No surprise as he was playing at an elite level this year before the injury.
I think he was carrying the team before the injury. We had a lot of our starting O-Line but weren’t playing very well. I hope we sign him. But I didn’t like the fact he wasn’t on the sidelines during our games.

I can't see any reason why the Jones duo would want him to leave.

They've drooled over him for 4+ years. Sure, they didn't come to an agreement last year but he was on the tag at a reasonable cap hit for a QB.

Sign Dak, Harris, and a DL. That would give them some freedom in the upcoming draft to not reach on guys.

When's the last time Quarterbacks picked #1 and #2 both ended up being good? Plunkett and Manning 1971?

The most recent one is Jared Goff and Carson Wentz. Even if you call Goff a success, for now Wentz is probably a bust. I don't think history is on the side of both Fields and Lawrence being great.
Why can't we be a bit more creative. Why is the easy answer just paying Dak 40 million a year. To me, don't ever pay a good QB franchise QB money. It will not work out.
Goff, Wentz,Cousins, Flacco... Good players but teams regret paying them that money and it doesn't work out.
I would have loved to had an an opportunity to draft a QB in this draft but we had to win 6 games and end up with the 10th pick. I think there is a chance someone still falls to us, I hope we have the guts to take him.

I just hope the FO and Dak come to a fair and reasonable contract for both sides.

My number for Dak is $36 million a year with incentives for play-off wins and cutting down on fumbles and interceptions. I would also give him a large signing bonus so his desire to make huge bank is satisfied.

Dak was on MVP Pace behind a make up O-Line and a fat overweight RB.

Ummm no. The sample size of a 4 games of which 3 of them were played against bad teams or teams that have average to below average defenses. The one game he played against a team with a decent defense he managed to lead the offense to 17 points. That doesn't scream MVP, more like a guy who was asked to throw the ball more and by virtue of having a terrific receiver group managed to wrack up yards.

Of course he is. I bet if he hit the market the skins would give up the farm for him. And we would have him shredding our secondary 2 times a year lol.
Also mark this down. Trevor Lawrence will be a bust. His impact won't be worth a number 1 overall pick. Fields will be better. Dak vs Wentz part 2.
Bro. You read my mind.

Would you want Derek Carr as your quarterback?
I think QBs get a label and a lot has to happen to change that label. The ways Dak has improved I think should have changed his label, except last year his shoulder injury impacted his accuracy the 2nd half of the season, and this year obviously the ankle.

For me, Dak’s new throwing motion put him in the 6-9 range. If the Giants can win with twice with Eli while paying him then Dak is more than good enough to win. I’d rather see us overpay QB then guys like Jaylon or even Zeke. But I am concerned the contract will be prohibitive, and obviously so are the Jones which is why it has taken so long.

People are forgetting that the hang up on the contract was length of deal, not money. Dak was okay with 35M last year, but wanted 4 years. To not sign that deal means 36M isn’t going to cut it since he wants to be a free agent in 3 years.

Dak can just play on the tag again for 37.5M and be a free agent next year almost 100%.

Why would anybody mark any of this down?

I would not say that. Yes, length of contract was an issue but there is no proof that money was not.

btw, Dak can also get traded.

DAL is doing and saying EXACTLY what WASH did and said with Cousins.
“We’re working on a deal. We really like him. We’re not tagging him again. We going to get it done.”
Negotiations aren’t even happening now.
There’s nothing to negotiate because Dak and his agent know they are getting almost 40 MIL for 1 single year of football next year no matter what. 40 freaking million for 1 year.
Dak hired the agent who gets the maximum and the plan all along has been exactly what Cousins did. That’s the template.

Cousins even said as much to Dak.

Depends how you define proof. Everything I read said the sides had agreed about money per year. Technically length of contract is also about money since Dak hopes to take advantage of the new TV contracts.

I define it as "proof". If you have some, show it.

Idk man. I initially thought the same thing. And that playing on the tags was part of Dak’s and his agents strategy. To make the most money possible upfront.

That being said, I think Dak’s injury could change things. I mean. The franchise tag strategy carries a lot of risks for a QB. Dak probably saw his career flash before his eyes when that injury happened.

I could see that changing his strategy and wanting a more long term deal.

of course that remains to be seen.

Cousins franchise tag play actually helped cousins and maximized his earnings. But cousins didn’t get injured in either of the franchise tag years. He gambled and won

Dak gambled and is staring losing that gamble in the face with the injury.

we shall see
