Can we afford to trade a 1 for Jamal Adams?

In Nolan’s presumptive hybrid 4-3 defense that is more pressure-based, Jamal Adams would be the perfect playmaking SS, with Woods the ballhawking FS. No doubt, if he’s still on the market, Jets will ask for our 1. But with the CB and DT talent available at 17, and likely losing Byron and Maliek, and also having to pay Adams soon, can we afford to trade? I doubt it, but I guess it also depends on free agency targets at S, CB, DT. Thoughts?

I would definitely trade a 1 for him. Thats not the issue. It's combining the 1 w a new contract shortly that is the problem. The D is depleted. Which isn't a bad thing. But it will require a lot of resources to fill the holes. One guy can't occupy multiple resources right now

I believe you have to make an attempt at Adam's. He is far superior to Delpit, who wasn't tackling very well this season. Rather than just drafting a guy to fill the position, why not try to get a real architect for the D. I understand the cap limits, but guys like Adams don't come around often.

I’m ready to see the new regime with our players. My bet is Awuzie and even Brown are way better. I would let Jones walk.

Just a 1 and only a 1? I'd probably pull the trigger. It has been SO long since Dallas has had really good safety play.

Any more than a 1 and I would have to pass. There are just too many holes to be plugged this season, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

I d rather see if Cleveland was interested in moving Myles Garrett. After the last 3 drafts trading for an impact player should be considered.

New DB coach hopefully teaches to turn your head, so Jourdan Lewis may be one answer. We don't know about Awuzie or Jones yet, because they did what they were instructed to do, which was don't turn your head and lose your guy. They may be good at it, just don't know yet. But Lewis - he didn't do what he was told. He turned his head and went for the ball. Which is why he didn't start.

Sorry if this post wasn't about Adams, I just saw a few posts about DB being a larger concern.

Problem is, Myles contract is up after 2020. He is going to want elite money.

We won’t pay Garrett and Lawrence.

Why trade a 1st when we can draft a guy in the first? Besides J.Adams playing size and style has a clone in Patrick Nelson safety from SMU. We can get Nelson in the fifth of the upcoming draft.

Really? Not saying Nelson won’t be a player in the league.

But you wouldn’t give up a 1 for an elite, proven, first team all pro player.

But you’d rather risk it for a guy who may or may not pan out

I get your logic. But come on now

Why ask these questions, just take a look at teams that are successful in this league and consistently make the playoffs.
Those teams don't make a habit out of trading away top draft picks, they make a habit about stock piling future draft picks, and by so doing doge the cap restraints by investing in top 1st contracts.
This isn't rocket science.

I think if they come down to a singular #1, the Cowboys will pounce. He has pedestrian TO production, but I think fans may be overrating that. He is definitely a catalytic player.

The question for me is giving up draft flexibility for a sure thing. Alot of different ways they could go at 17. If they passed on a first straight up for Adams just to take Delpit, then Im fumming. If the pass to take Kinlaw or a CB, thats different.

I dont contract control is as valued as it was a couple years ago. Since the start of 2018, look at how many first round picks have been delt for players. I dont know if teams are anticipating a long term cap spike, but teams arent holding frp's with the same iron fist they used to

The team needs as many non $15-20 million guys as possible.
That's the problem with trading for stars who are on expiring contracts. Teams know they are going to break the bank, which is why they are open to trading them. We traded a first for coop and now it's time to pay him. We can't do that again with Adams.

If we didn't just pay Zeke, then maybe I would consider it. But you can't have so many players that are at or near the top of the pay chart for their position.
