So I was listening to Stephen Jones on 105.3 the fan at lunch and they asked him about guys stepping up on the defensive side of the ball..

He mentioned LVE looks like 2018 LVE again..

But then he goes out of his way to say Trysten Hill has really answered the bell. Saying he has really shown up in practice, he's been consistent, and doing a great job.

He also says he is really taking the reigns and running with it right now.

He speculates that maybe Marinelli was so tough on him early on that it was tough on him as a young player but he is really stepping up right now.

Stephen Jones also mentioned that Aldon Smith looks far ahead of schedule right now.

Sounded like Diggs and Tyler Biadasz are perfoming good as well.

He mentioned the lack of resources spent at Safety and didn't sound really optimistic about what we have back there.

If the McCoy injury helped in Trysten Hill realizing he has a career-altering opportunity ahead of him, then its a blessing in disguise. Hopefully the kid can start for us.

Will be interesting to read further comments. :muttley:

Been quite a few good things said about Hill. From TC players and coaches, and now Stephen.

It's always good when you have one of those unexpected guys step up and play at a high level.

It would be great if we got it from him because it's a big need for us.

He has athletic talent, he's working hard, and it's showing up consistently in practice.. All good things.

Yes that will be one of the biggest surprises from TC if he can. Well, maybe not a total surprise, as he was a 2nd round pick. But more of a pleasant turn around from last years TC news on him.

jason ferguson getting hurt in week 1 of 2007 put Ratliff in as the starter at the nose and he turned out great.
Ratliff had four sacks and played in every game the year before that, but still a good point.

The important thing with Ratliff, re: Hill, is that he only played 4 games as a rookie.

If we can be aggressive up front...like what it looks "on paper"....maybe we can take some pressure of the safety position...and in fact all the backfield.

Sounds to me like Trystan is getting credit for just showing up, which is positive, I suppose. I’m more interested in hearing reports about his play.

Anyone wonder if Stevie would have come on and said "Hill looks like the zero that we found him to be last year. We're basically screwed with the McCoy injury that we expected would happen since we wrote it into the contract."

Yeah, me neither.

A month or two ago there were a lot of people here that wanted to cut Hill, calling him a waste of a roster spot!

Lineman on both sides of the ball may need a little time coming out of college. Some big men in the NFL.

Like a lot of fans, I want to see Hill put it together on the field. I LOVE hearing the positive reports. It's awesome that it seems like his attitude is where it needs to be. BUT, if he's the next man up I hope he plays up to where we drafted him.
