Jaylon Smith

Physically he looked like he did in 2017. Very choppy in his steps, bad ccx angles etc etc. If the leg issue is tgere, and it appears it is then Jerry messed up.

Some kind of leg issue is there. You could see it all year, and *increasingly* as the year went on. The team hasn't commented on the obvious problem all year. I don't know if they know about a particular injury, or just whiffed on the medical eval in the offseason. But Jaylon ain't right.

They ALL FAILED.................This is a team game , and they didn't play as one the entire season...............And that is an indictment of the coaching staff , but every single player needs to be held accountable , too.....................

This! But of course you know who will get the most votes.

Did any Cowboys make it into the playoffs? Then the players that failed in 2019 is...the Dallas Cowboys. Yep, every single one of them.

If all you care about is his sack numbers then you will be disappointed. If you actually watched him play then you would have seen a solid performance especially against the run coming off an injury.
yeah he at least played hard, and others got sacks due to him chasing qb to them.
To me he is the only one that got a new contract that at least tried to earn it.

About the def players, if your playing in a outdated stupid crap zone scheme doing what marinelli says to do, it is hard to excel in that.
it is also hard to be motivated knowing your playing in that stupid scheme.

Off players, Dak was not signed, that had an effect, and was on his mind all season instead of being paid and no worries.
I think jones boys plan on franchising dak, and if Dak is not happy about that , why should he play his best? he has been and still was playing
for peanuts this year on 4th round rookie contract.
When he is franchised , he may hold out, or he may hold back, as with no big longterm contract he has to play safe and avoid injury.

Same for Amari, Jones boys got what they paid for, which wasnt much, and if he thought they were not going to pay him why try hard?
Amari was weird though , he played good in home games, I guess for the local fans, but then powered down on all the road games.
If you want full time Amari, I guess they need to get a deal done with him.

Then Elliot was bad most of the year, he looked better at times in the last few games, but no way he was earning his big payday, but also
coaches dont use him properly, or run enough.

Cobb I thought played well, and Gallup did good except for his drops which were costly phil game.
The OL, the way they are taught to block, and schemes used are the big problem, more so than the players.

When the team is coached so poorly, it is hard to evaluate the players, except in their attitude, on and off field.

Jaylon was a bad and stupid draft pick, and it was stupid to extend him.

Since it looks like JG will get extended, it will be more of the same next year.

Everyone apart from Jarwin, Gallup, Quinn and Hyder. I can't really think of any other players that stood out. The rest were above average at best.

There’s a boat load if you want to go there. Pollard only guy in draft...so there’s that group who failed. Then we got C.Williams...that wasn’t good. Zeke and his slow start to missing camp. Lawrance anyone? 1/2 a sack over last half ..speaks for itself. Then there’s J.Smith...and the secondary just put in a basket cause that’s a thread in itself. The d-line depth was almost no help at all. K Maher and P C.Jones? Ughhh....Dak was up and down all year...wasn’t closing out close games,that’s a fail. Witten? Yeah,though not from lack of trying..he just isn’t Witten anymore,but the drops and fumble that one game still counts as a fail. Cooper? Very disappointed in his effort,or lack thereof at times. Gosh you can go on and on....that’s a lot of individuals failing. Not happy at all with this year...much worse,I’m disappointed.

I say Zeke. He's the highest paid running back and never showed up until the last part of the season. Heck, he didn't even show up during the Eagles game.

man zeke is getting alot of flack and when you pull his stats, he is the only bright spot on offense. Take him away and we probably win 3 games lol. he was #2 in the nfl in all purpose yards vs other RB's. He was number 4 in rushing yards, he was #5 in rushing tds, #1 in nfl with rushing first downs at 78, 5th for yards for game, of players with 250 or more carries he was 4th in nfl for yards per carry.

Not really sure what more you can ask of an RB, LOL, he gets a ton of flake but he actually brings it, oh ya, he only lost 2 fumbles all year with 300+ carries. He made the pro-bowl not because of his name, but because he was top 5 in almost every category for a rusher.

he wasnt injured. Whatever his injury was, torn labrum I think, was surgically fixed on his own timetable. If he wasn't right it's because he's a selfish idiot but not injured.

Exactly. When you get 14 carries what can you do?

Now if he’s going 31 carries, 35 yards and 0 TDs I get it. But when you get 15-20 a game what can you do

Agreed.

Would you want more sacks? Sure.

But to ignore the how he played against the run and brought pressure is simply misguided.

Awuzie was effectively abused all season from start to finish. The fact they pulled him on the last game was comical but speaks to the coaching staff’s collective ineptitude.

Jaylon is to me the biggest disappointment on defense hands down. I saw some warning signs last year with his play but presumed he would evolve with more playing time and NFL experience.

He didn’t.

His regression was stunning to the extent I don’t think he’s a starting NFL caliber LB. I mean, you can trot him out there but you get diminishing returns with him snap after snap.

  • He is utterly useless in space;
  • Does not take on blocks to disrupt running lanes/gets washed out of plays;
  • He epitomizes the phrase “takes false steps;”
  • Is a liability in coverage other than covering a receiver sitting down over the middle;
  • He chronically takes the bait on play-action or misdirection plays;
  • He often misreads the hole, putting him in pursuit.
I would also add that I think he lacks good linebacking instincts. Think about it...when was the last time you saw Jaylon make a read, anticipate, react and blow up a run play or screen that was developing?

The highlight plays he does have are typically him running in a straight line to beat a guy to a point (eg. the DeShaun Watson goal line play last year) which exemplify the one positive trait I think he has.

The FO absolutely blew it with extending him early. He’s due an $8M fully guaranteed option bonus in March. The team is saddled with him likely until 2022 due to the salary cap impacts.
