Don't understand the hype for a coach that got fired, then a year later Packers improve with new coach getting a bye in the playoffs basically with same team...

For what the Cowboys were clearly looking for, an NFL Coach with a positive resume, it doesn't get better than McCarthy as far as the options go.

I mean, it could be worse. It could have been Marvin Lewis.
Jerry interview Marvin Lewis should tell you he clueless, Jerry need step down as GM

He has Arron Freaking Rodgers so of course he going to win 1 SB and multiple conference championship. But you think Dak is better than Rodgers LOL. Rodgers carry the Packers not McCarthy. Dak could carry JG as well except he suck but hey you got the coach you want so watch bum Dak suck next year and you will have no EXCUSE, no WHATSOEVER!!!! Hahaha

Didnt "bum Dak" kick your arse and knock your Rams out of playoff contention this year?

In fact, the only team outside the NFC East Garrett beat all year that had a winning record was your Rams.:lmao2:

Think about that, Philly's practice squad beat Garrett but yet your Rams couldn't.:lmao:

this is blah to me... yeah yeah, he won a SB. Uhm........ wouldnt you have to really suck to not win a SB with Rodgers behind center for x amount of years? Werent we hearing about how rudimentary his offense was in his last 2 years at GB? I mean, he had Favre to start his career, and the rest of his career he had Rodgers. he has 1 more SB than JG... and he had Rodgers. he now had Dak. Are we supposed to now think we are heading to a SB in the near future?

Forget SB, I would just be happy with an NFC Title Game appearance.............Big Mike has 4 of those..........Garrett has, LMAO, do I even need to say it.

As for Garrett, he made the playoffs 3 times in 10 seasons..........kinda hard to make the Title Game when you miss the playoffs 70% of the time.

Just saying.

Jason Garrett of the NFC North?

Seriously? So his offense is stale we get that. But that stale offense got them where they needed to go and it worked. I just like his willingness to make changes and use a more modern style offense - something in Garrett's tenure here failed to do.

Then why did he have a 13-3 type roster losing the division to the Bears and Vikings? Sound like someone else we know?

McCarthy can't actually coach well enough to elevate his roster. When Aaron Rodgers is going full-speed Godgers mode, it can cover for a lot of sins. But when #12 broke down (he's never really been the same player since Barr laid on his shoulder in 2017), McCarthy's flaws become apparent. He's as helpless without his stud QB as Garrett was, and the Packers players admitted that they rolled over and quit on the season after Rodgers was injured. And shen Rodgers was back but not quite himself in 2018, McCarthy's lazy, recycled scheme really got exposed.

McCarthy can't win more than 6 games without a first-ballot HOF QB, and he can't win more than 10 games without a first-ballot HOF QB and an elite defense. Much like Garrett, he can only succeed by relying on overwhelming talent.

Totally underwhelming. They didn’t even perform a diligent search. I’m sick of the way this franchise does things but I can’t not be a Cowboys fan. I hate it.

We don't know they didn't perform a diligent search. Their search began before we were even aware of it. You're jumping to conclusions.

Who did it better?

Well, in the first pic the ref is walking towards Garrett............in the second pick the ref is backing away from MM as fast as possible.

I think Big Mike made the ref wet his pants, Garrett is about as intimidating as a litter of kittens.

How could he be hands off during the week if he was calling plays on Sunday? I'm pretty confident he wasn't calling plays without being involved in the game planning.

As for having a HOF QB helping him win, doesn't Sean Payton? Belichick? Didn't Mike Shanahan and Jimmy Johnson and Tom Landry and Bill Walsh and on and on? If that's the mark of a bad coach, then we are going to have to rethink a lot of highly regarded coaches.

Look, I'm not saying this was a great hire - I really don't know if he is or not. Time will tell that. But I think he is worthy of a shot, and of waiting to see results before judging. He's certainly accomplished enough for that.

