So, the US Men's National Team played a friendly yesterday against Mexico......and lost 3 nil. And they looked bloody awful. Its amazing to me how rubbish the US Men's National Team is at the moment. I do hope that the luck changes, but the US is going to have to completely overhaul the way it does football if they want to compete. Unfortunately, that's what cost Klinsmann his job as that's exactly what he was trying to do. I suppose he's laughing heavily right now saying, "I told you so".

All they need to do is give the US Women's World Champions a call. I'm sure they'd be happy to do some coaching.

I watched a few minutes, and i had two thoughts about it. First off it seems the US team has either very little talent and or bad coaching. Second thought more a feeling was that Pulisic may have ruined his career somewhat by choosing to play for the US.

When he first decided to play for the US i was happy thinking things would get better for the US, but they are not getting better they are getting worse. I'm not sure what the national team rules are or if he can leave to play for Croatia now but why should Pulisic stay with the US for this kind of outcome which is embarrassing atm. If he can leave the US team and did so people in the US might say he's a trader this and that, but the poor kid is going to suffer playing for the US. Talent wasted for nothing.

I think he would be allowed to do so, and he should. Team USA will kill his career.

As for Team USA, I think it's lack of talent, confidence. Basically, everything

Eh, all in all it wasn't as bad as it felt.
That was a very, very young US team and it was a very competitive game before subs came on.
Mexico trotted out Guardado and Chicarrito.
The US started an 18 year old and averaged only 24 years.

Mexico also happens to be really good.

Pulisic isn't going anywhere nor would he want to. He's played for the US internationally his entire career and his best friend is on the team.
His career is alive and well at Chelsea.

But the US definitely needs to get better and healthier. Brooks was a huge absence on a very young back line.

I thought for much of the first half the US looked like the better side.

I am glad they are going with a youth movement, to build for the future.

Going to be some growing pains, but better than trotting out the same overmatched guys every year.

They need to blow it up and start from scratch.

Berhalter and Earnie Stewart were terrible hires. Rid yourself of the Zardes, Altidore, Bradley’s.

The entire “play it back” just doesn’t work. There is never any cohesiveness amongst the defenders. Sloppy passing, sloppy defending. You leave Chicarito unmarked in the box??? Let alone he’s unmarked but nobody is around him.

We have talented players ... individually. But until we learn to find the best players, we will continue to stay mediocre. Enough with these academy boys ... find the best talent.

All of the best athletes here go for football, baseball or basketball. It’s just the way it is. Until that changes, US Soccer is just going to be Meh.

Exactly, and the MLS needs to be revamped to be similar to Europe and not Americanized.

I believe soccer players aren't allowed by FIFA to play for more than one nation over the course of their career, unless extraordinary circumstances apply (for instance, losing your citizenship because of circumstances out of your control.)

Ah, fair point. Though, I thought some players have done that before they turned 21.

I don't know if that rule applies to young guys under 21 - perhaps not, because they may need more time to figure things out and what's best for them.

But with the older guys, I think the idea is to prevent "international free agency." Otherwise, a rich nation could try to assemble a soccer Dream Team by dangling many millions or even billions of dollars in front of guys like Messi, Ronaldo, Neuer, Modric, Neymar, Mbappe, etc. It would be ugly for the sport.

Yes, and I think Pulsic is under 21, isn't he?

Its Pulisic and a bunch of JAGs. We can't play out of the back. No ability in the midfield. We had a few chances but without Pulisic, the team is pure garbage.

Correct. Can't change nations. We just lost a kid who grew up in jersey to the Mexican national team. I don't blame him.

Football/Soccer doesn't need athletes. It needs skilled and technical players. This is something the rest of the world has and the US does not. Well the US does have them, they just decide not to play them or they are injured. Trapp and Zardes should be dismissed from the senior team. The US could likely lose Dest and your problems at LB will once again come to ahead. Berhalter's choices of players and his formations leaves little to be desired. In fact, he is a mediocre coach to begin with. They are lucky CONCACAF made it easier for them to qualifications otherwise they would not in the World Cup again in 2022.

The entire system from development here in the US to the coaching needs to be revamped. It all goes back to the federation and soccer united marketing.
