For those who want McCarthy

A central point of his interviews is convincing GMs/owners he's changed. That tells me a lot about the man and his character. I'd have no problem with Mike as the next coach as long as he brings a STRONG DC.
McCarthy has the same problem as past coaches in Dallas, he won’t have the luxury of picking out his DC or any other asst coaches. Jerry makes those decisions.

My thoughts on McCarthy:

Negatives:
  1. Clearly he didn't keep up with the times and from 2015-2018 the Packer offense fell way behind the times and that's on McCarthy
  2. He showed poor judgment holding on to Dom Capers for way too long who consistently delivered bottom half of the league, if not downright awful, defenses
  3. He got too comfortable in the role. That can happen in Green Bay where there is no owner breathing down your neck
Positives
  1. MThe Packers were 4-12 in 2005 and Favre threw 29 interceptions and was considered DONE the year before McCarthy showed up. Within 2 years he had Favre played excellent ball again and had the Packers in the NFC Championship game. He was able to do something most didn't think possible, resurrecting Favre's career.
  2. Rodgers did not come out of Cal ready to play in the NFL. He was Tepford disciple and was even compared to Kyle Boller! McCarthy played a very significant role in developing Aaron Rodgers and he should be credited with that.
  3. Ted Thompson did not believe in free agency, at least not after 2006/2007 or so and overtime the Packer's talent declined significantly. McCarthy couldn't control that
My Summary

I like but don't love McCarthy as a Cowboys HC candidate. Of the existing available former coaches he is at the top of the list, however, at the end of the day I'm not confident he will be a huge upgrade over JG, especially if he isn't alllowed to pick his own assistant coaches,.

It also said Rodgers held a grudge from SF not drafting him with the first pick when MCarthy was OC at SF, and that Rodgers was arrogant and thought he was better than others he felt weren't as smart as he was.

I'm not saying that's true, but we should be fair and admit the article doesn't hold Rodgers blameless.
Everything that I have read about Rodgers, even quotes from his family, supports the ideal that Rodgers is an arrogant know-it-all that is just about impossible to get along with. His girlfriends even feels this way. As a human being, the guy seems to be trash.

Of course not. Everyone has different opinions. It could be Belichick and some wouldn't like it. But that sure doesn't invalidate people's belief that McCarthy isn't a very good option.

Even more likely is that whatever name they fill in the blank with will be rubber stamped by the homers as a "great hire".

McCarthy would not be my 1st choice but yes I would give him a chance to prove himself before blasting him. As for Homer, we are fans we do not run anything you back your team or you don't. Rubber stamp what? We have no say but to whine when people do not get their way is childish and frankly pathetic.

That street you're crying about runs two ways, not just the one way you seem to think.

But back on the subject, since it appears to be a done deal, I echo your statement. Not my 1st choice either but he gets points for being 'not Jason Garrett'. I'll give him a chance as well, especially if he can manage to get a Marvin Lewis to fix this sorry defense.

I think this says it all - Rodgers was a spoiled brat: McCarthy never had a chance with him.

Nobody holds a grudge in any sport like Rodgers. When it comes to Rodgers, grudges do not merrily float away. They stick. They grow. They refuel.

No, Rodgers would not forget that McCarthy had helped perpetuate his four-and-a-half-hour wait in the NFL draft green room the year prior. His nationally televised embarrassment. McCarthy, then the 49ers offensive coordinator, chose Alex Smith No. 1 overall. Not Rodgers.

No, Rodgers would not take it as a funny accident.

"Aaron's always had a chip on his shoulder with Mike," says Ryan Grant, the Packers' starting running back from 2007 to 2012. "The guy who ended up becoming your coach passed on you when he had a chance. Aaron was upset that Mike passed on him—that Mike actually verbally said that Alex Smith was a better quarterback."

How so? All I have said is who ever is named HC should be given a chance before people start slamming him. We are fans you nor I have any say so at all. You back your team or you don't, if you are not backing your team then what they hell are you doing? why be a fan of a team you can't support? That is just stupid

Great hire lol
1. Mccarthy scheduled personal massages during practice time routinely .
2. Aaron Rodgers told anyone that would listen that McCarthy has the lowest football IQ of any coach he's ever worked with at any level .
3. During his last years the players ignored him .

So is that an all or nothing proposition to you? Because that's how you're making it sound.

With McCarthy 2017-18 - 13 wins

Without McCarthy 2019 - 13 wins

I don't need the article to show me that.
You apparently need one to give you a brain however.
Rodgers was injured in 2017 and if you read he called his own plays in 2017 freezing McCarthy out.

Anyways they are gonna hire who they hire, likely McCarthy, feel free to hate it.
Enjoy tilting at windmills much??

Giving a new HC a chance before he has stepped foot on the field is all or nothing? I will say if you can't back or support your team and all you do is complain why be a fan of something you do not like or agree with? That makes no sense, go Cowboys but I hate the coach, the owners and the players? lol so what are you cheering for? all thing you don't like? Come on

Am I reading the same article?

Rogers is the one who gets nailed.

His wideout says he's toxic. His tight end says he's self-entitled and a bad leader.
Exactly.
The rookie WRs were scared, players were bullied, AR called audibles and flat made up plays that didn't work in the huddle.

What changed? AR got an 180M contract that made him more powerful than the Coach.
The Coach looks bad in that he "checked out" but he knew the Org has chosen AR over him and was on borrowed time.

So I should epcheck my brain at the door and rubber stamp everything? Is that how you do it? Since you seem to think you wrote the book.

Enjoy tilting at windmills much??

If you're going to try to use a phrase like that to demean someone, try to make sure it's applicable. Otherwise you look dumb - like now.

Take all the time you need to figure it out. If you think "all I do is complain", the problem is yours, not mine.

Well, I guess it depends on their credibility. Oh wait, if you are anonymous how can you be credible? You aren't willing to expose yourself to contadiction. It's weak and lazy reporting. It's a fan mag that it came from.

No, it's not lazy. There is some information you're not going to get on the record. I'm a former reporter. I know.

Second, the writer of this piece includes named sources who give an indication of support for the anonymous comments. That's the way it's done. You get enough information from those who WILL go on the record and supplement that will information from anonymous sources.

Third, if it's wrong and egregiously wrong, Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy can sue.

Besides, if not for anonymous sources, President Richard Nixon would have gotten away with felony, we wouldn't have the Pentagon Papers and most of the critical news stories that change society would have remained secrets, and no telling what damage that would have done to our society.
