It's no coincidence that we switch to an offensive coordinator that's a former QB and our passing game becomes extremely successful, but our once dominate running game is now just slightly above average. In my opinion, they need to bring in an assistant that specializes in run play design to help Kellen Moore learn and improve this aspect of his play designing.

Good points.
It obvious some guys are getting physically beat in the run game but I am wondering if the problem is mental as much as physical.
It sounds like almost every run play at least 1 guy completely missed the assignment, released his guy too soon, or was just not in the right space.

We don't have the inside scoop to know how much of a difference in play design now vs 2 years ago.

This realization will be dismissed by the anti Zeke trolls we have around here. They prefer to think on the surface and considering the running game problems to be more than just the guy with the ball in his hands will be rejected.

I'm sure predictability has nothing to do with it though. Just the decline of Zeke.

Just glad to finally hear someone in the national media speaking on it. At least the first I'v heard.


In regards to the video, sounds like the voice of reason. Makes sense

I'm sure if and when the O-line improves to what it previously has been, Zeke will be praised for losing some weight, working on his burst, finding the whole quicker...etc lol

Those things aren't mutually exclusive. There can be ineffective oline play/playcalling and Zeke could have lost a step.

It isn't that they can't run block (although not all of them are great at it). It's that we're essentially lining up in a clear running formation, which draws up the defense, and then trying to run where expected. That's an OK strategy if all of your guys are better than their guys. If you have a weak link or two, it's a good way to get your running back bottled up.

This is the part of the Garrett philosophy that I feared would not go away with a change in coordinator, simply expecting our guys to outexecute their guys. We don't create enough advantages for our players by play design.

We have evidence of the line play being bad. Still waiting on the evidence of Zeke being bad.
