Hand times have always been faster than electronic times...

Here's some google to add to your google.....from Bob Hayes Wiki.....

In some of the first meets to be timed with experimental fully automatic timing, Hayes was the first man to break ten seconds for the 100 meters, albeit with a 5.3 m/s wind assistance in the semi-finals of the 1964 Olympics. His time was recorded at 9.91 seconds. Jim Hines officially broke 10 seconds at the high altitude of Mexico City, Mexico in 1968 (and on a synthetic track) with a wind legal 9.95 which stood as the world record for almost 15 years. The next to surpass Hayes at a low altitude Olympics was Carl Lewis in 1984 when he won in 9.99, some 20 years later (though Hasely Crawford equaled the time in 1976).[6]

Until the Tokyo Olympics, world records were measured by officials with stopwatches, measured to the nearest tenth of a second. Although fully automatic timing was used in Tokyo, the times were given the appearance of manual timing. This was done by subtracting 0.05 seconds from the automatic time and rounding to the nearest tenth of a second, making Hayes' time of 10.06 seconds convert to 10.0 seconds, despite the fact that the officials with stopwatches had measured Hayes' time to be 9.9 seconds,[7] and the average difference between manual and automatic times was typically 0.15 to 0.20 seconds. This unique method of determining the official time therefore denied Hayes the record of being the first to officially record 9.9 seconds for the 100 meters. The first official times of 9.9 seconds were recorded at the "Night of Speed" in 1968.

Below I'll link to the greatest *demonstration* of speed in NFL history. He scored the fastest touchdown. 3 seconds into the game. 14:57 into the first quarter and he had a touchdown. How is that possible?

Watch the video. Watch the clock. Its still at 15:00 as he crosses the 25 yard line...

Kind of helps that almost half of his TD return was with a non-moving clock.

Yup. Randall took Eagles trickery opening kickoff...to the house. 3 seconds of game clock time.

No, in truth it wasn't a great demonstration of Randal Williams speed. But there were urban legends that Randal W ran a 4.1.

No one will believe that--I sure don't. But no one will EVER be able say they scored a TD 3 seconds into a game. That will never, ever, ever, ever be matched.

You might want to mention that the "opening kickoff" was a botched onside kick and Randall returned it 37 yards for a TD. Fastest TD in NFL history due to circumstance as much as speed.

I was there and I lost my voice on the very first play of the game.

No way to ever know the answer on fastest Cowboys player on the field but I would put money on Deion.

The Raiders once tried throwing deep against Deion to some of their ex olympic sprinters turned WR and it was not even close. It looked like Deion was back waiting for a punt because he was so far past them.

Alexander Wright was extremely fast in a straight line. He ran a 4.14 forty.

There was a guy in camp one year that Garrett's Dad said was the best athlete that he had ever seen. Jim Garrett claimed he timed him at 4.0 in the forty.

Teddy Williams ran a 9.90 100 meters. I think his forty was low 4.2x.

Tavon Austin in college was as fast as anybody I've seen on the field just from a visual perspective. He has some of the all time best college highlights.
Yet the ONLY one to actually prove he was the fastest man in the world, not just football, is Bob Hayes. So, all the urban legends aside, I will take bullet Bob all day and twice on Sunday.

I would go with Deion as well. He was as fast as he needed to be. Never ever saw anyone catch him or pull away from him. Bob Hayes would obviously be the competition in my mind. Wright and Williams were fast. Joey Galloway before he came to Dallas was one of the fastest I ever saw. Herschel for his size was mind blowing.

Deion Sanders is the fastest athlete I've ever seen. There might be better 40s out there or whatever, but nobody has ever come close to replicating his play speed except maybe Randy Moss.

not even bo jackson ?

Herschel Walker damn near ran with Darrell Green in the fastest man competition

nah .." near" doesn't cut it ... and Deion didn't want any of that Darrell Green - that's why he never competed in NFL Fastest Man contest. (which Green regularly competed...and regularly won. :p

Didn’t Deon run a 4.2 40 at FSU?
Most impressive 40 to me was 6’6” 250lb Arkansas QB Matt Jones running a 4.34 at the combine. Now that was a fast whiteboy!

3/4 of the great speed stories have "embellishments" of one kind or another. Bo Jackson claims he ran sub 4.1. Deion has this elaborate story of walking into the combine, not even stretching and running the fastest time ever....etc.

One thing we can say for a fact. Randall Williams scored and the official game clock was 14:57 1st quarter.
