My prediction: 4 year extension worth 57 million (14.25 a year) 40 million guaranteed. I think this was all about guaranteed money in the end. Gurley is guaranteed 45 million. The next closest is David Johnson at 31.8. That's a huge gap. I also think Zeke takes a hair under Gurley for the APY. He still has multiple years left on his deal. You want to hold out? Fine, but you're going to take a bit less and not be a market setter.

I agree with the premise hear, but I think many here are talking about a guy with 2 years left on his contract, who was suspended, continually a distraction with off-season stupidity holding out for top dog money....
Don't get me wrong, on the field he is worth top 5 money, but it isn't far fetched in my opinion to be pissed off for him asking considering those things and the risk....
I do hope he signs so we can move on without anymore distractions
Stop with the 2 years left on the contract its a very dumb and misinforned stance. Especially when your 3 all pro lineman got deals done with 2 years left

40 mil guaranteed and Barkley gets 50 in 2 years so Zeke feels disrespected and takes another seat until he gets more money. This time he won’t care as much because he’ll already have 40 mil plus what he’s already made.

Good point. Which is why Jerry made the comment making sure this won't happen again. I wonder if a guy like OBJ will hold out once Julio signs his deal.

It's been a QUARTER CENTURY since the Cowboys were in the Super Bowl. Jerry hasn't handled the salary cap era well at all. Very poorly, in fact, up to now. Things were starting to look better, but if he pays Zeke elite money it's going to hurt the Cowboys ability to RE-SIGN their own free agents over the next few years. The team will decline a little year after year.

While it's true that no other franchise is the New England Patriots, that doesn't mean you can't learn from them and apply a lot of what they do to your own team! Overpaying players in general is something they don't do - especially at running back!

So all we need is a great QB with an ultra rich wife and the greatest coach ever. That should be easy enough.

No, actually I wouldn't do what Zeke is doing. To me, that's unethical (he's got two years left on his contract, plus what he's doing will hurt the chances of the team winning over the next few years as they will have less room under the salary cap). I want to honor my commitments, and I want to win. Actually, reverse that order - I WANT TO WIN! And honor my commitments.

NFL contracts aren't made to be honoured. By the team or the player. This isn't the real world that the rest of us have to live in.

This problem will continue to exist as long as the contracts are not guaranteed. The players argument is that the teams and owners do not honor contracts either, players are many times asked to take pay cuts or if they become injured, the team releases them. So a $20 million dollar contract is really not worth $20 million, its only worth what is guaranteed and if the guaranteed money runs out, you can be cut despite having years left on your deal.

Of the major sports leagues, the NFL is the only league where contracts are not fully guaranteed. Until this changes, you are going to have holdouts by players who feel they are not making enough guaranteed money and they dont want to end up like Allen Hurns. You break your leg in a playoff game and the team cuts you despite being under contract because you dont have any guaranteed money left on your deal.
Guarantees will not make holdouts go away. They will just morph into Anthony Davis type deals in the NBA. People are usually selfish. Caving into one demand will just move the sticks. The demands will continue on regardless.
