he can do. He has looked pretty damn good this pre season IMO.
he has done mop up duty before.....he has not started obviously...

:lmao::lmao2::lmao: My God the ignorance! He knows the system inside out and has shown he can move the posts consistently. Sanchez, Hassleback? :lmao2::lmao::lmao2:

I like Cooper. I think he is a serviceable backup. His rookie preseason he looked very good. Last preseason, not so much. This season, he looks good again.

Funny story...

I was in the pizza place at the star Cooper's rookie year and saw a couple that are wearing his jersey. I told my wife that had to be his parents because who else has those jerseys. So, when they walked by I asked them. It was them and they were a very nice couple. Chatted with them for 10-15 minutes. I am pulling for the kid.

Not sure it matters, when you’re complaining about your backup QB then that’s pretty good as it means the rest of your roster is good. about 30 teams are sunk if their starter goes down. Sanchez isn’t saving any teams season, neither did Colt McCoy. Maybe belicheat can win a few with a backup but we can’t even win a game when one of our OL goes down, let alone our QB. I swear, JG would be lost if our punter went down for a game.

Rush is 41 of 67 (~62%) for this preseason.

Journeyman backup QBs with starting experience are generally over-rated.

Occasionally one like Foles is good, but more often teams get a 2015 Matt Cassel performance.

Ideally the backup would be a young QB with more upside.

Physically, Mike White had that potential, but he just doesn't have enough "moxie" to play QB in the NFL based on what we've seen from camp practices and the PS games.

Better to just save the money and keep Rush on a cheap contract.

They should consider finding another potential upside QB next year to bring to camp in place of White.
I have to Agree, Rush has improved and for short game or two he might be enough..I like how he doesnt panic, slides and MOVES up in the pocket and keeps his eyes down the field, In a lot of ways better then Dak because daks not a pocket QB.. Rush isnt great but getting better..

everyone wanted TB his preseason has looked pretty YAWN and Hill seems to have taken the lead at FT Bup in NO..

I guess my point is its hard to find ANY backup that can keep the ship afloat if your starter goes down..

Im betting if Dak did go down Rush finishes that game and the following week while the Cowboys go get vet to finish the season if Daks is season ending..

I don't fret about a Dak's health. Dak seems very resilient.

Cooper Rush brings job security for Dak Prescott. That's valuable for the team because . . . something, something, something.

Love the way "he's got to be" and then you go on to BBQ him.

Look around the league. Only a handful of decent backups. Heck, some starters are very average.

The Cowboys aren't the only team screwed if their starter goes down.

I have zero expectations of any backup QB.

Better explain that one to Jeff Hostetler, and Nick Foles bud.......

P.S. Rush is equal or better in certain areas than Dak (Accuracy,Poise in the pocket etc) so having to go with him as a starter isn't really gonna change (actually might improve) things as we have most Anemic passing game including our 29th red zone offense.
