Whats it going to take for Rod to get fired?

Right now, Rod is responsible for the DL and Richard is responsible for the passing game "D" and the secondary, or so it seems!

You can tell who is in charge by the defense they are playing.

Legion of Boom doesn’t play BBDB. So you can rule out KR.

Marinelli does. Has from day 1 back in 2014. (2013 if you count Monti)

It’s simple as that.

Wrong -- Kris Richard is in full charge of the passing defense and the secondary. He has full autonomy to change it if he so desires. Marinelli is responsible for the D-line, specifically. There's a reason why Seattle chose to relieve him of his job. Perhaps we're just beginning to see why.

Dallas is employing an oddball setup, whereby Marinelli still has the title of DC. Despite that, Marinelli has turned over the defensive play calling over to Kris Richard. That includes the entire defense on game day and Marinelli says he's fine with that. Supposedly, Marinelli has control of the defensive line during the week in practice, even though Kris Richard calls the defensive play calls for the entire defense. A bit confusing, isn't it? I think so, too! Richard's official title at present is "passing game coordinator."

Anyhow, Rod has turned over the play calling to Kris Richard by way of his agreement to do so. To me, it's obvious that Richard is being phased in as the DC, even though Marinelli gets to retain the title until such time as he retires. It's truly an oddball setup that allows Richard to gradually assume the duties of a true DC, while Marinelli sits in the background as the coordinator of the DL during the week in practice. As odd as this may sound, that's what's happening currently in Frisco. Call it on-the-job training for Kris Richard to take full control, if it suits you. Granted, it's a bit "different." ;)

This is not all true. I do think KR will be the next DC. His reputation is outstanding.

You obviously never worked somewhere with a chain of command.

Don’t mistake relaying plays to JSmith as the same thing as calling the shots as DC.

I do not tell my boss what to do.

Take a look at KRs play sheet. Then Marinellis.

Why is Rod even carrying a play sheet on game day? Why even wear the headset?

The play calling situation is one of the biggest excuses used to justify Rods continued existence as DC.

It’s not Rods fault! He doesn’t even call the plays.

Trust me. He knows exactly what’s being called.

4-2-5 off man/press cover/man

Rinse and repeat.

Yep.

Just like the delicate treatment his buddy Monte Kiffin got.

Heck, this team still can't admit that they fired Scott Linehan!

You know it's funny bc when Monte Kiffin created the Tampa 2 from the Cover 2 one of his 4 main strategies was attacking and forcing turnovers, which would mean even risking the big play sometimes in order to try to make a big play. It's like this defense runs the Tampa 2 but doesn't try to force turnovers at all.

He won a super bowl with them.

Ever hear of the Legion of Boom?

I’m guessing you should probably be hoping for Marinelli to have a heart attack or something like that, because, short of that, he is a legend based on something besides job performance since he has worked for the Cowboys.

I thought for sure the Rams disaster would do it. He should have been fired.

How bad do you have to screw up your job?!?

273 yds rushing.

That was a term for the Seattle defense, which was the one that KR was terminated with. What he did for Seattle doesn't equate with what he's doing for Dallas. You have no idea what's going on with Dallas. I stated the facts about his situation with Dallas just as they are. He didn't win the Super Bowl; it was the team that did and he wasn't the HC, so don't equate one team with the other. That's absurd. I was in the service for many years, so I do understand what the chain of command is about -- poor assumption on your part.

As to whether KR is the next DC, it''s quite possible, as I stated and you ignored. My definition of what is happening with the Cowboys is accurate by way of what Marinelli revealed himself and the Dallas FO concurred with as well.

I don’t see his leaving the SHawks as a problem.

his resume with them is impressive. Anyone can google it. It’s why he’s in Dallas.

We want to see him develop a Legion of Boom In Dallas.

that’s tough to do with Marinelli running his BBDB scheme.

BBDB is designed to give up yards and FGs, not TDS.

Not an aggressive D. It works best when the DL can put pressure on the QB. But DLaw, TCraw, and RGreg we’re responsible for most of the pressure last season.

we don’t have that this season.

it’s been frustrating to watch.

also, the run D is still busted. I think the 4-2-5 scheme doesn’t help, along with the 1 gap Marinelli uses.

something has to give.

From a schematic standpoint, Jerry is inherently conservative. So is Rod. It’s a match made in hell.
