Love Witten. Hope he stays as a Cowboy, but maybe he'll pull an Emmitt Smith and play for the Cardinals with Larry Fitzgerald next year.

It is hilarious that some of these post points toward Witten being a problem on this team last season. Witten is not even in the top 100 problems that this team needs to fix.

Agreed! I really hope he stays another year. However, if he must go, I think the Cardinals would be a good choice.

Here's my 2 cents:

Albert Okwuegbunam*, TE, Missouri
Height: 6-5. Weight: 260.
Projected 40 Time: 4.70.
Projected Round (2020): 2-3.
1/4/20: In 2019, Okwuegbunam caught 26 passes for 306 yards and six touchdowns. He is a mismatch weapon for the passing game, but his receiving production was hurt in 2019 by losing Drew Lock to the NFL and having Kelly Bryant replace Lock. Okwuegbunam's blocking looks somewhat improved year over year. Overall, his blocking is average for a receiving tight end. While Okwuegbunam is not a cowardly blocker like some receiving tight ends, Okwuegbunam lacks physicality and doesn't block to his size.

8/17/19: Okwuegbunam was one of the most dangerous mismatch weapons in college football during 2018, even though Missouri did not always utilize him. When the Tigers did use him, he produced big plays for them via his speed to get down the seam and his size to wall off defenders or make catches over them when they were able to keep him from getting separation. In 2018, he had 43 receptions for 466 yards with six touchdowns. He also missed the last four games with a shoulder injury. Some team sources said that Okwuegbunam is not a bad guy, but he is high maintenance for his coaches.

According to NFL teams' preseason data provided by team sources, Okwuegbunam checks in at 6-foot-5, 260 pounds. He is said to run the 40 in a quick 4.70 seconds. His arms measure at 33.63 inches, his hands at 10 inches, and his wingspan at 80.75 inches.

Okwuegbunam was a dangerous red-zone weapon in 2017, hauling in 11 touchdowns from Drew Lock. Missouri opened up its offense with Lock in the back half of that season, using Okwuegbunam as one of is steady receiving threats. The redshirt freshman hauled in 29 receptions for 415 yards on the year.

Okwuegbunam could develop into a player with three-down starter consideration. Sources say that Okwuegbunam is impressive as he is big and athletic, runs fast, and catches the heck out of the ball. Scouts say that they've heard Okwuegbunam runs in the 4.5s and not the 4.70 that was listed on NFL teams' watch lists.

This needs to be a McCarthy decision, not a Jerry decision.

Loved Witten over the years but at this point he really is becoming a progress stopper.

I think it is ..........in fact I think Mike has already given Witten his decision. He's assured his roster spot but only as a back-up. Think about it, his first comment concerning Jason after they'd and he refused to say anything about Jason's status, other than had a great conversation but Jason had something he needed to figure out. Now ask him about Zeke, Dak, Martin or DLaw and guarantee he'll say they are his starters.

Honestly, I don't he'll find a starting job with any team.

He sure wasn’t the solution.

When you're a tight end that moves like a lineman it's probably a sign it's time to hang em' up.

Love ya Witt, but it's time to part ways.

Like every player it's about how much and in what role.

If you told me Witten was returning on 2-3m a season and our TE group was Ebron, Jarwin and Witten with Witten doing a lot of blocking......hell yeah. If he wants to be no.1, playing 90% of snaps on 6m a season then happy for him to look elsewhere.

Witten is a bad fit here. He gets more deference on the field than he should. He's treated like a go to clutch player, and he's just not anymore.

After a very good first half of last season, he was horrid the last half. <5 yards per target. If they're confident they can get that first half production, great, otherwise move on.

I would like for Jarwin to get more of a role so I'm fine if we move on from Witten but I'm also okay with keeping Witten he can be a good blocker and still be used in short yardage situations as a receiver. He's been the Dallas Cowboy for over 15 years.

I would rather listen to him do color commentary in the booth than watch him creak along on the field....and I’d rather listen to rap music at full blast than hear him do color commentary. It’s time to start a coaching career teaching tight ends somewhere.

Limited snap. Seriously limited snaps. We will know for sure if we go TE in higher rounds in the draft or FA. It’s time for Jarwin to get his. We let swain go. I would let him be the starter but Jarwin gets the majority of passing down snaps.

I believe Witten feels he can still play another year or two and very likely would like to finish his career as a lifelong Cowboy. I also believe he thinks this team has a very good chance to not only make the playoffs in 2020 but also go far in the playoffs under this whole new coaching staff, so he definitely would like to be a part of that...if McCarthy is willing to keep him on board.

Yeah, probably all true but why would he play for a minimum contract? Why would he do that?

It got to where it seemed like teams didnt as much as bother to account for him underneath because he couldn't run at all.

He would catch a pass two yards from the LOS (when he didnt drop it that is), square up, take a second to try to figure out what was what, then run like had cement shoes on.

It would have been nice to have him around last year, but playing him over Jarwin clearly and really undebatably hurt the team.

Of course Witten himself didnt make that call, but ita important to know when you're beat, and he is done. Very done.
