Why would Bill sign a long term contract? For a man of his success, thats a big concession. Odds are he writes his own ticket and has the freedom to do whatever he wants.........the perks of going to 9 super bowls.

not my point, I'm merely looking for a reliable source, not an argument

Don't know that answer, but would be interested if he was....

Guess it is just Hearsay for now, but I think I heard somewhere it was Jimmy, Wannstedt, Turner and Belichick at a table at a restaurant, and Jerry got snubbed, leading to Jerry being pissed off and then making those comments about any coach being able to win with the cowboys.

Nobody knows because the owner has not even made up his mind to get rid of garrett yet. We have seen this before where it looked like he was done then they redo the staff and keep him.

I've thought this whole year that Garrett would move into the front office after this season no matter what. Its a better fit for him and it will be more money for less hours on the job.

If that really was the plan, Jerry (and the rest of the FO) are the type to lay the groundwork way ahead of time. Talking to mutual friends, wink and nod conversations with agents, etc.

I think Broaddus is right in that he is hearing Jerry is loading up a huge move on the next HC, not a flavor of the month assistant. It could be someone like Belichick or one of college guys like Saban or Meyer, but it will take a huge financial move to make that happen. And Jerry isn't afraid to do that, he never has.

Just hoping for Jerry to get desperate to win...

Amen brother. But I have been hoping that for 25 years and if he hasn't seen that light I'm not thinking it is happening anytime soon.

I am also holding out hope his son is not so completely ego driven when he finally does take over, but who knows if that will be true or when that even happens.

Jerry is only 1 year older than last year when the team was 3-5 and everyone in sports was saying Garrett was a nine year failed experiment. What was Jerry's reaction? Fire Garrett?

Nope, trade a 1st round pick for what very well might be a 1.5 year rental in Cooper to try and save his hand picked coach.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be what is best for the team, but it completely flies in the fact of the absolute narcissist that Jerry is to bring someone of Belichick's stature in the take all of the credit for someone finally winning something in Dallas after literally decades of Jerry trying. I just don't see it.

And again, why is Belichick leaving a rich, hands-off owner in NE to work with Jerry's meddling? For Dak? Really? C'mon.

It was determined last year that Dak lacked a true #1 WR thus making it impossible to truly evaluate him as a QB. We lacked a piece to the puzzle and everyone could see the vast improvement Amari made. Imagine what this offense could do with a whole offseason!? That was the logic and this was a "prove it" year.........hence Garret not getting an extension this offseason. Well, its all blown up this season. The team has all the parts it should require and still can't beat anyone good. Jerry didn't have 6-6 in mind when the season began.

For Jerry to fire garret is going to require him to eat enough crowe to make any man humble. Why would Belechik leave? he may not, but there are rumors that he doesn't get along with Brady and he may not want to rebuild a team in NE. Josh McDanials is standing there patiently waiting his opportunity. Why stay? He's got nothing left to prove in NE. Coming to Dallas and ressurecting this franchise would be a much bigger feather in his hat than winning another super bowl in NE. Jerry can pay him just as easilly as Bob Kraft. None of this will be about money. It will be purely about Jerry doing anything to win and Bill wanting a new challenge.

Yep, I think Jerry has had it, and is ready to make a splash, I am only giving one scenario.

Jerry did see what bringing in a real name HC can do when he brought Parcels in after three straight 5/11 seasons and they went 10/6 and made the playoffs.
Hoping he was paying attention.

There is no source. The patriots do not confirm coaching contracts and nobody talks. Everybody who follows the NFL knows this ...........so we are left to infer from things we do know..........like it makes no sense that he would paint himself into a corner with a long term deal with no outs given that he has all the leverage in that relationship. We also know Josh McDaniels changed his mind at the last moment about being the Colts HC so he could return to being NE's OC...........hmmmmm why would he do that........

Jerry stepped aside for Parcells? Maybe for one year. Then he shoved players like Eddie George, Peerless Price and finally TO down his throat. TO was the last straw for Big Bill.

Jerry was a younger man in 2003. Don't underestimate the effect of age on a man's view of the world and his place in it. Jerry's got his gold jacket and all the money he could ever want or require. The one thing he can't buy is a super bowl and its the only things left for him to accomplish. Firing JG won't be done easilly or for no good reason. The next hire won't be a freshly minted HC.

Exactly. Dallas has built one of the best young cores in the NFL over the last five years. They need that big splash to take this team to the next level. Is that anything at all in Jerry's history that would make someone think he will make a cautious move instead of gambling for the big payoff?

Again, fair point, and maybe you're right. I just don't see it. Garret has been the "coach in training" for so long they had to know he was not up to the task long before this, and Jerry thought if he could just get enough talent around him they could overcome Jason's deficiencies. It doesn't mean Jerry is going to turn around and ALSO admit they need an established "football person" other than Jerry to win here.

If you see this as just winning - period, then sure, Jerry should be backing up the truck for Bill. If you see this as it has been for 25 years - winning and more importantly Jerry getting the vast majority of the credit for it, then no way it happens. Even though, if you look at it differently than someone like Jerry, he would get an amazing amount of credit for stealing Belichick away from NE. But he doesn't, he wants to be known as a football guy.

And I don't know Belichick well enough to know what his motivations are. Hell I doubt Mrs. Belichick does. But if for whatever reason he decides he wants to leave NE has has the pick of a LOT of franchises, many of whom do not have meddling owners like Jerry. He's already one of the most respected coaches in NFL history, so I don't know really what is left to prove for him at this point. What if he comes to Dallas and loses due to Jerry's meddling? Will more people be saying he only won because of Brady?
