Everyone has it wrong about Garrett

Fortunately we needed a walk around GM. The better personnel decisions begin in 2011 when Garrett took over.

Unfortunately coaching isn’t a priority of our ownership with his meddling ways and personal agendas looking for credit of his own being a Football Guy which leaves our options fairly limited with HC prospects like Wade, Campo and Gailey unless Jerry hits rock bottom or needs a new stadium.

Jerry tried winning championships with a legit HC but didn’t appreciate an ego bigger than his.

Garrett is beyond awful and his offensive philosophy has held back the team for a decade.

We've never been as good as we can be because of him.

I don't give the Head Coach much credit for Player evaluation. McClay is the man right now. Nobody cares what Garrett thinks.. Just sit in the corner and clap.

That's where his ability is best suited, though: evaluating players.

I’ll just take this opportunity to remind you all that not everybody was wrong about Garrett. And to say that I do love reading the complex chains of rationalization about how this team somehow got to be good DESPITE its head coach and chief architect being, to paraphrase, terrible somehow.

Is this the list? I’ll stick with the last ten years just to keep it simple. Belichick is a no brainer. Tomlinson has been solid. Coughlin has those two super bowls and a lot of nothing else. Carroll has been good. Reid if you like a lot of winning without playoff success could be good. I guess I don’t see a lot, if any, coaches that make Garrett look horrible. Add in the recent success guys and you have 7-8 coaches who were arguably better than Garrett and one who clearly was.
They all got to the SB and Garrett has not.

Either include all HCs since Garrett became one or don't discount guys like Coughlin and Carroll.

Not that many coaches get 8 years without getting to a championship game. There might be a lot more coaches that would have had success if given those amount of time. Guys like Josh McDaniel might have been good if given enough years to make mistakes and learn from them.

Who else is going to put up with Jerry’s BS while helping lead us in a better direction?

You have to accept the handicaps, hindrances and obstacles Jerry’s “ socks to jocks” ownership presents before you can begin to appreciate the influence Garrett has contributed to Cowboys Football.

Yeah I should’ve made the title “Many were wrong about Garrett”. Feel free to change it.

I don’t discount Carroll; Coughlin a little because other than two 9-7 Super Bowl runs he didn’t have consistency. However, it is hard to argue against winning two Super Bowls, especially with Eli Manning at QB.

Maybe guys like McDaniel could have been good if given more rope but Garret didn’t exactly do anything stunningly bad like draft Tebow in the first round to get himself fired.

I guess my point is there have been far more stunning failures at HC during Garrett’s time than stunning successes that make Garrett look horrible.

There’s really no need to target a segment of the fans here simply because they can’t appreciate or see the contributions Garrett has made this era to Cowboys Football.

It can be presented in a more professional manner.

imagine working for JJ - 1 losing season in 9 is rather impressive - assuming anyone could do better is kinda ignorant of reality

LOL...…….So you are counting 3 consecutive 8-8 seasons as something to brag about? Nice play on words, but that doesn't work with knowledgeable fans.

Garrett has failed miserably on the offensive side of the ball from where he was projected to be. He fell woefully short of the "offensive genius" he was pumped up to be.

Its also a fact that he is a horrible in game manager/adjuster/game planning coach.

After those two huge failures, Im simply not sure anything else matters.

The less responsibility and the further away from the offense that Jones has taken from Garrett, the better this team seems to get. Less Garrett appears to make this team better. Proof is in the pudding.

Garrett didn't get the chance to draft Tebow. Garrett does not make personnel decisions. If he did he would have outbid ESPN for Witten last year.

Garrett was an OC turned HC that was forced to vacate the OC duties.

hmmm was going to write something, but no point getting angry about the past.

I wouldn't resign Garrett if he doesn't go far in the playoffs this year though.

I’m not really interested in getting personal with detractors of Garrett.
I just said they were wrong. I don’t get where you’re coming from or what your point is. I didn’t get personal with anyone in my OP.

Contributions from Garrett? He's certainly contributed to 12 or 13 of the past 25 non-super bowl seasons. He was primarily responsible for a couple of them too.

Wow, he's one awesome coach........

He had the chance for Manziel, though. I’m not sure what his personnel decisions include, fair enough, so I will leave them out.

In the end, I am not saying I am enamored with Garrett as a head coach but there has been a slew of head coaches who have been much worse than him and a select few that have been markedly better.
