Opinions on Dak

He didn't really do anything. His touchdown to Austin was the Rams DB colliding into one another and Rams not knowing how to sack. Zeke literally did all the work. Dak didn't do anything. He was a game manager last week.

Dak has not had a bad playoff game yet. The defense let us down all three times.

Swap Dak with the top 10 and we would win about the same number of games with similar stats.(and no I cant prove it just like the reverse cant be proven). He hasn't been the reasons for our losses. I get some of you don't want the big contract with him. I know exactly how you feel I was infuriated with the second Romo contract extension. Hes going to get paid though . I'm even ok if they franchise him. I'm even ok if they get some quality competition in here to compete with him.something they failed to do with Romo. They need to fix the defense first something that we have discussed now going back to Romo days.

They can win with this guy thats whats important.

I'm wondering, do other QBs not get credit for yardage and TD's when the opposing defense makes mistakes, or does that apply only to Dak?

Be realistic - sure, the running game was the bigger factor in this past game. No reasonable person would deny that. But no reasonable person would deny that Dak did the right things that he needed to in this game as well. He made throws he needed to, he made decisions he needed to, and he called audibles he needed to.

Dak has been exceptional considering the investment.

I never hated him, but before this year he was an average qb, he has elevated his game.
 
I like Dak and I believe he is a top 12 NFL quarterback who can get better. I just would not pay him top 5 quarterback money. The evidence is clear. Only a handful of quarterbacks are worth that cash and Dak does no meet that criteria.

Managing a game IS doing something positive for the team.

And, do you seriously not understand that other QBs have games like this too. If Brees of Rodgers had their running game working like ours was against the Rams they wouldn't go pass happy either - they would keep handing the ball off and making the smart decisions just like Dak diid. Aikman had a lot of games like this with Emmitt in the backfield. A QB doesn't have to put up fantasy football stats to do a great job.

The job is to do what is best for the team given the circumstances, and being smart and disciplined enough to do that amounts to a very positive effort by the QB.

Not much has changed with Dak he is basically the same player he was in college but now he has experience under center but the vast majority of these weaknesses from his NFL scouting report continue.

Weaknesses
  • Inconsistency mars almost every aspect of his game, especially mechanically
  • Rocks back with a slight hitch in his delivery when putting zip on the ball
  • Can wind up with longer release when going down the field
  • Tendency to release the ball a tad early, resulting in a sailing or fluttering pass
  • Needs to vary the pace of the ball to match the situation/route (no bullets on screens)
  • Location and accuracy are generally poor, makes receivers adjust to off-target balls and minimizes yards after catch
  • Makes very poor decisions at times, forces passes into coverage
  • Footwork can get sloppy, will fall off his base throwing to his left, loses accuracy/velocity
    • Doesn’t possess the heralded “power arm” that he was once rumored to have
    • Deep ball accuracy is lacking, touch passing needs a compass
    • Does not throw with anticipation, poor timing leads to late throws to all areas of the field
    • Can be confused and fooled by more intricate coverage schemes (ex. Alabama’s pattern reading)
    • Lacks accuracy and velocity when throwing on the move
    • Not a great athlete, heavy-footed and lacking lateral quickness and explosiveness as a runner
    • The Bold areas above are the most concerning. Dak has a bad habbit of throwing the ball right at defenders because he does not read defenses well. He has thrown multiple passes right at defenders that have been dropped this year and throughout his career. Dak lacks the accuracy and velocity to fit the ball into tight windows. Lacks the confidence to attack 1:1 coverage outside.

first we looked a Daks weakness from his nfl scouting report which can be found at https://draftwire.usatoday.com/2015...w-about-2016-nfl-draft-prospect-dak-prescott/ now we will look at his strengths. Note that my notes are in bold below.



Strengths
  • Powerful, well-built frame meant to withstand punishment
  • Flashes ability to throw a tight spiral when his mechanics are under control. His mechanics have proven to be too inconsistent for this to be considered a strength. We see flashes of this but no consistency.
  • Good, calm pocket presence, will step up to evade pressure and keep eyes downfield. Has proven to have poor pocket presence.
  • When base is sound, can drive the ball into tight windows with excellent velocity. Due to poor mechanics we have seen flashes of this but overall he lacks velocity and accurace to fit the ball into tight windows.
  • Strong frame that stands tall in the pocket despite pressure. Poor pocket awareness holds ball too long.
  • Mobility to escape the pocket and extend plays when needed, always keeping eyes downfield
  • Works through his progressions while staying calm in the pocket. Gets fooled by coverage way to often and often throws the ball right at defenders.
  • Gets rid of the football quickly/efficiently without taking undue punishment in the pocket. Poor pocket presents holds ball too long.
  • Can move a defense with his eyes and mobility, creating windows for receivers where there were none
  • Strong runner in the open field that is tough to bring down
  • Physical, competitive, physically and mentally tough
  • Heralded throughout the college ranks for his maturity, character, and leadership abilities
  • Extremely hard worker who has made strides every year

But let's look at the Seattle game

22/33, 66.7%, 226 yards, 6.8 avg, 1 TD 1 INT, 83.6 QB rating

This is pretty average.

He hasn't had a bad one. Still not sure what your point is. Are you saying Dak played well against Seattle? If so it proves my point. You brought up his playoff performances. I commented about his overall playoff games then you reply only about the games lost. It's cool though. Enjoy the holidays.

Of course he had a bad one. He was terrible in the Packers game, and then he had to play catch up the rest of the game. I don't care how "close" the game was at the end. He sucked for 2 quarters and put us in a hole, threw a costly INT in the second half. It's no different than his Packers game this year.

And I just posted his stats against the Seahawks, it's not even like he lit them up. He was spectacularly average in that game as well. Dak has never elevated his play in the playoffs, which was the argument you went against anyways.

And YOUR argument was that he never had a bad game, YOU WERE WRONG. He was average against the Seahawks in every statistical category. There was no time for garbage time stats, when the game was close - he was average.
 
I like Dak as a person and I think his attitude is healthy to build a team around. I was all for signing him to a good sized guaranteed deal at the beginning of the season (and against giving Zeke more $$).

Then I heard the dollar figure he's supposedly throwing around. Now I'm certain that he is delusional and we need to start looking for our next guy.
