So right is not right, wrong is not wrong, and signing your name to a legal contract means nothing.
No what's amazing is how fast some people can make excuses to justify anything that's unjustifiable.
I’d argue that it isn’t right that a running back should have to be committed to the team that drafted him at a rookie contract for most of his prime. I’d argue that it isn’t right that owners don’t have to honor the same contracts you are asking players to honor. If Zeke had flamed out and was a terrible running back, Jerry could have cut him and he wouldn’t have owed Zeke the 3.8 million you’re whining that Zeke isn’t satisfied with. It’s ok for the owners but not the players?

Prescott doing contract negotiations the right way

by Joel Deering

While Ezekiel Elliott holds out for a new contract, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott continues to show up, work hard and prove he’s a team player.

As the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, Prescott knows he’s going to get his money. It really comes down to a matter of when he gets it. But that’s not the reason he’s showing up to Cowboys camp every day. Prescott has been there for his team from the very beginning, because he actually wants to be a member of the Dallas Cowboys.

You need to read the contract dude. The contract says what it says. Both parties are totally bound to what ever the contract says.
Did Zeke sign it or did he not sign it?? And he signed onto the same kind of rules that all the other players signed onto.
But poor little prima donna Zeke is too good for the same rules as everyone else.

And what choice did he have? He had a slotted contract. Go do something else besides football? Again, antitrust exemption at play

He had as much choice as anyone else in the NFL had.....Play or go home! You think Zeke played college football and didn't know anything about how the NFL works?

Zeke made his own choice, quit acting like you feel sorry for the guy, he's already a multimillionaire and Jerry offered him a multi-multi-multi-millionaire contract and the greedy little prima donna turned his nose up at it for Pete's sake!
Jerry needs to just stop talks and let him sit in Cabo with no paycheck till Zeke is ready to come back to work.
Bottom line is Zeke needs to grow up and stop acting like a spoiled little brat!

That's all he had to say. The rest just sounds like a fan.

There's a big difference between feeling sorry for a person and understanding and supporting their use of the tools at their disposal in a given system.

BTW, I like your get off my lawn argument about him being a spoiled brat. Was Babe Ruth a spoiled brat when he held out for more money in 1922?

He's reportably asking for $40 million annually. That's the Cowboy way? He'll have zero talent around him.

It confounds me how many people fall for the Jones' shtick of negotiating in public. Jerry is counting on the fans turning on the players because most fans see players as employees and make some false equivalency of a sports contract being like a contract anywhere else in the private sector. Most fans don't realize the impact of the antitrust exception, the CBA and the short expected life span that all work to minimize the rights of the laborers. The average fan has none of those factors to deal with when they negotiate contracts.

And many here fall for it hook, line and sinker.

"The right way," i.e., keeps me comfortable regarding the millions he'll get.

Until he doesn't accept the inevitable low-ball offer. Then he's greedy, selfish, and was never a team player who just wanted money.

Except Dak is completing his contract.

Zeke has 2 years remaining on his contract.

Earnings up to this point by each player:
Dak 2M
Zeke 20.5M

I don't know ghost, I wasn't born yet so I don't know what the situation was and whether he was trying to take the team to the cleaners or if the team was truly treating him unfairly.
Zeke was not treated unfairly. he was given about a 25mil 4 year contract including a 16mil signing bonus, 3.8 mil in 1999 and over 9 mil in 2020. He became an instant multi millionaire right out of the gait. He has received all he was owed at every step of the way. The Cowboys have not slighted him in any way at any time. He's received every thing he signed for, and Jerry has defended his stupid arse through every
off field scrape.
Now Jerry has offered to pay him top 2 money and the dumbell still wants to sit. So I say if he wants to sit then let him sit.....with no pay.

Without ANY government involvement, the free market value of NFL players up to now would be drastically lower.

The NFL would be able function as 1 company and could set the salary limits that it pays to players.

The only competition with the NFL for most players would be the starting pay at Home Depot.

The NFL could set a max salary per player of 200K per year.

Eventually it would have to increase pay enough to keep another league from taking players.
- However, even the one time there was legit competition by another league, it didn't last long USFL (played 3 seasons).

Big name players would be able to make money by doing commercials, etc..

The NFL can't operate as 1 company because the anti-trust exemption would be revoked.
  • The NFL should welcome a competing league.
  • The NFL could then reorganize and function as 1 company.
  • If they had competition, then they shouldn't be considered a monopoly.
  • If the NFL is not a monopoly, then it should not need the anti-trust exemption.

Jealous???
Not at all, just really is apples to oranges when you compare Dak and Zeke and their situations and longevity. The objective of your post is really Dak such a team guy while Zeke is no good, just plain wrong.

We were told the deal would be done several months ago. Since then we've been told the deal will be done "before the draft"; "before mini camps"; "before training camp"; "before preseason games"; "as soon as the team returns from California" etc. etc.

We were told that there is zero chance that a deal will not be done before the season starts - and various posters were given a very hard time for suggesting otherwise.

Well, here we are. Week 1 is nearly upon us and no sign of a deal.

It takes two to negotiate. There is no evidence that the Cowboys are giving anything other than polite vague responses (if even this) to Dak's requests for more money.

I don't recall ever "being told" a deal with Zeke would be done months ago.
