Dak is a better QB than Andy Dalton, but paying 40 million for someone like Dak is absolutely ridiculous and I don't understand. Good guy, but he doesn't push the needle. Even if dak is the answer, he's NEVER winning anything with jerry.

Sign a QB in draft. Trade dak to NE for picks. Or at least dont pay him 40 million. 28 million TOPS

I agree. I don't believe this team is going anywhere in the next few years so why trash the cap? Even if Dak is our best option. We can not go anywhere with any QB.

And these these guys do?! o_O

JJ extend Zeke when Pollard can do same?
JJ extend D Law after only 1 decent year?
JJ extend J Smith after half a decent year?
JJ extend L Collins being injury prone?

Where’s Dak $?

First 3 were bad contracts, and plenty of us said so at the time. That's not an argument to pay Dak 20% of the cap.

I think the franchise QB market is a bubble waiting to be burst, and the rookie salary schedule makes a 1st round QB an extra good deal.

Trade Dak to NE and you bring about another NE dynasty. I'm not sure who you're looking at but Dak Prescott has everything you need to be a SB winner. Leave your eyes out of this and let's talk numbers.

Dak's an easy decision this offseason. Franchise tag.

I'm a big fan of Dak, but you can't give a major contract to a guy coming off a major injury. That's just stupid.

Ya it’s what he does and you can go back further to include last Witten extension last Romo extension he is loyal to his players

Kraft and BB wouldn’t have done half the stuff Jerry does

You forgot to mention the $28 million deal for Dak is good on Black Friday only.

If he's 100% healthy, not stupid.

It'd likely take a miracle for this FO to get Dak to agree to a contract of 28 million for the next 3 to perhaps 5 years.

For reasons of the FO being fans, familiarity, continuity, or simply being afraid of change, I think Dak will be paid generously in 2021. I wouldn't be overly shocked if Jerry and Stephen end up agreeing to pay around $35 mil or perhaps even more, to settle a contract with him in the offseason.

Let's not be surprised if they fail to convince Dak and his hardball-playing agent, Todd France, to settle for some "team-friendly" type of deal. I think Jerry recently make some comments to the effect that Dak had been guilty of getting credit for "garbage-time yards" last year, in a posturing attempt to minimize his upcoming contract settlement.

Here in lies the question:

The cowboys were very healthy last year and 8-8. This year they are unhealthy and bad.

If you pay dak top qb money you are locked in and:
1. Everything was play calling last year
2. Everything is injuries this year
3. Dak has to play better than he has played yet, and make up for at best a mid of the pack defense
4. Hit on defensive draft picks and player development so big that it somehow takes them to the next tier

Question:
What is the cowboys reason for bad play the last 2 seasons, and if you strap yourself into most likely the highest paid qb in the league or near it, what are the improvements that take you to the superbowl, that you don't already have?

We turned over the coaching staff to answer who the problem is, I still think it was JG, it sucks that there is no way to evaluate the coaching position this year with all that has happened...wether anyone likes it or not...we need to give MM and Dak a season to find out and this year we couldn't. So probably a tag next year and see how they do......Worse would be letting him walk and watching another staff take him to the SB while we do a rebuild with a 50/50 at QB.

The Cowboys are going to offer Dak long term deals and hope they can agree on terms.
If they can't they will franchise him and continue to offer deals.
Dallas has often been annoying and slow played these deals til right up to a deadline.
Hopefully they don't do that this year.
They can use the cap savings versus paying the franchise tag number and it would mean paying 37+M for a 1 year rental.

Maybe Dallas has a number where they walk away but I doubt it.
NFL rookie QBs are far more hit than miss. And if you miss you waste years.
Jerry Jones doesn't have time to lift a Lombardi with a new rookie QB.
And you'd lose a good 20-25% of the fan base. As well as losing the prime of Martin/DLaw and others that would be a painful decision to make.

In all likelihood Dallas will draft the best defensive players they can and run it back next year with this team largely in tact minus some free agents they let walk.
Dallas has now lost 5 OT for multiple games including 2 Pro Bowlers and the All-Pro RG who shifted out, the league's leading passer, the starting TE, all 3 top CBs for various periods of time.
That's just awful, awful luck. And they've found the issues with this coaching staff.

There are issues to be addressed.
Special Teams can be aggressive but you better start putting your starters on those units if you wanna go for throats.
Going for it in general needs to be determined not by a chart but by your own circumstances.
Are you winning the line of scrimmage? Are you risking a lot? Do you have 100 reps of something you KNOW you can nail ready to go?
Far too much gung-ho nonsense bout going for it. There are no rewards for stupidly giving the opponent the ball already in field goal range.
That isn't edgy or cool or hardcore, it's just stupid, stupid football.

Dallas needs to find a 3rd RB. Zeke's snaps need to come way down. --As Sturm notes he leads the league by A LOT.
Dallas needs a 3rd RB they can use when fresh. Same as TP. Let defenses face fresh backs with different strengths.
Either go find a guy in free agency that is cheap and offers a skill you like or draft a guy with one of the many draft picks you have in rounds 4-6.

End of day most coaches would take what Dallas has coming back in 2021 and think they can compete for a SB with it.
Dak, Cooper, DLaw, Martin, La'el are near top of their positions.
CeeDee, Diggs, Biadasz, Gallup, Schultz are improving young guys with high ceilings.
Zeke, LVE, Jaylon, Gregory, Jarwin are useful vets with some high level play left in them if used properly.

Far too much talent in Dallas just give up and rebuild.

that would be devastating to the NFL.....all we need is a competent head coach that doesn't go for a 4rd and 15 from his own 20 with a long play set up....and a competent defense...

The reality on Dak for me is this: I'm not sure if he plays another yr here. They couldn't come to terms before the injury, and I don't see his asking price dropping. I can't see the FO willing to pay the money post injury they wouldn't pay preinjury. So another Franchise tag. Really wonder if Dak will sign it this time around. Time will tell who, if anyone, will swallow the bitter pill and make this happen. I suspect a QB drafted 3rd-4th Rnd as a failsafe
