I like Jesse but that statement makes no sense. No team in this NFL era plans for a 4 year rebuild. No credible source within the organization who is making real decisions would make such a statement.

lol. For real. Also it’s essentially “sources give me opinion “ lmao. Go away jesse

I think it starts with a HC who can put his stamp on the team.

I know this isn't 1989. But honestly if we're rebuilding, I'd be in favor for letting McCarthy go and bringing in Urban Meyer. Let him build this team his way, starting with a top 5 overall pick. There's more upside to that. Currently, under this regime, there's no upside.

I guarantee you this: back in 1988 this franchise was also going nowhere. They even had less talent than this squad. But in 4 years, well, the rest was history. That doesn't happen without changing the culture in Valley Ranch. And since the owner isn't going anywhere, the next best bet is getting a younger energetic head coach, and hoping that Jerry will let him run the show

That's not likely to happen. Jerry was miserable during the most successful run he's had as owner. Why? Because the coach was getting too much credit.

He'd rather lose his way than win another way. He's made that apparent the last 25 years.

invest 2 whole offseasons on defense, both draft and free-agency. you will see a big difference. Dak can play with an average O-Line. Next year, we have to hope our tackles can play 70% of the year. We can survive without one of them at a time. Knight and Steele will be battle tested. Hopefully Biadasz can lock down the center spot. But resources HAVE to be allocated on the defensive side. Its the truth though, we won't reap the benefits of the defense until in 4 years. But its fine, we will worry about the O-Line later. We really need to maintain one hole on the O-Line for the next 3 years, may it be one tackle, one guard, or the center. If its 2 of 3, we are in trouble.
So another Poe?

Problem is a lot of these guys were just recently locked down.

I hate this team. I hate it. I said before they paid these guys I hated it. Now they have paid them all besides Dak and are just locking us into mediocrity.

We pay guys just because some other team paid their guy.

We never win squat and we pay our guys like they are Superbowl champions and we wonder why they tune out and fail! We reward failure!

We want to pay Dak like he has had post season success! He has 1 playoff win and is demanding a 4 year deal on his terms!

I hate calling people entitled but my gosh this team is so entitled it's beyond imagination.

Win squat.. No jewelry. No rings.. Get big contracts and treated like rock stars.

You'll get a ton of fans who applaud it too. They want these guys to get that money. They want Zeke to get paid 2 years before his deal is up. They want Dak Prescott to get paid like he has won a Superbowl.

Byron Jones? Screw him.. He's only been our best defensive player since switching to corner.. Nahh.. We need to pay Amari Cooper 20 million a year because that's what good teams do right? They invest a ton into WR's? Screw your top 5 corner.
Couldn't love this more. I'm also in shock at how many think that our current dismal play is the reason you 'pay Dak'.. ummm we were losing plenty bad enough even with him playing.

The chronic over-valuing of offence is what has kept us in this mess. Yes you want play makers.. yes it is what sells jerseys and memberships and all the rest.. but defence and team balance is the key to actual on field success.

After searching for a lock down corner.. we finally saw Jones start to play well and we let him go so we could have another WR.. umm yeah about that.

When was the last time we invested, like really invested, in defensive talent at the pointy end of the draft?! We have spent 2nd rounders.. but ALL of them have been the 'long shot' type.. the 'could have gone first round but was injured/out of form/on drugs' picks.. Need to invest in building a D that is solid.. hopefully even good. The offence will flow from there.

When Dak went down we all knew this season was done. He was the only reason we were putting points on the board. Keep our Offense together and work on the Defense. If we are going to get a new DC I would like to see it happen now

Keeping the offensive together isn’t exactly a straightforward thing... If it’s going to take say 2 years to rebuild the defence through the draft, where will the offense be then?
Zeke is struggling now, so the running game will be weaker come 2 years time, and then there’s the OL... It’s patchwork now and I don’t see Smith still there in a couple seasons, so that’ll need rebuilding.
Then there’s Dak, he’s proven his quality but will he get back to full fitness and if he does, can we afford to pay him when we’ve got those high payed bums on defence still on the roster.
So if we want to keep the offense together, we’re going to have to do almost as much work on that over the next couple of years as on the defence.

Step 1: Acknowledge the problem. Step 2: Get rid of any of the Jones from making decisions on the team. Step 3: Hire me :)

Just improve year by year as best you can. Football at its core is developed year by year.

You have no idea what talent is going to be available year to year nor do we know how the talent we have will progress and regress year to year.

Quit putting the cart in front of the horse.

Yes arguably the one player we should have definitely signed was Byron Jones. Our best defender since being switched to corner, All Pro level yet we let him walk! You couldn't make it up. We have been gashed for big play for big play over the top and it's not all down to the defensive scheme. This is what happens when you have inferior players.

The Amari Cooper trade was problematic and is what triggered a few issues as we could have paid Jones. As it turned out we didn't need to trade for Cooper given how Lamb fell into our lap. Now I know we weren't aware of that at the time but the 2020 draft was loaded with wide receivers regardless so we should have just waited rather than forcing the issue by trading for Cooper. But Prescott was badly struggling without many weapons and I feel the real issue again here is Jerry. He's desperate to win now basically whilst he is still alive. Sounds a bit morbid but am I wrong? As a result I feel a lot of the decisions the Cowboys have made in recent years have been about the short term and winning now. Jerry is the GM and should be acting in the long term interests of the Dallas Cowboys - arguably his decisions have been hindered by his own bias of wanting to win now at all cost. As a result we are about to feel the pain of that cost as those decisions have put us in a big hole moving forwards and the front office are now faced with the prospect of paying a QB coming off a season ending injury a big contract with the salary cap being reduced and huge holes needing to be filled on the roster!

I think the "4 Year" time horizon is the best estimate for when Jerry is completely out of the picture and the team can be successful again.

Exactly,, there are no "rebuilds",, because all relevant teams already understand that its a constant rebuild process every single season.
Remember just last season hearing Rams were in need of the "rebuild"... lol
Cant have a long term rebuild when players want to get payed today.
The NFL is heading down a dark path when they keep paying player demand contracts that keep increasing the franchise pay , increasing the cap,, every player that has any relevance wants to be top payed.
That is what got out of control, and cant coexist now with the current state of affairs taking place at this time esp. and puts stress on the top management, FOs that all the winning teams have in common.
Look at all your winning teams in the league and look directly at their FO top brass, and then you can start to understand why the good teams are good in this league and the bad teams are bad in this league.

Without a doubt this will not be easy and we will have weaknesses. We are going to have to have a great draft and a lot of luck. Hope a few FA rookie pickups and vets can come along as the season goes on.. And hope the injury bug stays away.
