The Cowboys had pick #28 and #60 for the 1st and 2nd rounds respectively in 2017.

Dalvin Cook was drafted at #41.

I posted back then that if he dropped to #60 that the Cowboys should definitely draft him.

I also said that they should consider him at #28 or with a trade down from #28 or trade up from #60.

Most replies were that it was not a good idea and would be over-kill at the RB position. People also said the RB position is not valuable.

Cook had injury issues his first 2 seasons; however, just based on talent it would have been a good move in retrospect.

A healthy Cook coming into this season would have meant either the Cowboys would let Zeke holdout OR Zeke would not have held out.

Cook's speed/explosiveness looks better than Saquan Barkley to me...

The Cowboys drafted Taco at #28 that year...

Who would or would not have drafted Cook?

With the benefit of hindsight, sure I would take Cook over Taco. That's a no brainer. At the time, however, I think it was a fair argument that we had needs other than RB.

I wouldnt draft any RB's in the first round unless it was the final piece to the puzzle. 2nd round and lower for me.

Keep them around for 4 years and then recycle.

Like hogging at it's best. Stupid......

I’m a Seminoles fan and would love Dalvin. That said, I wouldn’t have spent another high pick on him when we already had Zeke at such a high draft pick.

No they should have drafted TJ Watt.

Why would you draft Cook when you had Zeke?

I prefer drafting players when their talent is more than obvious.

From a talent perspective, Cook was as close to a sure thing as it get in the last 1st or 2nd round.

Obviously no pick is a guarantee to avoid injuries.

Without the injury issues, they could likely have has Cook for a couple of years and then traded 1 of them for a 1st round pick.

Even this season prior to the trade deadline, if both were playing (Zeke not holding out), they could have traded one of them.

There has been a sage surrounding Zeke largely because they have not have a replacement for him when he gets suspended or holds out.

Also, Cook is a terrific pass receiver. I'm a fan of Pollard but having Zeke at RB with Cook also on the field as an offensive weapon would make it very difficult to defend the Cowboys.

Match-ups are another issue. In the games like the Vikings game and Saints game where Zeke was not having success, then bring in Cook because his style with a big focus on outside running would give the Cowboys and option when team are shutting down Zeke on inside runs.

Cook has been hurt for the majority of his career lol.

Should the Dallas Cowboys have drafted Tom Brady?
I think we should have drafted Tom Brady back in 2000. I mean we had 5 chances to do it.

Were there any discussions on Cowboys message board about drafting Brady?

Was Brady's talent extremely obvious relative to other players in his draft class?

The point is that Cook dropped in the draft and his talent relative to his draft spot was very obvious.

Cook's talent at RB was on par with Gregory's talent at DE when he was drafted; however, the risk on Gregory was astronomically higher.

The other point is that in the future, it should not be automatic to avoid drafting extremely talented players just because the team already has a significant investment in the position. They had a 1st round grade on LeSean McCoy in 2009 but they had Felix and Barber. McCoy was available at the Cowboys 2nd round pick but they traded down instead of drafting him.

TJ Watt should have been the pick.

No we should not have drafted Cook. We should not draft RBs in the first round.
