It doesn't appear that pathetic in real time, slow motion tends to distort the game speed in my opinion. I'm not defending Smith, but that was one play and the defense as a whole looked gassed. They took a beating.

That was bad. Really bad.

But I struggle to think he's lazy given the sheer amount of work he put in just to get back on the field.

This whole thing from Jaylon's issues to the overall team problems just sucks. We are just a franchise stuck in the mud.
Well he secured the bag so his desire might not be what it was when he was rehabbing. This is not a one play thing, or even a one game thing. Jaylon has been getting blown off blocks all season. I'm just a little shocked how little criticism he's gotten for it.

What I noticed was for whatever reason LVE slows up. If he goes all out when that RB decides to cut back LVE would be right there for the tackle. Yes I wasn't thrilled with Jaylon on that play but he wasn't the only one.

It's amazing how bad they both look, sometimes on the same play. There is that play where the Vikes ran a screen to Cook, Jaylon flies across the field, tries to tackle him high and basically runs by Cook flailing an arm at him. It was a horrendous play.

But on the same play, LVE is right there and basically whiffs on a tackle as Cook makes his cut up the field.

I have really no clue what the hell is going on with our LB play. It's easily the most surprising thing to me this entire season. You went into 2019 thinking there were a few things you could bank on.............. and really good to great LB play was going to be one of those things.

A beating FROM WHAT!? THEY WERE GETTING BURNED FROM BEGINNING TO END. THERE IS NO REASON FOR THEM TO BE GASSED. Offense didn't look GASSED at ALL the entire game (minus the O-line and maybe Zeke). Don't give this defense excuses.

With Garrett still here we'll likely see more of that.

Jerry needed to fire Garrett this week in order to show players he's at least trying to salvage the season after Garrett doing all of the finger pointing. Even though they haven't publicly come out and said the players are wanting a change...... they're wanting a head coach that they respect and know won't be throwing them under the bus.

It's not all out in the open yet but a lot of damage has been done this week.

but but but the players respect Garrett

right @Idgit

There are a couple of threads right on this board criticizing his play. And he's never been great at getting off blocks anyway.

The other issue here is that Smith isn't the only one that has shown a regression in play and even questionable effort. That's not an excuse for Smith at all, he needs to play much better. But I think there is something bigger at play here.

This could be the case. If he overpursues and Cousins keeps the ball that's an easy touchdown to the tight end. I do believe though LVE overall sucks at diagnosing plays. He is a low IQ player.

We need to run this team like the Pats. Pay the big time LOYAL players and cut the garbage. So many of these paid players don't care anymore and I can't tell if it's because of selfish reasons or if its because they don't care/respect Garrett. Or is it because these players are immature and they don't know how to handle being in the NFL properly and they lack a coach to guide them? Too many possibilities...

Agree but he will not. He will sink with this guy like the Titanic sinking.

54, 48, 31, 25 and 55 all looked bad on that play. 54 and 48 got blocked way too easily, 55 and 25 took crap angles and 31 couldn't get off a WR block.

I've watched it 10+ times now. I am stunned each and every time. This is disgraceful. Jaylon has always had trouble taking on blocks and shedding them effectively (even in his good year last year) and on this play it looks like he's simply accepted the fact that he simply cannot do it.

We may need to ship this team to the XFL with the exception of a few players.

Defense has been inconsistent and awful this year. Have to say the LB unit as a whole, has been the most disappointing unit on the team.
True. One game they play at a high level and the next they look hosed. I think the DL is till the weakest link. Offenses get to the 2nd level too easily.
