She said the MIKE role....so, they’re moving him to MLB.
I'm pleased that the new staff has seen 54s antics at MLB, realized that wont cut it, and has the stones to move one of Jerry's pets.

The last staff either never would have noticed, and if they did would have been too stubborn to change anything.

I've thought LVE at Mike and Jaylon at Will was always the best setup. I'm glad we'll get to see it finally. The hell was Marinelli doing? How much of this defense was out of position?

Makes me wonder, maybe Crawford will be more valuable used differently with the new staff. He was never a bad role player just not a scheme fit.

Starts at about 1:22, good insight on the injury too.

Quick Highlights:

-100% healthy and in the best lower body shape he’s ever been. Fully ready for camp at 250lbs with no restrictions or lingering things to monitor.

-Spent last season “trying to tackle with one arm”. Neck stinger caused stiffness and made it hard to move neck. Made it difficult be himself.

-Will be the Mike LB in new role.

-Mentioned the Saints game in terms of how his role will look. Less sideline to sideline use and more running through gaps in the front 7 to make plays. Will be relying more on McCoy and Poe to occupy blockers to let him be free to get downhill and make plays.

I’m liking it.

Said this from the start. LVE should be playing MLB and Jaylon outside backer.

LVE is either going to kick *** or chew bubble gum. He's all out of chewing gum.

Hope some get the reference.

It's howling time again.

Sounds like a great plan, but I don't trust his neck will hold up, playing MLB.

We don't have a TRUE mike LB...

As one poster said it, your mike LB needs to be stout, with lower-body power. LVE doesn't have it, and neither does Jaylon, at least for the mike position. Many compare LVE to Brian Urlacher because of their similar frames, but Urlacher had more lower-body power than what LVE has demonstrated...thus far. He does have the frame to put on more weight, but if/until he translates that to more lower-body power, he won't have the "pop" that's needed for your mike LB.

Both LVE and Jaylon are better suited to play on the outside, not the middle, imo.

I think if you’ve got a neck issue that likely saps your lower body strength.

I wanted LVE at MLB since day one. Marinelli played most all of the defense out of position, IMO.

But I don't like the weight down to 250. He was 256 at the combine. He's a guy with the length and athleticism to get *bigger*, not smaller, particularly if they're putting him at MLB.

But as for "no lingering things", neck surgery is neck surgery. Didn't they fuse two disks? That's not an *improvement* in the design of Human 1.0. That's a kluge. I expect it shortens his career in the end, but it is what it is. Sad.

I have to listen to it again but I thought LVE’s agent specifically mentioned he’s regained full range of motion he didn’t have for years and that LVE said he’s never felt better.

LVE’s missed tackle rate went from ~6% in 2018 to ~15% in 2019. There’s something to this that shouldn’t be glossed over.

Lee was an All Pro at WLB. He's not that guy anymore, but that's still likely his best position. LVE at MLB. Smith at SLB.
It seems to be the best alignment with available starters.
Im really concerned with LB depth, more than most here seem to be.
Wish this team would be actively pursuing some possible quality depth,, maybe there aren't any quality available FA acquisition prospects outside of Golden from the Giants that doesn't fit this scheme.
Could MM be looking at Jelks as upside depth?
Positional move?

When he was a rookie we had him playing the Mike. Then our coaches got cute and decided to use him on the outside.

Just to show that coaching does matter. Ten years of Garrett's lack of football IQ has really torn this team apart. Glad that moron of a coach is gone.
They actually had him at Will mostly as a rookie, I believe.

Am I the only one worried about our LB's? Don't get me wrong I love our unit but I try to be realistic and what I see is :

1. Jaylon - awesome at times but also runs like he cant bend his knees.
2. LVE - again awesome player with a neck problem. I'm not a Dr. I just play one on CZ and I'm not sure that's a thing you want to have at any position let alone LB.
3. Sean Lee - a total beast that seems to be made of rice paper and is no longer a spring chicken.

All 3 are well above average players that I do not expect to play an entire season. Sure they could, but I'm not holding my breath.