He started slipping out of meetings, per a Bleacher Report article. And his offense was recycled over and over for years after his divisional opponents figured it out.

My memories of him are game management issues similar to Garrett. Am I wrong?
Yes you are wrong, MM is no where close to the incompetence Garrett displayed on a regular basis.

McCarthy never iced his own kicker or had his best players riding the bench on the season deciding play.

How do you know he can't win with more than 6 games without a HOF QB(s)?

How do you know he didn't elevate those HOF QBs to the status they are now?

Would you rather have Garrett back?

Probably, if the circumstances were equal. Hard to say, because we did reach the point with Garrett where a new voice was needed in the locker room. He had his shot this season to earn the extension and didn’t get it done.

I don’t think the GB job and the Cowboys jobs are comparable, though. The job in Dallas is a lot harder. McCarthy is a good coach. I don’t think he’s a great coach. He’s got a good temperament for this team, and probably is a decent fit for the media and ownership. He’s boring, though. And I don’t like his SF/GB roots, though that doesn’t factor into the appraisal, obviously.

We could have done worse. It’s pretty hard to get excited about this group, though. After the young team failed to progress last year and now hiring a good-but-retread coach. We’re going to lose good players in free agency and replace them with stopgaps. And won’t draft all that high to replenish the talent. We have to improve through the coaching change. And because the offense was actually effective, that means defense and ST to me. I like Nolan, but he’s a known commodity. There’s only so much you can pick up there. Lots of room to improve on takeaways and on Teams. Still, improvement looks pretty boring to me right now.

Special teams I think can be the biggest area of improvement.

Maher missed 10 kicks before we finally let him go, we pretty much lost the Pats game off a blocked punt, and we had a good chance at a return in the Minnesota game that got botched with the Tavon Austin fair catch with nobody infront of him.

Just fix those errors and we win 1-2 more games, especially with a decent kicker.

I'm quite satisfied with MM thus far. I like the idea that Mike McCarthy is more of a no-nonsense coach than what we've had in the past. He has had the opportunity to sit back for the last year and objectively take stock of himself. To me, it's a favorable sign of being one who is willing to do what's needed to improve himself in any way he possibly can. His study with the ins and outs of analytics do seem to indicate as much.

I don't see McCarthy as one who won't stand up to Jerry, if and when the situation calls for it. Let's see if Jerry has learned anything by way of his mistakes as well. It appears as though MM is being given more leeway when it comes to hiring his own people as his assistants than what the HC's we have had in the past. Apparently, he's being given more leeway than his predecessors. It's an encouraging adjustment by our FO to allow as much.

I'm reasonably sure Jerry will be free to state his opinions and that McCarthy will probably respect his right to do so and state his own thoughts as well. In any event, I'll be remaining optimistic at this point in time, without the full benefit of some positive results to go by, as yet. McCarthy's overall record is an impressive one that bodes well for a team as talented as the Cowboys. Let's take heart that it'll work and allow him sufficient time to make the necessary adjustments that most certainly will be required move this team past it's long standing "country club" culture.

McCarthy was not my first choice but he is our coach now. He has a lot of work ahead of him. Do this current roster know about accountability? Discipline? Attention to detail? Proper tackling? Being around a coaching staff who actually implement adjustments? This team knows little or nothing about that. How about learning how to be properly prepared for games (that's on this coaching staff)?

I feel that the upcoming training camp will be interesting. First on to the list is developing the culture and mentality of winning. I feel that Garrett did unnecessary damage to the teams' collective psyche by refusing to change and adjust for the team's success. A reason why the players just checked out in him. Gotta unravel what and how he and his staff coached (example: The mysterious WR rotation during the Philly game?). That will take time. Next, what will be McCarthy's plans for success? How will he help the players be mentally tougher? Players developing a winning work ethic?

I fully expect McCarthy to have this team being SB contenders in 2021 and bring home the 6th Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl LVI.
