His real leverage is hurting the team by not being on the field which he’s doing. If he wants to make it ugly he can, ask for a trade, threaten to retire, etc. etc. do I think it will go that far? Trade request maybe, retire, I highly doubt it. But I guess you could consider that all leverage

If I were Jerry, I'd give him and his agent my permission and my blessing to go out and seek a trade. Let them find out first hand that nobody would be willing to give anything to pay him what he's looking for and then lose sleep at night hoping he doesn't screw up again. Nobody.

They can come crawling back and hope that the original offer is still on the table.

Jerry Jones on @1053thefan talking about Ezekiel Elliott’s contract holdout: “If we do a new contract, what’s to assure us that this time next year or three months later, we won’t be talking about another contract? If we’re not gonna honor contracts?”

Ask Dez and Ware that.

Point taken but they still get their guaranteed money.

Hard ball would be demanding a trade etc.

I don't know that Jerry really wants to go into the season without Zeke. He's gonna lose all leverage if the Giants manage to beat us. Eli always seems to come up with ways to screw us at the worst possible moments.

Holding out is plenty hardball. And of course Jerry doesn't want to play the Giants without Zeke, but his agent isn't asking for top three money (for now), he is asking for clear best overall money. Over the course of the contract that amount of money could be the difference between signing or losing a guy like Byron Jones or Amari Cooper.

This is coming from an owner/GM, that won nothing before Zeke (post Johnson), has won nothing with him, and will win nothing in the future.

I know what the heck hes doing I've been a part of football since b4 you let go of the tit most likely. I don't need your advice. The negotiating would probably go better if he didn't have diarrhea of the mouth every time someone puts a mic in front of him. He also is going back and forth sending mixed signals and I'm on his side here

Probably based on how much alcohol hes had.

Doubt that fellow. I watched Eddie LeBaron QB this club in 1960.

Does Jerry realize how dumb he sounds. Of course we knew these stats about RBs Jerry but you wanted to take one 4th overall to hopefully help his boy crush Tony Romo get a ring. I screamed for Jalen Ramsey knowing it was the more valuable position in the long run.

Let me clear this up:

Emmitt Smith was the leading rusher 1991-1993, and 1995 and collected 3 Super Bowl Rings, Terrell Davis was the leading rusher in the AFC 1996-1998, leading rusher NFL 1998, and collected 2 Super Bowl rings in that time period. Jim Brown led the league in rushing 1957-1961, 1963-1965, played in 3 championship games, collecting 1 NFL Championship, and never had a losing season finishing 1st in the division 4 times in 9 years.

During the last 10 years only one team that won the Super Bowl did not have the leading rusher in the game and out rushed their opponents. The only time it did not happen, Pete Carroll refused to give a RB nicknamed "Beast Mode" the ball at the 1 yard line to rush for an easy TD that would have won the Super Bowl. Beast Mode rushed for 132 yards in that game.

Finally, Jason Garrett's only double digit winning seasons occurred with the leading rusher in the NFL (Demarco Murray 2014, Elliott 2016, 2018). His record without the leading rusher in the NFL is 5 games below .500.

I do not know why anyone listens to Jerry Jones.
Really good points! It’s not a run first league anymore but at some level play to your strength. Pats in the second half of season ended up winning the SB because they leaned on the run.
Saints, Ravens, both were run heavy probably the two most run heavy teams. Baltimore makes sense but just check out the New Orleans stats.

Then I highly recommend that you stop watching and following the team altogether. Why would you continue to do so?

I love it.. I want to be entertained.

Talk all you want..

I think every team should be more transparent and I think every team should have their own version of hard knocks.

The more behind the scenes stuff we get the better.
Well he is entertaining at times but for the wrong reasons IMO. Also I’m not sure we’re getting the real “behind the scenes” story.

The ultimate gamesmanship move would be for Jerry to sign a legitimate vet RB with skins on the wall that gets released in the next few days. I don’t know who the possibilities are but their are always vet RBs cut before week 1. Go get one to team with Pollard, pull the offer to Zeke, and wait for his next move. I’d be more than happy to end up trading him for a nice pick or picks and drafting another RB to pair with Pollard going forward. Use Zeke’s money to keep two other young players and be set at RB for 3-4 years at a fraction of the cost. Oh yeah, and be done with all the headaches Zeke brings.

That would be the smart thing to do. We almost never do the smart thing.

Be careful with how you take anything Jones says.

Agreed about the retiring but if he requests a trade it could really hurt the chemistry of the team and if we do let it get that far I think it would be looked back as a mistake not to trade him before it got that far. So there is some leverage he holds

i think it is the case of one side with a pistol and the other side with a loaded machine gun.

It was good to hear Jerry confirm Taco made the team again. I think he will have a great season.

i think jerry has been doing this while trying not to crush the other side.
that time should be over.

Jerry definitely seems like he's playing the long game here.

As he should. I support Zeke's right to pursue more money, but I think he's swung and missed here.

From the Cowboys' standpoint, you've either gotta be in, or you're out. I like the hard-line stance Jerry is beginning to show now on the matter.
