it shows that you want to win.....he may not win here but if you retain Garrett you really dont want to win

my knee jerk reaction yesterday was I'd rather have him as our DC.

but the closer we get to the seasons end...I'm starting to wonder if Meyer would come here.
he said he'd take the call...doesnt really mean he'd take the job.
i hope like hell he would.

Rivera isn't my first choice but he'd be solid.
our tackling would improve over night.
he'd instill discipline....and you'd think little details on game day would be cleaned up.
•defensive minded
•tough,disciplined

I think he'd work here....be a solid hire.
still rather have Meyer tho.

I have a feeling Jerry will want to make a splash with his next hire, like he did with Parcells. He's increasingly frustrated, knows his clock is ticking, and while he'll never step down he may be willing to cede a little power to a big name.

Parcells has never been critical of Jerry that I've heard, even long after BP needed to worry about getting another job. Jerry backed off some then (albeit for other reasons), and may be getting desperate enough to do it now.

As for Rivera, it would feel a lot like Wade Phillips. Meh.

Now that Rivera has been let go by the Panthers, the possibility exists that he could in fact be the next head coach of the Cowboys. I think that there are better hires and I think there are worse hires, but I'm interested to hear the thoughts from the forum and what your reaction would be if Jerry did hire Rivera as this team's next head coach?
Personally stash, I'd drop my pants and crap golden eggs if he brought him on as our new DC! Not so sure I'd want him as a HC...but that's just me

You people saying this would be no change are just wrong. RR is a defensive mind, having that perspective in the HC role would be a huge change and one that this team needs desperately. I'd be curious to see what changes he would make to the rest of the coaching staff but I like the idea of having a defensive mindset at the HC position.

You're not alone. Ideally, that's the role I'd want him for as well. But I think that he will get offered another head coaching job, somewhere else if not here.

It feels similar to when the team hired Wade years ago. He was best suited as a coordinator too but they had to offer him the head coach job to get him. As I recall, Rivera was in the mix for the Cowboys head job back then as well.

I hope you’re right Jerry’s ready to bring in a HC like Bill. Although his results weren’t any improvement over Garretts.

Bill did say “ you need to influence Jerry to go against his instincts”. Which I think was meant in a derogatory way.

Unfortunately I lean to Troys comments. That’s there’s basically not any real Hope with Jerry’s ways. I’m not sure all fans are prepared for such an outlook?

Great defensive coach that would immediately make an impact on that side of the ball. We’d need a really good OC but when I look at his record it looks a lot like Garrett’s.

Who do people want? No one seems to be good enough. There's not another legend like Parcells out there to hire this time.

I'd take Ron. He's gone much farther than Garrett and he's a genuine, authentic person.

I have the feeling that Rivera would do his best to keep the offensive coaching staff intact. And I'm sure Jerry would love that.

Then, if you could keep Moore around to groom for anotheryear or two, Jerry could then consider him as the next guy depending on how things were going at that point.

I'm curious as to Belichick's true contract status. A long shot, pie in the sky wish, but I'd love to know if he could actually leave New England if he chose to do so.

This team needs a big name HC that players and FO will respect who is no nonsense and not a ‘players coach’ or a spineless jellyfish like Garrett who is only interested in making money

this team needs a culture change not just a HC change.

What's amusing is that Garrett is considered by Sportline oddsmakers to be a top 5 candidate for the Panthers.
Greg Roman and Mike McCarthy are the front runners

The only difference between him and JG is a SB appearance. This would not be an upgrade.
