We couldve done worse. Wayy worse.

im for it
If Jerry lets him hire his staff then I'm all for it. If Jerry hires his staff for him I don't know how much will change overall. I like it cuz I think McCarthy can help Dak develop into s better QB. So I'm happy. I did not want Zimmer or Fisher.

Well he's gotta SB ring...been there, done that etc.
He knows what it takes to win the big game and I like that about him.
Overall, a good HC with a winning playoff record.

All we can do as fans now is hope for the best.

Love it to be honest. Let's go back to 2014. Last Jerry went substance (Martin) over flash (Johnny Football), it turned out really well.

Mike Mac was the absolute best candidate available for this talented, but undisciplined team. He is known as a disciplinarian who will put fear into underachieving players (like Chido).

And say what you will, but he basically resurrected Farve's career, while also grooming Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers gives him credit for his development:

I think he can help take Dak to the next level too. And here in Dallas, Mike Mac (arguably) has more weapons at his disposal than what he had in GB.

And if we are honest, Rodgers' best years were under Mike Mac. As great as Rodgers is, what ever has he done without this guy?

The fact that he's been to the mountain top should immediately get the attention of the locker room and demand their respect too. Simply put, I'm happy and excited for his hire. Good job Stephen Jones.

Here is the take from BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1:

http://BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1/images/fball/cowboysb_logo.gif Cowboys hire Mike McCarthy: LOL Grade
I'm grading this as an "LOL" because I literally laughed out loud so hard that I nearly threw out my back when I first saw this news.

If there's been a coach who has been nearly as bad as Jason Garrett in the previous decade, it was Mike McCarthy. In fact, I saw someone describe McCarthy as a "fatter Jason Garrett," and I thought it was brilliantly accurate.

People will point to the fact that McCarthy won the Super Bowl, but that was Aaron Rodgers winning in spite of McCarthy. If the Packers had a coach better than McCarthy, they would've claimed multiple Lombardi Trophies with Rodgers. As everyone learned this year, McCarthy held back the Packers from reaching their full potential. He utilized archaic and predictable schemes, showed no feel for the game, and constantly clashed with his future Hall of Fame quarterback. In fact, Rodgers even lost on purpose to Arizona in 2018 because he despised McCarthy so much.

McCarthy did such a poor job in Green Bay that I would've shocked if he earned another head-coaching gig in the NFL prior to seeing this news. Yet, here we are. The Cowboys, for some strange reason, have decided to hire McCarthy in what is an utterly embarrassing move. Almost anyone would've been a major upgrade over Garrett, but McCarthy was one of the few exceptions.

It took the Cowboys six years too long to fire Garrett, yet they're stuck with the same trash coaching them. This is the easiest "F" grade I've ever posted. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to fetch my heating pad.

McCqrthy couldn’t get along with Rodgers- shocker.

Rodgers lost a game on purpose- what a guy!

I think I like McCarthy more for the simple fact that he was not just going to bow down to Rodgers like everyone else in the world of football seems to do

it’s a very good hire. Rodgers is a tool/childish in the grudges he holds. He seems like an extremely difficult person to get along with so I in know way hold his issues to Rodgers against him and I am glad Stephen and Jerry didn’t either

Yes you are wrong, MM is no where close to the incompetence Garrett displayed on a regular basis.

McCarthy never iced his own kicker or had his best players riding the bench on the season deciding play.

I hope I am wrong. Maybe it was just that one playoff game. And no way do I think anyone could reach Garrett's level. And at least MM appears to want to learn from his own tendencies and improve.

NFL exp. who gives a a hoot...McCarthy sucks and had been riding coat tails his entire existence in the NFL

That’s the fear with him.

how much of his success was because of ARodgers ?

Jerry wants to win. Now.

McCarthy would not have been my 1st choice but I do think he is a good choice. I think he will benefit Dak in his development.

Highly optimistic.

Cowboys' Cure for Close Losses?
i

The Cowboys couldn't win the close games this season, going 1-6 in one-possession games, the second-worst record in the NFL behind the Bengals (0-8). Mike McCarthy could turn that around. Since 2006, McCarthy has won 58 games that were decided by eight or fewer points, the fourth-most by any coach during that span.

COACH WINS IN 1-POSS. GMS*
Mike Tomlin 72
Bill Belichick 68
Sean Payton 62
Mike McCarthy 58

Initially I was very much, meh... but after a day or so of letting it sink in and listening to the positive things Chris Simms has been saying on PFT, I’m now very positive about the appointment.
Looking forward to next season a lot more than I was a couple of days ago :)

This is totally asinine.

His career is almost identical to Sean Payton. I guess Payton sucks too.

Uh, well for starters....saying he's worse than Garrett

I don't like either coach. Garrett didn't have Rodgers during his MVP season, though. McCarthy's 2011 team went 15-1 then became the first team in NFL history to not win a playoff game with that record. And I'd say the six drops in that loss were a coaching contribution. He is a middle of the road coach, and he's more afraid than Garrett to go for it on 4th and short.

McCarthy led the Packers to the playoffs in 9 of his 13 seasons as head coach, winning at least one playoff game in six of those nine seasons.

You can't win a Super Bowl if you don't get to the playoffs and out of the first round.
