Was Dak Reading the Defense vs. Giants w/o Moore?

In one of Voch's videos he stated that with pre motion and hard counts to get guys jumping, Dak was able to read the defense before the snap, despite whatever disguise they tried to do. I think that's noteworthy because I thought the plan was to have Moore in his ear to help him read the defense like the Rams do, but I'm pretty sure the Rams, after motioning, look to the sidelines like they do in college for the play. I don't remember seeing any of that on Sunday.

Did anyone hear officially whether or not Moore used the headset to tell Dak what the defense was or did Dak figure them out on his own?

This. Also, it’s really difficult for more to do from the sideline. If he was going to identify defenses, he’d have to do it from the booth upstairs.

But give Moore the assist. Lots of film breakdowns this week from various journalists, particularly Bob Sturm, where you can see how he uses motion to make it easy for Dak.

That was just fan speculation that Moore was going to do that. The team never said they would.

I didnt hear about that.

Moore gives Dak 1 read throws. And the OL gives him enough time to protect his weaknesses.

Lets wait for some more games where Dak is under preassure. NYFG wasnt a real test for him.

TBH this is why I brought it up. Dak seemed to know what the defense was on every play and who he needed to get the ball to. If he's this much better at reading defenses then his success should be reproducible. I don't mean that there will always be guys running wide open like Jarwin and Cobb were but Cooper's td and most of the throws to Gallup.

TBH this is why I brought it up. Dak seemed to know what the defense was on every play and who he needed to get the ball to. If he's this much better at reading defenses then his success should be reproducible. I don't mean that there will always be guys running wide open like Jarwin and Cobb were but Cooper's td and most of the throws to Gallup.

It's easier now for Dak to read the defense given the proper tools to do so. The pre-snap shifts, motions and as stated dispersed hard counts gives a much better read than the old..."you do a curl...you do an out....you do a comeback...with little motion or shifts..Dak would try to figure the coverage and guess who might beat their man.

Moore's scheme exposed the defense and pre-snap Dak had a better sense of the coverage and which routes would break free. It was so refreshing to actually see receivers so wide open like the Cobb, Jarwin and Witten TDs. On the other, you also can't deny that Dak is still improving. Chris Simms pointed out the new throwing motion and it's obvious Dak's footwork is better.

Did I mention the Oline is finally back together with the return of the bearded one and the threat of #21 kept the defense from selling out on the pass.

The stars aligned for sure. Does it mean we'll look this good every game? No, but the fact we can do it is a wake up to the rest of the league.

What would be really cool is if next week, Zeke, Pollard and company run for 250+ yards and 4 TDs. Dak is 15-18 for 210 yards, 1 TD and 0 int. We just bludgeon the skins with an unstoppable running game.

Sure looks like our predictability is gone.

The pre motion and having Fredbeard back helps him. But in his 4th year he is reading them better. But that motion is what helps, the defenses show there hand. We will see defenses starting this weekend will try different things to fool us.

An OC may be in his ear early in the play telling him what to look for, but ultimately a QB has to make an instant decision. Goff too. Once he sees a defense move on motion or a hard count he doesn’t have time for the OC to interpret it for him.

You cannot be even an average NFL QB and not be able to fundamentally read defenses. Obviously, some are better at it than others. There’s no such thing as an NFL QB who has any level of success who cannot read basic coverages.

Sure they get help from the sideline but as has been pointed out on this thread earlier, the helmet/headset is turned off when the QB breaks the huddle. Dak is very capable at reading what defenses are trying to do. Many QBs throw pics when they don’t recognize coverages or blitz packages. Dak’s low turnover numbers reflect that he’s pretty good at reading defenses.
