Where did Booger say he was intrigued? That web site is schlock.

There are only a handful of cherry jobs in college ball that are birds nests on the ground and OU is one of them. OU will pay him more than Booger would pay him so it's not about the money.

But for the purpose of this thread, say you get him, now what is Booger going to do about the staff? OU doesn't play D, they outscore opponents in a weak conference.

What is there about the hiring of coaches since Johnson left and he had to hire Parcells to get the stadium that would lead you to believe the Joneses could build Riley a staff? The NFL isn't like what he's used to with wide open offense able to get to the playoffs, have to play D in the NFL and good D, NE good. That's why he can't get a ring in college, they play D in the Big 10 and SEC.
Riley is the 4th highest paid coach in his conference. 3.2 million, I think. Garrett gets about 6 million yearly. The money won't be an issue. He's produced 2 Heisman winners back to back. Who wouldn't be interested in this guy?

Does Riley pick his own staff or do the Jonses tell him who he can hire? How much say would he get in regards to personnel?

I would guess that if Riley were to come here he would want to pick his own staff and I can’t see him keeping an OC that doesn’t know his system. I doubt Moore would be here if clappers gets fired.
No coach picks their own staff anymore in a Jerry Jones owned team.......if that's a huge deal to Lincoln then he likely won't be coming here.

OU just extended him. 5 years at $6 mill with annual increases plus other incentives. $4.5 mill buyout.

He just got extended for 6M per and OU will go higher. UT was chasing Saban with a Gruden offer 10M x 10 years. Saban makes Belichick money already.

Here's the challenge in hiring Riley. He's an offensive coach just like McVay and Shanahan and how is McVay's team doing with a very good DC? SF started building their D and really hasn't stopped since the Walsh years. Harbaugh took them to the Big Dance because of that D. If McVay's O struggles, he's done because the D's not there as it was last season, which is why they game up the farm for Ramsey.

For those that do not follow college ball, the imbalance of quality O and D players is skewed to the O side and it is difficult for teams to build and keep good D's unless they're a D recruiting revolving door like OSU, WIS, Bama and a couple of others.

I do not doubt Riley could help the O but could he help the team? He would need the best DC money can buy, that sound like the Joneses to you? Or are they the type to think 'job done, got a HC'? Riley's not a HC, he's an OC/QBC combo, a very good one but that's all he is.

The last thing the Cowboys need is an O coach feeding the follow the ball mind of the owner. They need a D minded HC and a good OC. The Cowboys have had 3 good HC's, what were their backgrounds? And Belichick's? The Cowboys need to hire the best DC in the NFL as their HC, a guy that's been around the league enough to know the coaches well, not a college coach that has no knowledge. I, of course, am dreaming because the Joneses are going to force coaches on the HC just as they have this one.

And that’s why we get turds to coach. No way a coach of Riley’s stature comes here if he can’t bring his own guys. May as well continue with clappers then if we can’t get an actual good coach.

Less than Garrett. The Joneses do not want a guy to run his own show, they want a guy to do what they tell him to do and not make waves.

Get ready for it should they make the change. All of those years of Garrett trying to work on Booger to get him to change from the sexy picks to the foundation and stop thinking triplets is going to start over.

Know what I think? I think in a very short time those that were ecstatic over getting Garrett's ticket punched are not going to be so happy because they didn't appreciate the value of Garrett. He's not a sideline coach, not a tactician but what he is to that FO is a voice of reason about personnel and building a team. He's a Booger influencer and when he's gone, there will be one less if he hires Riley. Booger is not listening to some ex college coach new to the NFL unless it's about the one thing he hired him for, the offense.

What makes us think Riley would be interested in the Cowboys.

Let’s assume he’s interested in NFL. Why come here with Jerry’s mess?

Look what he did with Baker.

Look what he did with Kyler.

Look at the magic he's doing with Hurts.

Can he do that with Dak?

4th thread on this in last week
Lose Sunday and there will be double that.

I think if some of Riley's Rangers watched a little more Big 12 ball, especially those defenses, they might not be so hot for him. There aren't a lot of Texas Tech D's in the NFL. What didn't they learn from the Chip Kelly experiment?

If he's making top head coach money, he has power.

Riley wouldn't have to acquiesce out of gratefulness.

And Jerry's running out of time.

Yep, that's why we have Jason Garrett instead of a real coach.
