The "diamond surrounded by trash", who had a well-known holdout, is telling Dak to take less money? Give me a break. Shut the hell up Emmitt.

Agree but don't remember any commercials. May be wrong but I can't remember any on TV. just like in the NBA alot of players have sponsors but not alot do commercials. That is were you are going to make more money at, being on the tube.
he was on tv with frank thomas

I think emit is being nice about telling dak to take whatever is offered or they will cut your *** and sign something better for cheaper.

problem is dak wants to watch it happen. So, on to the next 8-8 talented qb we go. Hopefully he shows some talent of being good unlike the last two

The success of my employer has nothing to do with my personal merchandise sales. Cowboys? Um...I'd say YES. "America's TEAM!"

Amazing the rationalizing people will do to suit their opinions.

Cowboy players, are not designated, as prime endorsement magnets. Dak's, charisma and character, is a part of his draw.

Your rebuttal, suits your opinion therefore; you must include yourself in rationalizing. The moniker, "America's Team" means squat, to most fans, media, and players.

How many times has the team went 8-8, under Dak? How many times under Romo? Another question, would you take less; yes or no?

The market dictates what you are worth. If the Cowboys are not gonna pay him $35-40M, someone else will. I don't think he is worth that, but the market is what the market is.

Exactly. That is essentially what it boils down to. Market value and timing. It's pointless to cry and moan that i believe he's only worth 25 million or as much as 36 million.

I'm disappointed that Emmitt, my favorite Cowboys player ever, who has also has been thru tense contract negotiations, would publicly say something like this. What player xyz makes in endorsements and whatever else is irrelevant.

You think we'd be dumb enough to exclusive tag him?
Depends on whether they think he might be a no show for the non exclusive because it's highly doubtful any team is giving up 2 1sts and paying him 27M.

What Emmitt is suggesting is really dumb, no team takes into account the endorsement money in trying to negotiate. Does he get more because he plays for the Cowboys? Believe so but no other has ever approached where he is so that is due in part to his accomplishments.

No player was more merc than Emmitt, he shouldn't comment about another player's contract.

That isn't dumb. We've already offered him a multi year deal with a yearly value at around the tag amount.

No way he plays on the non-exclusive tag. And no way two late first rounders are going to net us a replacement.

Hmmmmm...........OK.

And thinking of BobH's thread, we disagreed, we threw out ideas, and suddenly I'm thinking he could be right. Not that hard if no one starts slinging poop.

Why do you think no QB has ever held out? And this one has a new coaching staff and offense to install.

I've seen the figure 7M tossed around for his endorsements, what do you think those companies are going to do if their spokesperson is a now show for 26M to play a game for one year? The target consumer for those products might make in their lifetime what Prescott would make on one Sunday and they're going to relate to that?

Every team understands the need for a positive image for the player perceived to be the leader of that team. The team doesn't even want to put him in a bad light.

I do believe that the parties will discuss the next steps of a tagging prior to that happening.

It has been widely reported that McCarthy has stated his intention of leaving the offense in place. It's one of the reasons he kept Moore and Nussmeier. He will tweak it and add his own flavor but the offense is going to be much the same. That said, there is no way Dak holds out and if he does he should be jettisoned at the next exit. He would be a fool to tie up 20% of the team's cap on himself. And the team would be foolish to do it. Doing so would mean saying goodbye to a lot of very good players and being mired in mediocrity (or worse) for the next decade. Who the hell signs up for that? Dak need to take 25-30 mill and be grateful. Every dollar he leaves against the cap is a dollar toward another good teammate. You only demand the max if you don't want good teammates. If Dak cares more about being the highest paid player for 5 minutes than he does winning a Super Bowl or three then I don't want him as my QB. I would be fine with letting him walk and starting over with a draft pick. I think we've shown we can do pretty good with a raw rookie QB ..

Why bring romo up? Looking for excuses for your dak (that’s usually what the dak defenders do)

if I was dak I would be doing exactly what he is doing, for right now anyways. And it may come back to bite him in the *** if the cowboys don’t tag him (which they shouldn’t).

if I was the cowboys, I’d do exactly what they have done so far as well. As a fan of the team, the last thing I want to see is run the same qb we had last year back out there with even a $5m raise, much less $35m. I’ll be an upset fan if they get him for $12m a year, that’s way too big a pay raise for what he does.

they need to let him walk and then we can all watch and see which of these mystical teams thinks dak is worth $35m dollars a season. Dak is basically Colt McCoy in the nfl, he is just another guy

When Emmitt was putting up back to back rushing titles and the Cowboys were on top of the NFL world, I'm sure he had his share of endorsement deals. They certainly weren't for the amount of money players are seeing today but times have changed. I'm sure if Emmitt was in his prime today and was putting up the numbers he did in the early to mid 90s, he would want to be the highest paid player at his position just like he did then or he would hold out. Dak is playing in a day and age where QBs who've done little to nothing are being paid an outrageous amount of money.

None of these QBs want to take less than what the other QBs are getting because it makes it appear their team doesn't value them like the teams of those other QBs. I doubt Mahomes is going to give KC a break to keep their team together when he signs. Regardless what he gets paid it may look like a bargain 5 years from now. QB salaries are going higher and higher. Derek Carr's contract looked ridiculous a few years ago and now we have a QB making 10M more per season.
You can't compare the endorsements of any RB to the endorsements of the QB, especially the QB of the Dallas Cowboys.

Emmitt is welcome to his opinion.

Truth be told though. He shouldn’t be commenting on another players contract. Retired or not.

That's not the truth because unless you say the same when people are on the opposite side your logic doesn't make sense. When everybody is going pay the man are you like he shouldn't be commenting on another players contract? If not well reread the first sentence.

there also wasn’t instagram/twitter/internet money then either. 52 other guys can’t make the lowest paid guy become the richest paid guy and be successful.

That one guy can be successful, but not the other 52. Dak is dead man walking, get him outta here
