Should Dallas just go ahead and tank?

This may be a hot take, but I'm being dead serious. Look at the way we have played against real contending teams. If we even do sniff the playoffs, who's to say we won't slip up and shoot ourselves in the foot again? This Dallas team has already been exposed through the defense (Teams that actually scheme, aka Playoff teams, know that all they have to do is run their RB through the middle or around our line). Playoff teams will pick us apart in the matter of seconds. Garrett will not scheme or game plan for any of these games. So what would be the point of it all? To go to the playoffs just to get blown out and exposed for the 20 gabillionth year in a row that we can't even make it to the NFC Championship with talented rosters throughout the years? Why get such a low first pick knowing darn well this team isn't capable of a Super Bowl? Why not just tank? JG will get fired and we get a higher draft pick. It's a win win situation. Thoughts?

If you feel this way I think the move is just for the fan base to stop caring.

I'm in that mode right now. So what if we beat the Jets, ya know?

They hurt their long term chances a lot the last couple of weeks and that is all I really care about anyways is post season success.

Maybe i'll get hyped again for Eagles or the Pats game but right now I feel like i'm just getting another year of Garrett football and it's just not worth my time and energy on Sundays.

They're still 3-2 and tied for first place in the division.

Much too soon to be having any thoughts like this I think.

The take isn't hot. It's just stupid.
So you think it's stupid for a barely above average team to try and go up against half the NFC that is better than them, just to get a (possible) 20th+ draft pick and for Garrett to stay on the Cowboys?

The way that I look at it, if the team was to "tank" it would be for a particular player in the draft. There are a ton of layers to that.

Is this one particular player going to get us to the Super Bowl next year? Are we a complete enough team to bank on one singular player getting us there? Or even a few, assuming we hit on our 2nd and 3rd rounder. Are there 3 players, possibly available in the 3 rounds, that could get us there?

What benefit does it suit the team, to go either way? 8-8 can put you in a bad spot during the draft, but being top 5 could as well. What if we bank on getting a player, for example a QB, with a hypothetical 5th overall pick. What if a team more desperate, trades ahead of us and nabs the QB..then what? We bank on an all world D-line player, or CB to be there worthy of the 5th overall? Bank on another team sending us more capital in return for our 5th?

I've never understood tanking, quite frankly I don't believe it's actually a thing save for the '19 Dolphins. It seems way too high of a risk for am even higher of a risk for the reward. At the same time, what does going one and done in the playoffs get us? What does finishing middle of the pack get us?

Let's revisit this threat in 5 weeks. And the Cowboys don't tank. We learned that two years ago when they fought to win a meaningless last game of the season which cost them about 5 spots in the first round of the draft.

If we get to the point where we are talking about tanking, then first fire JG. Then we can go from there.

How do you even tank in the NFL?

Are you suggesting we trade away good players? So basically trade away some guys like Martin or Smith or Cooper or Elliott or Dak or Gallup?

The talent on this team is good enough even with mediocre coaching to probably win 6-7 games, easily. So in order to tank, you have to get rid of that talent. You going to bench guys? Or trade them?

This, here, is perfect for what I am trying to say. With JG, this team will never make it to the Super Bowl. It saddens me to say it, but it's true. Super Bowl teams scheme and plan for games. Their coaches are competent and they discipline the team when they decide to play like garbage. In addition to that (minus the Patriots), most teams that go far have a contagious amount of positive energy on their sidelines. This Dallas team is the opposite. Dallas does not have that positive energy either, for some reason that many can't figure out. Being middle of the pack and losing in the divisional/wildcard game will have us right back where we start every season. Why not just go for the risk of tanking along with the benefit of JG getting fired? The reward of tanking is higher than the reward of going to the playoffs and making the Super Bowl and ultimately keeping Garrett (An honest 80% guarantee of reward for tanking (better draft pick, JG gone) vs. a less than 1% chance of the reward of going to the Super Bowl and keeping Garrett)

No.

First thing you try to do is get out of this slump.

If that doesn't work very soon, you then start to seriously consider letting the HC go, but you need to have ideas ready to be put into place if you decide to go that route. You don't just fire the HC without half a clue about what your going to do next.

Losing time and or just throwing time away is not a good idea.

Tanking might be ok when you are 2-12 and you want the 1st pick and you need to finish 2-14 to get it.

Why though?

Adding one top-5 draft pick isn't going to take us to the Super Bowl next year
