After 150 career games. 84-66

Garrett has a good regular season win percentage. Unfortunately, he has very little in terms of playoff success. It’s not that he loses in the playoffs, it’s that he seldom gets there.

It breaks down to an average coach.

really? How did GB do when Rodgers went down?
The Saints have a young, experienced starter as the backup that they paid a boatload of money to put there, they are the ONLY team with that luxury...
The Steelers have done surprisingly well.... but lets get real, the best they will finish is 9-7... could very well end up 8-8... hardly a team that has ANY chance of doing anything in the playoffs. Keep in mind, they also get to play the Bengals and Browns 4 times as well.

And we get to play the Giants and Commanders 4 times a year.
 
The purpose of winning in the regular season is to position and prepare you for the playoffs. 84-66 is a good regular season record for a HC....if that’s all you care about.

If our only goal is to win a divisional “championship”, Garrett has been pretty good. If our goal is to win an NFL championship, he’s not met the expectation.

I think one of the culture problems with our leader, his team and maybe even our fan base is consistently having low expectations. Strong leaders always have high expectations. Of course you can’t win a championship every year. But you will never win one if you accept mediocrity as good enough.

Jerry’s famous quote from 1989 is supposedly the guiding statement at the Star...”We must win. We will win. Win is the name of the game.” I think in the 90s that statement was somewhat of a guide. After Jerry got his “stayjum”, I think the definition of “winning” changed to being the #1 sports franchise in value. I guess to the Jones cartel, that’s now what winning means.

Garrett has the Cowboys 7-7, 2 wild card wins, 3 playoff losses, 0 divisional playoff wins and 0 NFC Championship playoff appearances in 10 years. If you want to crown him, then crown him. But he does not have the Tom Landry credentials that you would give him a 10 extension and he goes on to have 20 years of winning, 19 playoff appearances, 10 NFC Championship game appearances, 5 Super Bowl appearances, and 2 Super Bowls.

Mrs. Garrett, in 10 years with good QB play throughout, you have how many playoff wins?

It's a solid record, but not a great one. But the bottom line is if there was more playoff success the regular season record wouldn't be a great concern.
 
The regular season record is decent, but even beyond the complete lack of playoff success:

1) Garrett's had a franchise QB for all but one year, and we saw what happened then.

2) The NFC East has mostly been sorry for the past decade, enabling Jason Garrett. Off the top of my head, the only good regular season teams other than the Cowboys over Garrett's tenure were the 2017 Eagles and the 2016 Giants. The 2011 Giants did win the Super Bowl, but had a mediocre 9-7 regular season.

So like most things Jason Garrett................. he's pretty much average.

Oddly enough, he has a similar winning percentage as Wade Phillips (actually has a lower winning percentage than Phillips), who has coached 146 games and wasn't in the sample.

Jason Garrett has enjoyed very good to elite QB play throughout his entire tenure (top 5 QB rating from 2010 to now). All of the other coaches that got similar elite QB play have much more success to hang their hats on than JG. Aside from QB, we've mostly had very talented rosters as well. JG has gotten very little out of the talented rosters this team has had (especially from 2014-2019).

The situation that Garrett inherited was a dumpster fire. We were tight against the cap with a very poor team, and no lines on either side of the ball.

Say what you want about Garrett, but he did well with what he had to start with. He has underperformed in the playoffs but he is an above average coach in the NFL.

I am growing tired of his robotic act, and lack of playoff success but we can do worse.

We may be able to do better, but it’s not a guarantee.
