I've seen it mentioned a bunch of times that Leroy Butler and Darren Woodson were basically canceling each other out as it related to HOF voting.

I am pretty surprised Butler is one of the Top 15 HOF Finalists this year -- I really thought Woodson had the edge over Butler.

I think that some consideration has to be made for guys who've been retired longer if they're going to get in at all. Woodson was a terrific safety, but Polamalu was better...however, Polamalu doesn't keep getting snubbed for no real reason.

Edit to add: Also add in that they played in different eras with vastly different rules...the passing game got a lot more important and involved over time, thus leading to more opportunities.

Woodson is going to be waiting for a very long time. Atwater and Lynch are still waiting.

More deserving than Polamalu....?

Yes, polamalu couldn't do all the jobs Woodson could. And polu hot slow fast , he was way too slow the last three years of his career and was hurting his team in coverage. Woodson could do polu job, but no way, polu does woodson's job. How many guys did Woodson have to teach and get up to speed on defense and special teams. Woodson didn't promote himself and imo, this is what's killing him in the votes area. Neither did Harvey Martin for that matter. I liked to know how many players got their bell rung by Woodson. I can see Jerry chicken Rice ducking his way out of woodson's way right now. Woodson was the opposite of Deion. Woodson was a team player with humility, taking a lesser contract to help team, while the chicken Deion self promoter, was trying to bankrupt the team, While dodging tackles. The HOF is more about show than substance. They need to make the head statue of Reggie White with tears , with the head of Erik Williams right beside his with his hand fist heading toward Reggie's head lol.

It’s a sad commentary on the voters that Woodson can’t make it. Can’t even make the finalists list? Add him to the list of cowboys snubbed.

There is a bias and or jealousy. That or they overcompensate to not look influenced by the massive attention the team and players get which many feel is undeserved. The attention clearly angers some fans and these writers are likely no more than that. Bitter fans.

Stats really don’t show what these players accomplished and that’s a problem for safeties. Though the voters should be much much more knowledgeable.

Hard hits that are now illegal changed the complexion of the game and was as big a momentum changer as a turnover, but only shows up to these writers as another tackle or maybe a pass breakup.

Atwater and Woodson scared receivers by hurting people. That completely changed how teams played a team with a player like that.

Or is it even remotely possible that the rest of the world holds him to a more objective view than Cowboys fans? If you think something and everyone else thinks something different, that doesn’t mean everyone else is crazy and you’re not.
