I am curious where all these plays where Smith can’t cover are coming from.

He got beat for a TD last week but LVE got beat week one.

Our scheme has our LBs drifting deep into coverage so is Smith getting criticized for poor coverage when a TB catches a 5 yard pass over the middle and Smith (or frankly any of our LBs) are playing deeper zones?

Better DL play will make everyone in the LB/DB look better.

If we got home more with pressure it helps the entire back end...

Realistically if given time your going to find someone at least 3/4 of the time....

Sacks and TFLs are down and we need to pick it up

They haven't been bad, but they haven't been great. I've noticed Jaylon more than LVE so far. The strip fumble was a nice play. Hopefully just a slow start for them
What strip fumble? You're not talking about whrn Drake fumbled when he bumped into his lineman, are you?

They whole defense plays soft. I think part of it by design, keep them in front of you.
This EXACTLY!!
While I appreciate the “concept” you can’t run Prevent the whole game!
Kellen Moore has added stunts to the offense, so maybe Garrett is forcing Richard to call Vanilla defense to balance it out! ;)

Seriously though... bring the blitz, create some pressure!!

Where my HotBoyz at!?

Didn't look like it the 4 or 5 times I saw the replay. Looked like Jaylon was completely clear and the OL knocked it loose.

He got juked and when he reached out he pulled the hand of Drake.

I felt the extension was rushed. Almost just for the storyline. Look how far he's come. Feelz.

He's not fully back from the injury and he never will be. He's a very straightline-ish player anymore and that certainly was not him at Notre Dame.

As for Vander Sloot, I don't know. Maybe the guilt over what he did to Natalee Holloway on that beach has finally started to affect his subconscious. Or maybe he wants to stink up the joint so his creepy Partridge Family will stop coming to the games.

our prolific offense is changing the way our defensive alignments and schemes are called. we're keeping receivers in front of us and just rushing with 4 linemen. we are challenging other teams to beat us as teams were doing to us before dak got on his hot streak. i'm not concerned.
Exactly. It comes across conservative and fans hate the "bend-don't-break" approach, but when the offense is schooling teams, it keeps points off the boards. Notice how the "sky is falling" crowd brings up nothing but yards allowed?

I said the rams game in the playoffs was a concern, nothing has changed. They better figure it out fast. LVE can make plays when the gap is there, Smith plays light on his feet like he's always avoiding impact while planted.

LVE was incredible last year. He hasn’t gotten back to that level yet.

Jaylon is not sniffing his level of play from last year either. I almost wonder if his drop toe is back.

I didn't wanna go there but damn, have to admit I was thinking the same thing.

Jaylon has looked fine to me.

Last season, through the first three games, he had 22 tackles. He has 27 so far this year.

Jaylon is over-running plays again and LVE is a bit hesitant.
And the DL aren't doing them many favors.
yea, it was getting sad to watch replays of our guys on D sliding to the turn after getting juked.

for all the good our offense is doing, our defense is going to let us down is my "fear" i suppose.
