Well once we have his rights it really doesn't matter what he wants and knowing what kind of guy he is I think it would be easy to convince him to play safety.

I disagree he isn't a need. I don't think any team is going to trade for him to play corner unless it's situational.

Also, we have a lot of expiring contracts foro our DB's and this is a premium talent at DB that has 3 or 4 years left on that rookie deal.

It certainly does matter if he's playing at a position he doesn't want.

He'd be in the same fit of despair that he's in with Miami.

Making him a prisoner of this team wouldn't do either him nor us any favors.

Interesting. Not that familiar with him, kind of a Byron Jones CB/S hybrid player? Geez, was the pick #11 in the 1st out of Bama.
me either. until the politics get out of the NFL i just don't pay widespread attention to it. that unfortunately means i don't keep up with other players / teams as much. from what i understand, there's a general positive tone about the player - so who knows.

They are absolutely going to get a #1 for Minkah.

We'll see

Maybe Philly or New Orleans will offer that. Dallas won't offer that and I don't think any team that believes they'll be picking 20 or lower would even think about it.

Also, if he is not going to play safety I don't see a team giving up a 1 for a Slot corner. That is ridiculous. So that is something else you would have to figure out.

My vision for this is an Earl Thomas type that can be used for different matchups in man coverage if need be.

Maybe.. I just think a guy like him who is stuck on the worst team in football wouldn't come to the Cowboys kicking and screaming if they told him they view him as more of a safety with some position flex as a slot corner in certain situations.

Sorry, but I think Woods is much better than you're giving him credit for. So does the Cowboys staff, apparently.

Woods isn't good. He's a JAG........ familiar and overrated by the cowboy fan base. He's not a top 30 safety in this league. Minkah has pro bowl upside which is something we haven't seen in Dallas at safety in well over a decade.

does that mean that we will be moving on from Byron Jones. right now we are 4 deep at CB, but need safety help

We can't pay everybody. Byron is looking at big money. Lewis and chido only have 1 year left.........and theres a good chance Minkah will be better than all of them.

He's good enough that the FO and the team admires his play and has stated as much on many occasions. Let's also consider that he's young yet and will likely improve, given more time and experience. Minkah isn't as good as a safety as Woods is right now. He's doesn't even want to play there. People that aren't happy in their situation don't demand to be traded by the team they're already playing for. Simple logic.

He's a talent that we don't really have a need for at this time.

Tunnel vision on this year. I'm thinking about the long term and this is a great opportunity at a slot CB to replace/upgrade Brown who will net a comp pick and it saves cap space.

Do you expect them to call him a JAG in public? He's cheap and that may be his best attribute at the moment.
The Dolphins have moved Minkah around to 6 different positions. You put him at any one spot and let him focus, he will excel. All the athletic ability in the world and he's smart........one of the smartest players Saban has ever coached.

If you're really thinking about the long term, you might want to consider keeping Donovan Wilson long enough to see what he can do. He's already shown great promise at this time. Developing him enough to see what he has to offer wouldn't be such a bad idea, either. Let's see what the FO is intent upon doing. We're not the ones who will be making their decisions for them anyway. Arguing about something we have no control over is a waste of time and energy.

Yeah, let's force him to play where he doesn't want to play and see where that gets us. Smart thinking! The FO will decide what to do in any event -- not some fan on a website.

After last Sunday, half of Miami requested a trade, that wasn't because they were all unhappy about where they line up. No one wants to play for a team that doesn't want to win.

No issue with keep Wilson. I want him at slot CB:
