Which do you prefer to be the news on Monday, preparing for WC game or JG not being retained

So, here's what I take from that:

1) We're supposed to be impressed by an undergrad degree.

2) We're supposed to be impressed by an undergrad degree in Psych.

3) We're supposed to be impressed by an undergrad degree from a major university.

4) You presume it's likely that would be impressive because, surely, no one with a master's degree in the social sciences from a major university would post here... let alone, someone with a terminal degree.

And most relevantly:

5) That your description of diehard fans from whatever study it is you've cited... and I don't doubt you've stated the study basically with some level of accuracy... is not congruent with "those who just use sports as an outlet to feel powerful and smarter than everyone else, ostensibly because they don't get to do that in any other part of their lives."

To the contrary, my friend, why else would one invest him/herself quite so intensively?

As a psych expert like yourself surely knows as s/he walks into this discussion, the psychological drive to feel powerful and superior intellectually, when unmet in other parts of his/her life, is naturally especially intensive then in other places... often personal relationships... and often, again, in one's connection to his/her sports team(s).

In other words, the diehard fan, just rationally, profiles most typically as a person who places greatest priority on showing him/herself smarter than the owner, GM, coach, players when they're losing, and complimenting him/herself on all his/her mind-melding with the team's principals when they're winning.

Others of us?

We're just in it for the entertainment value. It's just sports. In real life, there are other better ways to reassure oneself that s/he's superior/intelligent/valuable.

Pardon the observation but it's more entertaining to win games and make the playoffs, keeping hope alive than it is to see someone lose his job.

Try to see it from our point of view.

That’s deep.

Kudos.

Here's where Im at with this. I have wanted Garrett gone for probably the last 7-8 years, after his continual miss-management of this team.
Feel they are closer to making that a reality than at anytime in the last 10 years.
So.
I don't want anything to screw that up !
I will take the loss in this last game, or a very bad win, coupled with the Shegles winning against the Giants to win the division.
I want Jerry so embarrassed that there is no possible way he brings Garrett back, and is forced to make wholesale changes.
Plus if we were to lose, or at least not win the division - our draft position will be much better. If Jerry is embarrassed enough, which I believe he's close, hopefully several coaches, and coaching philosophies are jettisoned as well (Cough, cough - Marinelli).
As a fan, it goes against all logic to feel this way, but ****** this is where we are at.
Garrett must go !!!

Couldnt agree more, there needs to be some serious changes both for the team and by the organization as a whole. Tomorrow is the big day where reguardless of outcome that change needs to start.

This team isn’t winning the Super Bowl this year. They just aren’t good enough. That aside, Jason Garrett is incapable of having them ready to play in the playoffs and has proven that he can’t outscheme or outcoach his competition through the playoffs.

Getting into the playoffs this year doesn’t mean anything. We know what will happen more than likely.

We have wasted so much time and talent with this clown. He should have never of been hired for the job. Since he is being forced on us for one more game, get it over with and get him off the field ASAP.

no true cowboy fan would want anything different.

That's just bass.ack.wards.

Every true Cowboys fan hopes for the best... the highest possible level of success... until the season is over and the fat lady has sung.

To want different is to be taking the game way too seriously (see above).

Not that that's uncommon. It's very common. But the game is entertainment, and that's all it should be. If you wouldn't wish Joe Schmo or Jane Shmae to lose his/her job in real life... well, this is real life for some people. Not us. But some people.

Not saying "Don't wish for it." Am saying "Wish for it only after all hope for success is extinguished."

I would rather get the home playoff game.

1. That's not what is best for the Cowboys in terms of draft position. But..............they're going to **** that up anyway.

2. That's not what is best for the Cowboys in terms of moving on from JG. But.................they're going to **** that up anyway.

3. That's not what is best for the Cowboys in terms an easier schedule next season. But...................they had a fairly easy schedule this season and ****** it up anyway.

So you see. We may as well extend the season for at least one more game. It is the playoffs after all. Let's have some fun with it if it happens.

Unfortunately for us the fanbase, Jerry is going to break all the rules and string the Garrett thing on well into the off season... You don't believe me, just sit back and watch.. Even though he will technically be without a contract that doesn't mean that Jerry won't be up to his old tricks and string it out a long as possible while great coaching candidates get snatched up.

Typical Jerry will start interviewing other coaches all the while being vague on whether or not he will retain the freckled puppet. During this mess, real coaches will get fed up and sign with someone else.

Realize that in your scenario Garrett would be free to sign with any other team that would take him. If he is smart he would take the next job that comes along.

Both.
With a special write-up about how Jerry lost it and fired Jason right there on the sidelines during the Commanders game and the Cowboys are moving forward with Kellen Moore as Interim.

I’m confident Garrett is going away in a matter of weeks, regardless. So yeah, I’ll take the division and a playoff berth, please.

I can almost GUARANTEE that the ONLY way Garrett’s not gone next year is if the Boys run the table. We know that’s not gonna happen, so let’s embarrass the Deadskins, then laugh at the little mouth breathers in Philly as they go down AGAIN!
ALMOST being the keyword. I want to root for us to make the playoffs, but ALMOST guarantee, Garrett is gone, scares me!

Your confident, but not positive he’s gone? That is to much of a risk.

I prefer the Cowboys having better fans. Preparing for a WC game is obviously better news. Only bad fans ask such stupid questions.

As undeserving as it would be for us to back into a WC Playoff game, I'd prefer that over Garrett being Fired. Then if we lost there, JG will still end up gone anyway but so long as there's a chance, no matter how small of reaching the Super Bowl, I'd want to see that play out.

The only way to be absolutely positive is to be in that room. Not like any of us impact it anyway, but if it helps I’d wager at even money his contract lapses followed by an announcement of a new hire within days.

I’m not the least concerned it won’t happen. What I won’t bet is, the next guy is a cinch to fix what’s wrong.

At this point, the only question for me remains whether or not the Giants can help us out. And, of course, if we can handle our end in Arlington.

Why is everyone so sure Garrett won't be resigned? I know it's popular opinion but......
