Jerry has all but said the next coach won’t come from the college ranks. We also know Jerry has a tendency to hire people he’s worked with before.

The list of people on NFL coaching staffs who’ve worked with Jerry in the past is relatively short. It gets even shorter when you eliminate people who are underperforming in their current role.

In my estimation, the list of people on NFL staffs who have history with Jerry and are excelling in their currents roles looks like this:

-Norv Turner
-Ken Norton Jr.
-Dan Campbell
-Matt Eberflus
-Bill Callahan (excelling as OL coach; not necessarily as interim HC)

I suspect the Joneses will be inclined to favor a defensive minded coach since that side of the ball is in need of correcting the most. It would also allow them to shoehorn Kellen Moore onto the new staff, which I think they believe would be good for Dak’s continued development.

All this points to Matt Eberflus.

For what it’s worth, I’d go with Greg Roman if it were my choice.

Not so sure. I just think he didn't fit from a personality aspect. He is a bit weird. Ketchup bottle, piano, all that.
That would mean:

Pollack: Too much of a Caveman "Just punch em in the mouth".

Alexander: Not enough of a Caveman "How would you feel about punching the opponent"

Its going to be Riley or Urban. Meyer is Taylor made for this job but Jerry prob doesn't want to give up control like Bill Parcells. McDaniels would be fine. Anybody but Riley. Jerry would run all over him.

Something I think we have to consider, Jerry and Stephen don't see Jason as bad of a coach as many fans ( most fans saying they'll take ANYONE over Garrett). In fact, in their mind, he's a damn good coach. So if this is your thinking and you're looking to replace him, you obviously want someone with a better record. The fact Jerry recently pointed out ( w/o being asked) the lack of success by college coaches in NFL tells me it's not something he just pulled out of nowhere but something he and Stephen have already discussed. Probably not in the context of replacing Jason but in general. Either it's big with them IMO. Just me, but this tells all college coaches w/o NFL experience have a steep hill to climb. They have to prove they can not only match Garrett winning regular-season record but succeed his post-season record as well WITHOUT any skin on the wall or proven track record.

The bottom line, if I'm hiring to replace Jason, I don't need a coach who can win regular-season games. Hell, Garrett was pretty good at that. My vet team is in a win-now mode. I need a guy with a proven playoff record. If you go back look at Jason's tenure, with the exception of one season, he had this team in a position to make the playoffs by the end of the season every year. IMO this the floor/starting point for my next hire. This is why I believe the next guy will have a strong NFL post-season record, maybe Super Bowl attached to his resume. I see......

Mike McCarthy
Gary Kubiak
Makes sense, I could see this happening...……….I would probably go McCarthy over Kubiak if I was forced to choose.

He is isnt a good fit for thar franchise right now IMO. They have his QB, but they are still talent poor and in the very early phase of a rebuild. With Meyer's history, he cant be viewed as a long term option. Meyer in Washington may he similar to Parcells in Dallas. Buy the time the roster is remade to his standards, he will be ready to leave.

Where Dallas fits Meyer, is that talent wise they in a playoff window. The talent has been overrated, but this is still a team that should be counted on for 10 to 11 wins. Meyer is stepping into a window in Dallas to where he can compete. I don't think Meyer is going to have any interest in a rebuild. If there was a threat to steal, I think it would be Cleveland. He is a native Ohioan.

I think if Washington swung big in College ranks, I think Swinney would a better fit than Meyer

I agree, I think Dallas is the perfect fit for Urban Meyer.

The big questions is if Jerry is willing to swallow his pride and give up some, doesn't have to be all, but some control over to Meyer. Like letting him pick his own staff. I dont know if Jerry is willing to do that so it might be a deal breaker, I dont know. Urban Meyer is no puppet.

Eberflus:huh:

He is the DC for the Colts and a quick look at the stats say he is average at best.

Colts 15th in points allowed, 16th in yards allowed...…………….8th against the rush is good, but 22nd against the pass is bad.

Well, at least its an upgrade from Clappy but dam, I was kinda hoping for somebody a little bit better.

Unless Jerry actually empowers a coach rather than just appoint one, it doesn't really matter. Call any shot you like.
This. JJ is going to have a blast behind all the microphones/cameras with all the attention. He’s going to milk this process out keeping everyone in suspense as long as possible just to see/hear himself on the news and sports channels every day.

Gary Kubiak (58) and Mike McCarthy (56) both have winning records (regular and postseason) and a SB ring as a HC.
They should definitely be on Jerry's short list to interview IMO.

My head coach brings the backup in when the starter gets 2 field goals. Who's that? I don't know

I like the Kubiak idea.

If his health is good, he would be in my top 2 for certain.

No coach, without control, will fix this mess...period! He might inspire and offer marginal inspiration initially, but it will just end up as it has with JJ in the mix...

A controlling GM and HC, with JJ out of football operations, in his owners box, or gone completely (most desirable), is our only hope! Not going to happen... Might as well just sign JG up for another 4 years...

His son Klein was just hired by the Cowboys as a scout. Also wasn't he on the short list to be hired as OC at that one point?

I would like Kubiak, but I want to keep Kellen Moore no matter what. It will be interesting to see who the DC is or if they hired a defensive guy as HC.
