I say no to Urban as well. This team doesn’t need another college coach learning on the job. Maybe if he already failed once in the NFL, I’d be more open to it (Belichek & Carroll). But this team is going to need an experienced, strong head coach that can push back against Jerruh. We all know he’s got to submit to Jerruh somewhat but if he’s experienced enough, maybe Jerruh will back down a bit. Plus, a friend of mine used to coach for Urban at OSU and he said the guy was the biggest ****** he’s ever been around at the FBS level. So I might be a little biased. :D

Urban Meyer is getting lots of news pointed his way about a future spot on the Jerry's Puppet List.

If people want Urban as a short-term fix/head coach, maybe but this coach will be with Dallas shorter than Jimmy Johnson. Coach Meyer has continuous health issues, along with being with his family. He will be with Dallas for 3 years AT MOST.

Not against that but just expect it.

Maybe it’s just me but the power structures of 30 of the other 32 teams are seriously clouding my judgment with regards to overall expectations with the Cowboys.

My point is that the fan base has been led to believe that Will McClay is the defacto behind the scenes GM for the last few years. Just only not as official title holder. Then why can’t he be officially named General Manager, and pick HIS choice of HC to run the Dallas Cowboys based on HIS vision for the future of the team?

The perpetual cycle of dysfunction is going to continue without this type of drastic decision making taking place at the very top.

So count me in as members of both groups. And that is to replacing BOTH the HC and GM. And yes, JG most definitely needs replacing, and Meyer most likely would be an improvement. But if the GM structure/overall team decision maker remains, real change will never come.

With this type of drastic change, at the very least, there would be a distinct line of accountability and the team could function as most normal teams operate.

Now will it ever happen?
The future of the teams success depends on this decision being made. But how fans interpret team success and how those in control interpret it is how the Cowboys have gotten to where they are today. Don’t count on it. Enjoy the past history and glory for all its worth. It’s all there is at this point.

His health issues have arisen conviently when NCAA stink around his program has arisen

He will no longer have to worry about having to pay players as he can do it here no problem.

Yeah, there are many over the years who have cast doubt on the health issues story always played with Meyer.

Beat me too it. Was going to post yesterday but got busy. Was going to say his stay will be shorter than Tuna's.

If this organization doesn’t change its basic structure with Jerry as the smothering, blathering decision maker, it doesn’t matter if Tom Landry returns from the grave. The foundational flaw is Jerry. If he doesn’t change his ways, every new HC is nothing more than a new coat of paint on the Titanic. This organization as currently constituted will always find an iceberg.

He's a defensive coach.

He is an all-around coach. He played defense in College but spent years coaching different parts of the offense, as well as linebackers and ST’s, while perfecting his craft. He is known for his spread offense and helping QB’s hit the next level.

The main reason I want Meyer is he is an older tough SOB with a mean streak that wont tolerate any crap from Jerry or the players. Think Jimmy Johnson holding Haley's head above the flushing toilet. Plus he does have an impressive track record. Now if you know any other successful mean, tough SOBs looking for a job, let's talk about them.

The last thing I want is a younger nice coach that Jerry controls and the player's disrespect.

That does not translate to "No to Urban Meyer".

So, what about Lincoln Riley? Has that ship sailed, or is this still a possibility? Personally, it doesn't matter to me, I just want someone better than Garrett!! I know, that's a low bar!! LOL

I have reservations about the ability to translate his game to the nfl
I don’t care if he’s here 3-4 yrs and goes
If he can fix this team in the short term ill worry about long term later

If he can get the assistants that he wants, then his chances of success are high.

Parcells never really got the exact set of assistant coaches that he wanted because they were not available.

Jimmy on the other hand, had all of "his guys" from day one except an O-Coordinator. Jimmy the hired Norv Turner and made average an average coach (Turner) into a hot commodity in the NFL. Turner just had to design the plays. Jimmy and his crew made certain the players executed the plays.

That scenario with Jimmy/Norv is exactly what Kellen Moore needed this year. A strong Head Coach and surrounding coaching staff that would do the "coaching" and let Moore design and call the plays.

Jimmy also had a man that rarely gets credit on that staff named Tony Wise, the OL coach. Wise/Jimmy built on OLine that allowed Turner's plays to work. Wise might have been the best assistant coach on the 92 Super Bowl team but he departed to go with Dave Wannstedt to the Bears and to multiple other teams with Wannstedt.
