ThisI don't think it would be good for a new coach to come in and say to the QB that will most likely get a long term contract that he sucks.
But as I said, if Dak doesn't take the next step under McCarthy, that means he hit his ceiling. I would HOPE that Dak only gets a franchise tag to see how he does with McCarthy. If he doesn't improve, then we move on. It's the most sensible thing here.
What exactly is it you think I suggested? We were 1-7 when Dak threw more than 40 times. I said he's most successful when he isn't throwing 40 times a game. So which part of my statement are you in disagreement with again?Clearly you did not watch the games this year.
The games where we passed early, on early downs, we scored points and built leads, and ran effectively in the second half. Pass first does not mean passing 40 times a game. Our offense was the most successful when we ran it 40% or less in the first half.
When we did what you suggest, we fell behind, and HAD TO PASS MORE. Passing early will actually lead to passing LESS.
I think he's a decent QB that is going to be vastly overpaid because the market for decent qbs is insanely overinflated. It is what it is.So you agree he is a manager and not a franchise QB???
Sure, this is where I was last off season wanting to see more before committing long term. The tough part is that someone like Mariota is going to cost a lot to sign. I like Bridgewater more than Mariota personally, but don't know if that is the right assessment. Regardless hard to see how we franchise Dak and sign someone like these guys for competition. There was a post last off season about the guys who could be realistically gotten if we let Dak walk and I found that very sobering. In my original post the best move is to franchise Prescott and see if he takes that next step with McCarthy who is known as a QB guru with a resume to back it up. I don't know how McCarthy will do for the entire team, I do know that he will get the best out of Dak. If Dak doesn't make a big jump, I wouldn't pay him the money he was reported to want and I'd move on.
I'd personally bring in a guy like Mariota in terms of veterans. It would offer competition for Dak, but if Dak flops, you have a guy that got the Titans to 9-7 in back to back seasons and to the playoffs. This isn't drastically different than what we get with Prescott. This also doesn't keep you from looking for a QB in the draft. I wanted Teddy Bridgewater for the same reason a couple years ago.
(sigh) Another "stat wh**e". I have watched this team for many years. I have seen the great, the good and the trash. Dak is a stud, a real athlete, HOWEVER, his passing skills are, well let's say, poor. He is consistently late and behind open receivers, especially on the favored slant pattern. Many of his deep passes are short of the preferred spot and receivers who have open field in front of them have to slow down and I have seen them have to STOP in order to catch the pass.
Now, going back to your statement that when this team passes early they win and when they run early they loose, I would tell you that what I have seen is when this team played a competent NFL defense that understood that Dak is the limitation of the team and took Zeke away (regardless of Qtr) and forced the Cowboys to use Daks arm as the primary weapon (more than 30 throws) they (the Cowboys) lost. Dak still got his yards due to the difference in defenses being played when the score is out of reach or when the opponent is just laying back keeping everything in front of them.
Can this team win with Dak at QB? No doubt, but they have to play a new kind of offense. It has to be centered on the run with mostly short, quick passes and the occasional mid range pass and near zero deep passes.
As for "understanding the game and situational football", my question is, when did you learn that phrase?
So when Dak is still the same average QB this time next year, what will the excuse be?
I'll take a plan over a process.Cool....he actually has a plan.
He’s going to get the ball out fast...heard that in James Jones interview.
Again, it is about causation. We did not lose because he threw 40 times. We lost because we could not run effectively, fell behind, and had to pass more. What exactly is it you think I suggested? We were 1-7 when Dak threw more than 40 times. I said he's most successful when he isn't throwing 40 times a game. So which part of my statement are you in disagreement with again?
Didn’t seem like Dal had a clear plan at all coming into the year. They couldn’t have...not with that much confusion and whipdee doo’s in the road. Feel like I just came out a funny house watching all that.I'll take a plan over a process.
I agree, I don't blame Dak tho. I don't know if Garrett ever had a plan. Or he had one plan and if that didn't work Garrett didn't adjust. I'm looking forward to seeing what McCarthy does with Dak and help with Dak's development. Now we'll know if Dak has hit the ceiling of his talent or has some room to grow.Didn’t seem like Dal had a clear plan at all coming into the year. That’s going to answer questions on Dak for sure. He’s got a lot of good coaches. Our staff just took a major upswing at positional and asst even without a HC. Figure that puts it on the players and FO now,a look in the mirror time for excuse making you know? That’s good for us fans..removes a lot of that grey area on questions we have. That’s what I hated most this year...I couldn’t gauge what was what enough due to the stupidity of the situation of it all,and being on shifting sands.I agree, I don't blame Dak tho. Damn you just lost some of your fan base......lol
Define won’t last. He’s played 4 years and will soon sign a 5 year deal. At what point during that will you consider that he “lasted”?If Dak can't be a pocket passer, he won't last in this league.
Right. And franchise QBs are pretty easy to get. We sign one or draft one. Simple.anything they can think of. It doesnt take 4 seasons to determine if a guy is a franchise QB
