I grow more and more frustrated with Rod Marinelli

Eh rod doesnt have final say on roster moves, blame the guy who does. If an employee gives me input pn a Tough decision I'll listen, but the final decision falls on my shoulders, not theirs.

If anything hate on rod for the vanilla defenses hes been running out most games. I'm hopeful from the eagles game were going to see a different identity on defense, but time will tell.

So would mine. But any suggestion that the team should have even considered releasing Crawford (or at least forcing a huge paycut) were met with incredulousness and often-times derision at the 'suggestion'. Who was right and who was wrong? The people that kept him around at $10 million given the offseason issues and injuries look like bumbling buffoons. And they deserve to.

You can look it up. Their best performances this season have come without Crawford. But even now, they'll connect the Bennett acquisition with somehow need to 'replace Crawford'. They still don't get it. Marinelli most of all.
Crawford to me is a nice player to have on a weak line. Or at least one that doesnt have alot of talent. There are alot of places you can play him where he is at least passable. However once we actually collected some players, there wasnt much use for him. IMO he should have been cut and Taco should have taken the run down snaps at RDE

Once great coach who stayed past his prime. Hasn't been good in a while. People just respect what he used to be,

Needs to hang it up after this year, whether or not Garrett stays.

Jerry just likes him because his name gives credibility to Jerry's hand-picked staff.

After reflecting on yesterday's Jamal Adams trade deadline scramble, several things occurred to me.
  1. The idea that the Cowboys were willing to give up next year's 1st rounder as well as a 4th or 5th rounder for a safety represents a huge shift in prior thinking going back to the draft, when they passed on Juan Thornhill for everyone's favorite gameday inactive, Trysten Hill.
  2. Tyrone Crawford - after a poor start - is now on IR, along with the $10 million that the decision to keep him cost this team. His Cowboys career and NFL career entirely, likely over. And yet we heard and continue to hear how "valuable" and irreplaceable the guy was? Meanwhile, the defensive line continues to perform better when the guy isn't on the field?
  3. Taco Charlton. Exactly how many 2017 1st round picks have been released to this point without suspensions or injury being the reason? And again, who was it that overruled the scouts on draft day to draft Taco over TJ Watt.
With every one of these moves, and counter-moves needed as a result, I grow more and more frustrated with Rod Marinelli. I connect every one of this team's biggest faults, failings, and issues directly to decisions he was instrumental in making. And those are just the 'big three". We can also look at all of the disappointments that have come and go during his time here as well, like Cedric Thornton, Stephen Paea, Henry Melton, and plenty more.

I've simply had it with the guy and he's gone from being a top defensive line coach to a serious liability for this organization. They need to stop looking at the distant past and look at what this guy is doing now, and has done over the past several years here. Don't tell me about "Tampa and Chicago", tell me about "Dallas", that's the team I care about.

Like his mentor Monte Kiffin before him, this guy needs to go.
#GROM!

“They just kind of did what they do. They do it every single week." - Sam Darnold talking about Dallas' defense (checkers)

"I'm seeing ghosts." - Sam Darnold a week later talking about the Patriots' defense (chess)

Yesterday's pursuit of Adams was the icing on the cake. I'd fire Rod today. He's not the key to winning anything of significance.

More excellent points!

What the NFL said about Tyrone Crawford:

"Good versatility and leadership, definitely overpaid"

What CBZ posters said about Tyrone Crawford:

iu

Here's what one "CBZ poster" in particular had to say:

Agree and a trade wouldn't surprise me, but the position flex to be an average starter at any of the four DL positions has a lot of value. A Super Sub role for a guy who is a team leader justifies his spot on the roster for sure.

Agree, after trying so hard to secure the services of the Jets S, it shows they made a colosso mistake in not taking J. Thornhill over Hill. Now that the rooster has come home too roost.

Was he really a great coach or the beneficiary of great talent?

Marinelli's name is more about the man and the respect people have for him rather than his coaching acumen. He's not the first coach to get his rep from his players, Lovie Smith, Buddy Ryan, Marvin Lewis and the latest, Dan Quinn.

He's brutal isn't he lol.
Definitely the Niner’s. I wish nothing but thee worst on that franchise since Clark. I have to turn the channel whenever that GD catch is about to be shown.

Hope I get the chance to punch him in the face in Heaven then have a beer with him.

I was thinking yesterday, they really seemed to want a Safety in the draft last year. They had some guys they seemed to really like fall to them in the 2nd, and passed for Marinelli's guy. And now they are pretty hot on getting a Safety. I wonder if that killed any credibility Marinelli had left

Honestly I think he " retires" after the season

Yeah, just like Kiffin did. I believe the term is "put out to pasture." Like Linehan's firing, they'll put a spin on Marinelli's termination too. Can't have 'hurt feelings' around here.

Meanwhile, the Super Bowl Champions will cut anyone and everyone who isn't producing on a week-to-week basis.

Rod Marinelli might not be coaching the Mighty Orphans this year. Taco Charlton could be a starter from day one at defensive end, or at least a significant part of the rotation. Joey Ivie is more of a depth piece along the front line at the moment. What Marinelli will like most is his motor.

While the Cowboys had a chance to draft a safety of their choice in the likes of Juan Thornhill or Taylor Rapp (each made pre-draft visits to The Star), they opted to go with the bigger player in Hill. The Cowboys view Hill as a player who can fill in the rotation in 2019 and become a full-time contributor in 2020. Trysten Hill has a quick first step and can get up the field, which is a must for coordinator Rod Marinelli.

Rod is the gift that keeps on giving.

Anyone else should have played RDE, and the proof is in the pudding and playing itself out on that fact. Crawford was a rotational defensive lineman paid like a star that he never became.

Exactly how I felt last year midseason.

Like the guy but it's time to move on. His player acquisition philosophy and coaching off-season and training don't translate anymore.

I find it ironic that people are saying that we gave up on Taco Charlton too early, and in the same breath turning around and calling Trystan Hill a bust.
Under Marinelli's watchful eye...Yes

But maybe we can salvage Hill with a new position coach

I find it ironic that you don't find everything in this forum ironic.
