If Big Mike was at that "I have to have Dak" stage, this would already be done. That's the gist of the thread, I am not sure he's all in Prescott's camp and the Joneses and McClay are going to listen to a HC who's forte is Tier 1 QB's. For all we know, the Joneses anticipated a stalemate from their previous negotiation with Prescott and Big Mike is not there for this QB but the next one.

They have a new HC. specifically a QB coach, and no deal seems imminent. The QB keeps saying he thinks a deal is getting done.

ok, i see your point better now, thank you

Daklemma? That's what you're going with? Did you think of that right before you hit the Post button?
No, before I even started the thread, cool, huh? Kinda goes with Daksters and Dakaters. Marcus, words are our friends and our best friends are the ones we make up. I haven't even gotten into Dakarious, Dakability, Daktatious, Daklicious or Dakilirium yet. Waiting to see if they sign him first, holding those in reserve. If they give him that big deal, some are having a Dakebration all off season.

Lots riding on MM. If he's light years better than Garrett, we literally have no idea what this team...or our QB...will look like. One thing is for sure, it removes the Garrett squad as an excuse.
Yep

And that’s what I’m most excited about. No more excuses for coaching . We can finally hold this highly touted roster accountable.

It's the epic damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

I think there is more risk attached to not signing him, the biggest being what is the alterternative. If McCarthy sees a guy out there on the market who can come in and run his offense at half the price, I say sign that guy, but all I see is Bridgewater if you consider age and ability.

With McCarthy's tutelage and an offense that exploits Dak's skill set, I expect Dak to be more effective as a QB and a better player than Bridgewater.

Amazing that a fan who enjoys words and puns so well takes such offense with Fat Mikey?

Not a question of just liking him. I like him but at 33-35M and hamstringing this team with talent around him, I don;t like him so much anymore.

That is the delimma, if I didn't like him, there would be no delimma, you are correct. It's not a question of liking him, it's how much do I like him. I like him a lot better at Cousins and Garoppolo money than Wilson and Rodgers money.

What is the alternative, flip the coin on a retread or in the draft?

I think the media has blown the QB killing the CAP out of proportion. The CAP is going up $12m this year, plus they are about to vote on a 17 game schedule and there is a new CBA coming.

IMO now is the time to get your QB signed as salaries are going to blow up in a few years.

Actually I’m excited our Football Idiots and Fat Mikey might not be totally sold on Dak. That provides me some hope.

Great point. Maybe it’s not just about the money. Maybe we have concerns committing to Dak?

I’d be so impressed if that is the case.

Big Mike is not an insult to the man, Fat Mikey is an insult because you don't want him. The man hasn't done anything here to warrant a slam about his weight. I do enjoy the double entendre's that Risen Star tosses out there but just nicknaming him that is a slam, just like calling the owner Booger.

Yes, I know, not another Dak thread but this one isn't about paying him or tagging him, it is all based one person's perspective, Big Mike. He has seen first hand what a high % of the cap to the QB can do and he had Tier 1 QB's.

Whether you are a Dakster or Dakater, I think most will agree, he is not a lifter, he needs talent on the field with him as we've seen when the RB1 was missing and there was no WR1.

So if you are this HC, with his experience with QB and salaries, where is the breaking point with Prescott as his QB1? What will paying a 2nd Tier QB 1st Tier money do to his ability to build around him and the D is building around him.

It's not lost on him what they're paying the OL and RB now and he's probably watched a lot of college QB's this past season doing some scouting and evaluating.

I do not doubt he likes Prescott but how much? Does he like him Rodgers, Ryan and Wilson money?

The market has a lot to do with this but if what they do the deal now that puts him in the top 3 now but barely in the top 10 in 2022 and he's not really a top 10 QB?

It is most certainly a dilemma with a QB that you know you need to put the pieces around him but his salary prevents that except for 1st contract players.

The HC's thinking on this is one perspective. Consider the Joneses. What have they said is their biggest regret during the Romo years? Putting the pieces around him.

The other dilemma is the effect of tagging the QB. New HC in his first year and QB maybe in his final. And the assignment is to be better than 2019, the expectations with this hire are as high as they could be from the FO.

And the ultimate dilemma, what's the message tagging sends to the QB, belief or doubt? This is not his first negotiation, the called the last one off with no deal. And the rest of the offense, how do they read a tagging?

No team in the NFL is facing the textbook "damned if you do and damned if you don't" like the Cowboys are this offseason.
I don't think he'd have gotten the job if he expressed anything less than 100% belief in Dak as the franchise QB.

That’s BS. You’re just hugging his hiney. He hasn’t done jack crap yet. No reason to kiss it. And Booger isn’t a slam.

But if FM has doubts about Dak that might bring some respect my way.

That's why it's a dilemma, it comes down to mitigating the risk but there is one fact about a QB like Prescott that is inescapable, he has to have the weapons around him and that leads to two challenges, the cap and depth. What happens because the team can't afford decent depth and encounters injuries? One thing that happens is an unacceptable ST's. The STC wasn't the only problem, the lack of talent was a bigger issue.

Those were my thoughts as well.

And why he was probably telling Jerry everything he wanted to hear. First signs of puppetry.

I can see that happening as well and I couldn't fault him. I look around in the NFC and don't see anything that scares me.

The do have the ability to keep that team around him for the short haul. A lot of that depends on how honest Booger has been with himself about the talent on the team vs the coaching results. Did he really believe all that BS about his HC that he was trying to sell the media?
As a group..

we are thinking McCarthy has all the answers to our past problems.

Maybe.

He has not yet had a minute on the field with the players and we have not idea how this goes.

We are going to be very patient if we can. But I am a little concerned with it all.

I need to see this all together and seeing the players respond and McCarthy in control to get a handle on it.

Unfortunately under Garrett, all we ever knew was that the team struggled putting games back-to-back.

It was always up then down..from game to game then season to season.

Tired of that beyond belief.

I would have agreed with that if the deal had gotten done and there weren't rumors floating of tagging him.

Mark, I thought that was part of him getting the job, "can't be my HC if you don't love my QB". And if you love your QB, you sign him, you don't take up where the stalemate left off last off season.

I do believe there are some folks in that FO that aren't on board with signing him, just as there were not many on board with drafting him. Where Big Mike is on all of this is a mystery. If he were all in on Prescott, we wouldn't be positing in this thread. He's the QB guy.

Every QB has to have weapons around them. Just ask Brady and Rodgers this year.

As good as their defenses were they didn't have enough horses on offense to beat good teams when it mattered.

Correct. And why Jerry caved in to Elliott. He didn’t want to see Dak without him.

So, the bigger contract out there might be with Cooper. Maybe Jerry doesnt want to over commit to Dak until he has Cooper signed.

Is Dak worth as much without Cooper? We obviously didn’t think he was without Elliott.

It was reported he watch a lot of film on Dallas as well as Dak, and that he has confidence that Dak can improve to be even better. He thought he was a very good QB.
