I like to think the fault was all marvin lewis not andy d
Lewis was hamstrung by an ownership group that cares more about making money than the product in the field. There's a reason that Lewis stayed employed despite playoff success. He brought stability to a difficult situation. He's was actually very good with player development. Dalton is just an average QB.

Some of those Cincy defenses were monsters. Plus prime AJ green a great line, Eifert, Sanu, Marvin, Bernard etc

It gets tiring seeing all the Dak bashing and then over the top Dak defending, man. :) Most people see Dalton's signing for what it is...to backup Dak. Some pull out all the stops to trash him because apparently it's some kind of threat to Dak. That's kind of ridiculous. There are definitely guys out there that pull out all the stops if they think Dak has been threatened, insulted, or show disrespect in any way.

Dak has his problems. He has things he needs to work on. I've no doubt he'll work on them. If he wants a short contract and that's the main issue, it is probably best for him to play under the tag this year...if the Cowboys kill it, he's strengthening his position. As it stands, his negotiation position has weakened a bit. Like Romo, Dak is going to have people just not like him for whatever reason.

That’s why I am calling out the over the top Dak bashing by some fans who are dumb enough to want Andy Dalton to be the full time starter.

So, we can put you down for Cooper Rush or DiNucci as the guy who will take us “through the playoffs” if we were to win the division and Dak is hurt in the last regular game of the season.

Got it.
No, I don’ think any back up will take us “through the playoffs”. I just think their MAY be some upside with DiNucci and no upside with Dalton.

I thought hopes and dreams were to be in the post-season and win the SB.

The price ain’t going down Jerry.

Maybe Daks price isnt going up.... but you can be sure that Jerry's price isnt going UP either. And IM pretty sure that Jerry's price is the one that matters. Go ahead Dak, dont sign that offer and sit out. Maybe you could then go sign with detroit and see how much money in endorsements you will continue to enjoy with that Lion on the helmet instead of that glorious STAR.

first off hes backup ins second off why does Dak and romo get the Garett was more the cause as well as other coaches etc for not having deeper playoff runs ie outcoached by better coaches but Dalton now its all his fault lol//

good try we could easily go 9-7 , 10-6, and 8-8 ith Dalton maybe no deeper in playoffs but rather pay 3mil vs 34 for the same FN results dude seriously.. Daks done squat either..they are similar Qbs in production so lets tap the brakes..

the message is to Dak you aint worth what you are asking so yes the price was never where he thought it was, his employers set salary's not player and agents,,many good to great players are traded or cut or simply let go when deals run out.. Employers dont have to cave to insane offers..

you have it backwards..
You hated Dak making $2 million for his production but are advocating Dalton at $3 million for the same FN results.

Dalton is the only quarterback to lead the Bengals to five consecutive playoff berths, and one of five quarterbacks to lead his team to the playoffs in each of his first five seasons.

I noticed you didn't actually answer the OP's question. I'll guess this is why:

257 yards, 0 TDs, 3 INTs, loss
127 yards (46% completions), 0 TDs, 1 INT, loss
334 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs, loss
155 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INTs, loss
He was injured and missed the 5th loss.

1 TD, 6 INTs, zero wins

So, DiNucci will still be here. Rush is out

I don’t understand your issue

You don’t think DiNucci is good enough to help us win now. You want him developed. Agreed and it appears the Cowboys likely feel the sam

We had no competent backup at all to actually help us win games and survive a Dak injury

We signed the best backup available.

I don’t see the problem.

I would rather the reps go to a back up who might have upside, not a washed up back up who I have zero confidence in. If we find out DiNucci can’t be it i then invest in a back up in the draft like we did in 2016.

I'm kind of losing the thread here. Somebody help me out.

Wins are a team stat so you can't credit Dak when the Cowboys win or ding Dalton when the Bengals lose.

But Dalton is great because the Bengals went to the playoffs several times, which is just another way of giving him credit for team wins since that's how you qualify for the playoffs.

And Dak is a bum because the team went 8-8 that one time and only won 1 playoff game, even though we just said wins are a team stat and Dalton has 0 playoff wins in a much shorter career and just went 2-14 if we're back to judging guys by wins again.

This leaves judging players by their stats, which means Andy Dalton is great for his 87.5 career passer rating and single 4,000+ yard/30+ TD season (where he threw 20 picks...) but Dak's 97.0 career passer rating and peak season of 4,902 yards 30 TD 11 INT doesn't count because of... uhhhh... see y'all lost me again.

The best argument against Dak is simply not wanting to give him an excessive % of the salary cap. But that has nothing to do with Dalton being some secret franchise savior because of a few seasons he got to throw duck-and-chuck jump balls to AJ Green.

So, you’re changing your position or you are saying you want DiNucci as our backup.

if it’s the latter, then you are essentially saying you’re willing to go through the season with a 7th round small school draft pick as our QB2

You keep dancing around the fact that we all agree going with DiNucci as QB2 is wrong but you want him to still be QB2 on the off chance that 2-3 years from now, with QB2 reps all the way, he will be better than Dak.

You can’t have him be QB2 and a pure developmental prospect unless you are willing to say QB2 isn’t actually a true backup.

The Bengals sucked. We'll make every excuse in the book when the Cowboys don't win anything, but when the Bengals don't win, it's the QB? lol That team was the only one with crappier long term coaching than this one.

Hey, so did the Cowboys and our coaching sucked as well. We couldn't do much worse that play some games with Dalton. It's for sure he isn't costing us 33mil.
