Bet, the long snapper will be the first signing, followed by extending the full back (not on the list). After that who knows....
* The #91 ,ever the consummate epitome of professional master of his craft, is an unacknowledged luxury, tho, sadly due to current circumstances ,might should be given circumspect consideration of the walking papers category on the above listed ( hell, ain't he older than George Blanda was b-4 he'd retired, already?)

It's a good thing to potentially be turning over a lot of this roster. Outside of Dak no one is a must return, but there are some guys I would entertain bringing back. You won't be able to fill the roster with rookies alone, so the Cowboys will either be going bargain bin shopping or bring some of their own back.

Smith, Awuzie, Wilson, A. Woods, Thomas, LP, Goodwin, and Looney are the guys I would be speaking to after Dak. Each are solid rotational guys.

Couple names off that list I wouldn’t mind having back are Goodwin and Noah Brown as our 5th-6th WR. He came into this year trimmed up and made some really tough catches for us and is also a key contributor as a blocker.

I’m a bit torn on Aldon Smith...he disappeared after the first couple weeks of the season. He’ll be what, 33 next season? He needs to come in lighter. I don’t think he was carrying bad weight, but he was painfully a step too slow to finish on more than a few plays.

I’m not a fan of Lewis in coverage. He’s an absolute penalty magnet and gets abused. I think someone will offer Awuzie way more than what we’d be willing to pay and a starting job.

So a typical NFL offseason?

Actually this is less than they have had in each of he past 3 or 4 years. Usually in the 30's.
I like this, as it means they can sign some of their own, to fill in gaps, even though they can still be replaced in FA and the draft.
They seem to sign about half of their own, let the others move on, get some comp picks. However, this time I can see them only bringing back about 1/3 of them.
And I am only talking about the UFA's that they bring back. RFA's and ERFA's are usually back if given a tender.

Now many will disagree with that, but you still need to maintain a core group of players. So I have no issues bringing back 7 to 10. As they can still be replaced once you find better players.

But this team does need a change, so I say no more than 1/3 if that many. And also look to replace some of the lower level players still under contract.
Bill Parcells said usually teams have a 25% to 33% turnover. So maybe 40% would be good.

I think Awuzie could be back here on a one year deal. He missed alot of time in a walk and might be willing to sign a 1 year to re-establish a market.

If Awuzie comes back we arent taking Surtain or Farley. With that being said, as much as Chido sucked this year I hope hes resigned just so we wont be tempted to take the corner

There are a handful of guys worth having a conversation with. Keep them for the right price but otherwise let them walk.

That's exactly what I am thinking.
It's a win-win. He gets a year to increase his value, and we don't feel pressured into taking a CB in the 1st, unless he is clearly the BPA.

Prescott isn't going anywhere.
Looney and Joe Thomas are both quality backups that can be had for reasonable deals.
If Aldon Smith wants to come back on a reasonable deal then he should be resigned.
I would offer Lewis and Awuzie both contracts on par with what the signed Anthony Brown for to see if either one bites. Awuzie would be nice because he could actually move to Safety or stay at corner if the draft doesn't break our way.

Every one else can test the market.

Call me crazy but they need to sign a bunch of these players simply because they need numbers. Dak is obviously the one guy they need to sign. But as I have said, he needs to be willing too. If he will not sign a reasonable deal then I would franchise him and trade him.

I would also try to sign either Awuzie or Lewis, again, assuming the money is not ridiculous. I prefer Awuzie to Lewis, but I think Chido will attract more attention and sign for a bigger contract than Lewis.

I would pay someone to take Zavier Woods from the Cowboys.

I think Aldon Smith is going to leave because I think he wants a bog payday.

Beleive it or not, I would try to sign Noah Brown, but not for an exorbitant contract. He is the best block WR the Cowboys have and that is really important to the running game. If Blake Bell leaves too, they are giving a lot up in blocking. Since Dez left, this team has had trouble running outside mostly because their receivers cannot block. This is one reason why those WR screens lose yards 9 out of 10 times they run them.

They will probably sign Ladouceur again. Who else will long snap?

Out of Lee, Thomas and March, I suppose they need to sign one simply for depth. Again it's a numbers game.

They may have to sign Looney as well, unless they can convert Connor Williams to a backup center, as some have suggested. Otherwise the only Centers they have are Biadasz and McGovern, and McGovern is really a guard, and maybe a starting guard.

I actually thought Erving did a good job when he played. The problem is injuries, just like Tyron.

Does anyone else thing 22 FAs is a screwup by the front office? The Cowboys had a lot of free agents last year too. So much churn every season seems like a bad way to run a team.

I don't think it would have much to do with draft plans. We will play 3 CB's 70% of the time. It just likely drops Brown to #4

Pretty dreadful list besides Dak. Only others I'd even bother with because we are sooo short on CB's is the cheaper of Awuzie or Lewis. CJ Goodwin is a good Special Teamer so he may be valued because of that. Anyone else would have to be on the cheap for depth. I think most of these will be gone but the whole "we like our guys" cancer seems to still be active even after Garrett.
