I would take Riley in a NY second. People scoffing because of his bowl game is silly.

I hope they also bring in Rhule and Peterson. Throw in Mullen, and Kirby Smart. Leave no stone unturned.

Here is a legit question...Andy Reid was similar...NFCCGs and 1 SB appearance.. and then reinvented himself in KC. You’d take Reid. Could McCarthy with his new analytics have reinvented himself ? Just talking out loud

To go along with my post I’ll repost this if some didn’t know what I was talking about. These threads go quick where you miss stuff Fun watch

Fine. You say McCarthy's three championship games and Super Bowl victory mean nothing.

Who do you suggest and based on what criteria?

Meyer, Riley and Rhule? There have been similar great college coaches like Spurrier, Kelly and Saban who flamed out in the NFL.

McDaniels and Roman? Plenty of great coordinators haven't been able to handle the jump to head coach. In fact, McDaniels has failed once already.

Truth is, it's hard to say exactly who can make the transition, that's why so many head coach choices don't work out. I'd rather get someone who has at least shown he can get to a Super Bowl, and win it. He may not be able to do it again, but that gives him a leg up over these "unknowns" IMO.
Well said. Truth is jimmy was the exception, not the rule.

I reckon the announcement of a Mike McCarthy interview is also the most we'll get as an announcement that Garrett will not be retained?

Most likely. Any quarterback worth his salt is going to eventually be given that authority. Guaranteed that Tom Brady has that same kind of authority. It doesn't change the fact that the system is designed by the offensive coordinator/head coach. The system in Dallas was the failure. I'm not sure that we can say the system in Green Bay was the reason for its success, but the Packers did have success under McCarthy. Can he replicate that without Rodgers? That's impossible to say.

The Green Bay offense implemented a fireman's drill - when the play breaks down after 3 seconds the QB (Rogers) has to scramble and the receivers have to get open to help their QB out. It's built into their offense and I think that McCarthy had something to do with that.

With our offense, Garrett's would just run the same play over and over. There is no such thing as an offense breaking down. His offense is predicated on having a perfect pocket where we can simply run curl routes all day long and have open receivers. But we all know that doesn't happen. So when a play breaks down most our receivers just stand there.

We never factor in a play breaking down. That's why Garrett has been a dismal failure.

At least with McCarthy, an offensive play can't be perfect all the time. So you have to build in scrambles and plays outside of the pocket as part of the offense.

It is an interesting rebranding. Not sure I am all that excited by it though. Like suddenly now he is about analytics but in 2018 he was criticized for being stubborn, behind the times and predictable. Sounds familar.

I’d prefer McCarthy over any college coach.

That said I have little excitement for McCarthy.

Anybody hiring him is betting he can reboot himself like Andy Reid did when he left Philly for KC.

What about Lewis as DC

I think they are just planning to announce the new coach and never actually announce Garrett not returning. I assume in their warped mind that makes him avoid the stigma of being fired. It will be almost like he never existed.

This. Garrett will just evaporate into thin air and Jerry will deflect all questions related to him.

I’ll say it again.

No coach has ever won a super bowl in two cities. I doubt he’s the one to break that trend.

Do you think Jerry will let him bring in his own coaching staff; if so, I’m all for it. It will be interesting to see.

McCarthy is 7-3 against us in his career. He took the Packers to the playoffs 9 times in 14 seasons. 4 of those 9 times resulted in Conference championship game appearances with a Super Bowl win too. I don't have a problem with him being our next coach. He's got skins on his NFL wall. ..... and he's not clappy clown......

I’ve always liked mccarthy as a darkhorse, word is rodgers didnt ever like what mccarthy called so he switched up alot, dude averaged about 10 wins a year, won a superbowl. Sean peyton is better but by how much? They both had elite qbs...if anything brees has been better than rodgers lately. Mccarthy is only 56 and has been working this year off with his “crew” learning how the game is trending and studying film.

MIKE MCCARTHYS RECORD IN GREEN BAY- 125-77-2
PLAYOFFS- 10-8

SEAN PAYTONS RECORD IN NEW ORLEANS- 137-83
PLAYOFFS- 8-6
