We have an objective coach now. This will lead to many positive changes and will expose a lot of weak links. I haven't been this excited about our team in a long time.

Totally underwhelming. They didn’t even perform a diligent search. I’m sick of the way this franchise does things but I can’t not be a Cowboys fan. I hate it.

Well I called him every name in the book even mediocre when he was at GB. Now that he's here I like it. Not my first choice but yea could have been way worse. At least he's respected around the league.

Here is what I wrote about the hire in the other vote thread:

It all comes down to his coordinator hires for me. Particularly the defensive coordinator. IMO, that position will determine the success of the team. A good DC hire will create an environment for immediate positive results, because I think the offense is going to work right out of the gate.

To be honest, I think it is a good hire. McCarthy has a plethora of NFL connections, a book of offensive knowledge a mile thick, and is the kind of no nonsense coach that I felt like the team needs.

I also feel like a successful coach, when let go because his scheme/presence became stale at his last stop, tends to look long and hard at himself and make the necessary changes to update his coaching style. So, I do feel like McCarthy v.2 will be an improvement over what he gave GB. Plus, there won’t be a learning curve with either him or his staff in Dallas. He has coached a ton in this league and coached in a ton of games that were big and very much mattered.

So, there are a whole lot of positives in regards to what MM will bring to Dallas... but boy did I want to see Meyer or Rhule here.

I’ll try not to ding McCarthy just because I wanted one of those two guys. Besides, there was probably more risk involved with bringing either of those two in. All the concerns I had with them are non-existent with MM

I wouldn't care who they hire. I like it because it means Garrett is really gone.

yup more splash could have been made some of you feel better but the nepotism of the 10yr experiment of Jason Garett Jones is over..

im sure McCarthy has shorter leash 3-4 years show progress do something big or BYE..Great was an anchor here for the last 5 years and we are finally free of that, MM and jerry are not that close and Jerry will have zero issues firing him..

Absolutely love the hire. His resume brings instant credibility and I feel he will be refreshed after taking a year off of coaching in the NFL. Already excited about next season.

Kind of meh on McCarthy, but taking into consideration our realistic choices, I'm okay with it. He's an upgrade and he's won in the NFL.

Indifferent was my true thought, but didn't hate him.

All I care about is results, which will be around 1 year away.

Mike McCarthy wasn't my first choice but I like him a lot better than if we had kept Garrett.

Like some have said, the DC will determine the success of whoever was hired as HC. Mike will not have to learn on the job, has many connections and can tutor Moore if he stays.

He also isn’t family and will be jettisoned after 2-3 seasons if it isn’t working. Lets just hope that he isn’t a filler like Wade was for Moore/Witten to take over at the first opportunity.

Garrett is history, embrace that and enjoy the unknown ride again
