For the past decade(s), Dallas fans have heard season after season the Cowboys "have so much talent". And season after season, this franchise can't make it to a NFC title game.
Many times, just get to 7-9/8-8/9-7 When you look at the Patriots, you might not even name a single player on their DL (w/o looking it up), the Seahawks/Packers/and a few other teams are not "loaded" with talent, but seem to be CONSISTANTLY good every season.
How ?
COACHING and it is why the fans of the Cowboys just keep chanting for a new coach.
It is disappointing but when Garrett was hired, though it was a good one. Ivy League guy, learned under Nick Saban, Jimmy Johnson and was a QB. So, remove Garrett and the team can be in a former situation in the late 90s with numerous coaches walking the sideline for Dallas.
Coaching!!!
Swap Belichick and Garrett between teams and the Cowboys win the Super Bowl.
Maybe the Super Bowl for this season, but definitely the Super Bowl after next season.
It's actually a testament to some of the players that they've been as competitive as they have been considering how much the schemes put them at a disadvantage.
The DL and OL schemes are the biggest issue.
They don't seem to understand Zone Blocking, either how to run it or how to defend it.
Any team must have a Head Coach that is in total control.
Garrett does not even appear to have input into the defense and it's not clear who is in charge of the defense (Marinelli or Richard).
It is also not clear who does what on the offensive game-plan/scheme.
Does Garrett force run or pass onto Kellen Moore?
Does Kellen Moore as a 1st year OC have any input on the run blocking scheme?
I still believe that the Cowboys have some good assistant coaches but a 1st time OC that is only in his 2nd year coaching needs a very strong Head Coach.
I "think" Kris Richard is a good coach but it's very difficult to implement your own defense when someone else is technically the D-Coordinator (Marinelli).
Does anybody remember when Mike Singletary was the Head Coach of the 49ers?
The 49ers had put together a good roster but Singletary just didn't have the CEO type abilities required to be an NFL Head Coach.
Harbaugh come in and quickly had success because much of the talent was already on the roster.
Harbaugh was 13-3 his first season.
The 49ers were 6-10 the previous season and 8-8 the season before that.
