It's not entirely accurate, but funny for the thread:

Correct. I believe it was Garrett’s influence which brought him on board in 2011. He basically brought guys in to fit Jason’s vision of RKG( right kind of guys).

Will and Jason worked closely together and gained more confidence from Jerry over the years.
He gets credit for monte, rod and scott. But not will mcclay.

I wouldn’t say he wasn’t allowed. He attempted to influence but IMO culture was too toxic to overcome.

I never believed Garrett was enough. Just didn’t know what our alternatives were. I thought he might be as good a Puppet as Jerry would allow. Obviously Jerry was finally forced to make a move but not many believed it was possible.

so clearly there were much better alternatives while blind followers like you were making an idiotic argument to defend Garrett’s garbage

You can't really blame Campo as his teams were crap and was pretty much set up for failure.

Garrett wasted the careers of so many players it's unbelievable. I dont see how players can defend him at this point. He may be a good person personally but he was downright a horrible coach

hes deciding to either gauge out it eyes or punch himself. This pic SUMS UP WHO HE IS AS A HC. The bad head coaches just can't lead men and never learn how to delegate authority. That's true in business as well.

while your not wrong, YEAH, we can blame him.Rightfully so. You cannot expect results and maximization of talent when you install a faux HC to be in charge of the worlds most dynamic sports franchise of all time. We just got thru with that same issue under the Garrett error. The Jones family FINALLY woke up enough I think to realize that you must have legit coaches in charge, NOT PLACEHOLDERS.

Garrett wins this hands down. Someone put up a poll and see what consensus is.
Garrett was a far better x and o guy. PLUS he played the game and won rings being part of the team in the 90's. Saying that, he still wasn't a leader of men. That's the real issue. Can't fool the players forever. It came to pass last year and doomed us. I would welcome a poll. Campo, for those of us that remember him as the HC, was far and away the proverbial turd in the head coaching punch bowl...a black eye for the franchise. WORST HIRE EVER. Makes Switzer look smart and that's sayin something.

While we’ve had one constant leading Cowboys Football since our last championship , we’ve had 6 different HC’s unable to take us back to a Super Bowl or even a championship appearance .

How would you rank them during this time frame.

Here’s my order of worst Cowboys HC during this stretch:
Campo
Switzer
Phillips
Gailey
Garrett
Parcells

Not sure how we could place anyone but Campo with the 3 straight 5-11 seasons on the bottom. And Switzer left a mess of the dynasty Jimmy built. Wade left a mess of the team Bill had built. Gailey could possibly be ranked 2nd above Garrett as he probably did as much as anyone with what he had left . Jerry even admits cut him loose too soon.

The reason I rank Garrett that high is based on his record , division titles and playoff wins which the latter two are more than the rest combined. Despite his coaching flaws and dysfunctional situation he helped steer our franchise in a better direction and has helped influence this roster in a greater position to contend.

One of the best measurement of coaching despite records is have you left the team in a better position than when you took over. There’s only 3 HC in Jerry’s era which meet that criteria. Jimmy, Bill and Jason.
Jerry...

That’s not how I see it. IMO it’s not mere coincidence.

It was reported multiple times by the paper we can’t quote or link that Jason and Will worked closely together and Will basically looked for the RKGuys to fit Jason’s vision.

It was even reported after Garrett’s removal if Will would stay in place and how he would be effected without Jason.

I only defended Garrett because I wasn’t sure there was a better option for a Puppet.

And that’s really always been the core of my stance.

such nonsense on Switzer. This team was falling apart just because thats how things go. Players were older, lost players to free agency and injuries. It was just the back end of of the dynasty. Gaily came in and got us to 10-6 the following year but went 8-8 the year after. Switzer actually came in and tried not to change things up much because it was working. His first year he should have won a super bowl but it wasnt his fault that the team turned the ball over 3 times in the first 4 mins. The score was 21-0 after 4 mins. Sorry but Switzer didnt have Aikman throw an int (returned for a TD) - Irvin fumble and then have the kickoff return be fumbled. Even after all that we probably could have won had they called pass interference on Deon when he clearly interfered with Irvin late in the 4th quarter. The 49ers were a great team. You cant spot them 21 points in their home field. The following year went 12-4 again and won the super bowl. After that the slide started happening.

Campo has no talent. Those teams were terrible. Jason Garrett wasted multiple HOF careers. He had good to great QB almost the entire run. 10 years and almost nothing to show for it.

Worst coach in team history.

This is pretty much how I feel.

Campo inherited a team with sub par talent and no room to improve due to Jerry Jones driving the team into salary cap hell. Campo was by no means a good head coach but I view him a lot more favorably than I do Garrett because Campo was able to squeeze 5 wins out of teams being QB'd by Quincy Carter, Anthony Wright, Clint Stoerner, Ryan Leaf, and Chad Hutchinson. He didn't have much at the skill positions or defense either.

Garrett on the other hand went 1-11 in 2015 in the 12 games Romo missed. Drop Garrett into the head coach position of those 2000-2002 Cowboys and we may have run the table in reverse one of those years, 0-16.

Another reason that I'm not fond of Garrett is I don't think he ever earned the job in the first place. Campo, Phillips, Gailey, and others at least put in years working their way up the chain. They earned the opportunity to try their hands as NFL head coaches based on their coaching resumes. Garrett was simply handed the position through nepotism.

yes and your “core stance” was wrong

totally wrong
Yea, but for years we didn’t know that. There was no indication for a very long time going back well before Garrett.

We can’t just say. Yea after 10 or 25 years I was finally right. Lol

Yeah, I feel like Campo was just in a hopeless roster situation, which wasn't his fault, and he didn't have the power to change. Who is doing anything when they have to give Ryan Leaf meaningful snaps?

This thread just reminds me of how many games we've gone into with no advantage at HC since Jimmy left. We even got the worn-down version of Parcells.

If Jerry had any actual shame, he'd be ashamed of himself.
