Those teams swapped first found picks in those drafts, so they didn't give up as many 1st round picks as suggested here. Washington, for example, swapped 1st round choices, then gave up firsts in consecutive drafts.

reminder: players don't rise and fall this time of year.

Media just catches up with what teams actually want/think and adjust their boards accordingly.

Teams who wished to force a path in the playoffs, would focus on a huge sack outside force and a shut down cornerback...today, one might add a top shelf quarterback with 3 prima dona wide receivers. Having Ellis, who can catch well, and a good tight end helps out quite a bit. Dallas has all but a shut down cornerback and a top shelf 3rd receiver.

1. While not surprising, that's the first I've heard of the team thinking about Travis Frederick's long term future with the Connor McGovern selection last year.

2. So the precipitous increase in sacks and decrease in rushing TDs was just a fluke in 2018? I love Joe Looney as the reserve C/G, but he was just in free agency and the only other team I know of that showed interest was the NY Giants (Garrett/Colombo). Lots of teams are flush in cap space and there wasn't any big offers for Jumbo Joe. The NFL does not view Looney as a starter.

3. It's all about value. If we are adding talent, it's a good thing. Who the hell wants to reach for another Trysten Hill early because it's a "need" instead of drafting an immediate contributor at another spot? I hope Hill matures and helps the Cowboys going forward, it's good that Leon Lett is still coaching him here, but the light needs to come on this year.

Worth noting.
DAL had a top 5 CB and a top shelf WR3 last year and missed the playoffs.

The CB was good, but not shut down or worth the current contract he signed for. He was the #1 CB for Dallas.

A top 3 receiver this season, would push the opposing defense, back out of the box...and open up quite a few new options for a new coach.

Naw, I'll stick to not giving up the ghost when even Jerry would be excited after all he had seen. Even back to when he signed from San Francisco, both DE Charles Haley and CB Deion Sanders.

Not an even comparison...but at least at DE, Dallas currently has Lawrence, Smith, and Gregory to tickle a similar fancy point.

There isn't enough for Dallas to move up to get the only 'shut down' corner in this draft...best of all worlds. Three quality options at receiver, as well as protection for short-termed injuries.

Jones was a shutdown CB. His stats like opposing QB rating, completion percentage ranked him in the Top 10. If that’s not shut down, I don’t know what would be.

I get not wanting to pay a ridiculous amount of money to a CB. But to disparage him to justify your stance is weird. He was a top level CB and teams struggled to throw to his side of the field.
