In that situation, most coaches are going to tell the guy to fair catch the punt....that’s a fact. They don’t want a returner wasting time when the clock is around 35 seconds.

He was clearly told by JG or the ST coach to fair catch that ball.

I could understand if he was a rookie, but he isn't, they should have trusted him to make the call, maybe tell him unless you have a lot of room fair catch it and no dancing get upfield or got down.

Did garrett tell austin to fair catch? I doubt it.

Did the ST coach tell garrett he told austin to fair catch...again I doubt it.

You don't normally see Garrett lie so it could be he was misinformed what was told to austin. definately some miscommunication and that falls on the HC wether he told the ST coach what he wants andf that was improperly conveyed to Austin or not.

I wish he would have ignored the coaching staff and ran it back, but then I remember how the coaching staff or Linehan punished Cooper for talking about how he and Dak had to change up a bad, conservative play call. (Which worked for a big pass play). So I wonder if Garrett and this coaching staff is so stuck in their ways that they would have punished Tavon in some way for not listening to them.

I'm sick of these coaches not utilizing a players best talents and wasting away well played games by a Cowboys QB.

I can't stand jackass pompass Jason garrett. I've said from the beginning he would make a great assistant coach but not a good head coach. well I was right. as an ou fan he reminds me so much of gary gibbs. the same scenario. he quit in 1994 and has not become a head coach anywhere yet a great assistant coach along the way. we have battled a TEN YEAR LEARNING CURVE with Jason garrett...
I don't disagree with you about Garrett not being a good head coach, but what was pompous or jackass like about what I quoted?

What are you talking about that he quit in 1994?

Of course he did you could tell. As soon as he caught the ball he looked at the sideline in disgust. What a clown Garrett is for trying to back pedal. Just say that was the call and it didn’t work out. Move on. Nope instead Garrett rambles on and tries to deflect blame on Austin.
It’s because he knows his ginger azz is now being exposed for the clown he is. And he’s a thief stealing JJ’s money but JJ’s too drunk to notice.

Thanks.

Austin's immediate body language absolutely displayed it was a coaching call. It's very hard to fake that. He'd have to be a sociopath.

I find it hard to believe that with his experience as a returner that he decides on his own not to take that lane that was in front of him. He knew that he had a chance a at a big return which was why he was so disgusted. That's twice within a matters of minutes were this coaching staff took the potential to win the game out of our players hands who had the best chance to win the game at that point.

First they do it with Dak and then Austin.

With all of the Garrett throwing people under the bus, I thought this would be fun.

most coaches aren't going to follow that fair catch up with 3 yard out routes

most coaches? What proof do you have that “most coaches” would do that?
By watching the NFL and listening to announcers. It’s a league wide strategy unless you have Deon or Hester. Games come down to final possessions every week, and you’ll see punts are almost always fair caught, as are kickoffs that are pooched at the end of games. Returns across the league seldom avg. 7 yards while collecting penalties almost every time. Coaches figure they can pick up 10 yards in 3-4 seconds on offense.
