Would you take 3 years of Rodgers or 4 of Dak?

Just curious and I’m a dak supporter but taking a pulse of the fan base here say Rodgers was a free agent and could be had for 3 years vs dak at 4-5 with less guaranteed- who would u take

I'd take a romantic weekend with Kate Beckinsale, which is as likely as the Cowboys ever signing Aaron Rodgers.

I'm a Dak fan but that scenario would be tempting. I've also thought about something similar with Darnold. If the Jets offered us 3 first rounders and Darnold for Dak then I think you have to take that deal.

Yeah, I think I would, too. I don't have a huge issue with re-signing Dak (although I also want to use the top pick on a qb, too). But basically you're switching lottery ticket holders and gaining however many draft picks. And Darnold is only 23.

If Dak was only going to play 4 more years I would lean towards Rodgers in this scenario. However Dak is more likely to play 12 more years and that tips the scales.

And I'd still take Rodgers.

When Peyton Manning was leaving the Colts, I remember very distinctly a sportstalk guy asking on air, "Would you take Peyton Manning for only 2 years or Matt Flynn for 10?" I was like, Peyton for 2. Definitely.

This one is dumb on a lot of levels.
This is Superman versus Batman stuff not reality.

Aaron Rodgers WANTS AN EXTENSION NOW.
Yes, he wants a new deal this off-season that raises his 33.3M AAV to top of the league.

Aaron is not 1 year older than Dak where a 3 versus 4 discussion makes even an iota of sense.// HE IS 10 years older.

The 4 years of Dak extends the relationship but it doesn't mean you are looking for a new QB in 3 years.

AR is phenomenal. He is better today than Dak though his own injury history the last 4 years is probably more worrying than Dak's 1 injury this year.
But he is 37.
So the question is would you rather extend a 27 year old just hitting his prime or sign a legend with 3 years left.
And the answer there is easy. You keep the kid and build.

I would take 3 years of Rogers over 5 years of Dak. At least you have a high probability of winning 2 superbowls not just because of how good Rogers is but because of how some other players would follow him here. Jerry Jones wouldn't know what do do with a QB of that skill level. Dak is good don't get me wrong I like good that's mediocre. I would like to have a great QB just once since Aikman.
This is dumb.
Players can't follow you if teams won't sign you.
Dallas is stingy as can be with cap space.

Rodgers is a jerk and has attracted very few free agents EVER.
A good deal of his former teammates despise him.
He is not Tom Brady.
He's won the same amount of Lombardis as Mike McCarthy.

People make up goofy narratives in their head.

Hypothetical, but still a good question. IF Rodgers was a free agent, I think the answer is obvious, I would sign Rodgers and move on from Dak, assuming Rodgers does not want $60 million a year. The best thing for Dallas is to get this contract business settled one way or the other. The uncertainty hurts the team. Does anyone really know what Dak wants? Is it really just 4 years instead of 5? I find that hard to believe that the money was okay but the years were not. If Dallas offered $35 million and Dak was okay with that but just for 4 years and Dallas did not agree to the deal then they are insane. Something tells me there is more to this inability to get a deal done than the contract term.

Anyway, Rodgers is better than Dak. He is not Tom Brady, who brings something else to the table that not many QBs do, and we saw it in the Super Bowl. Brady is a winner and demands it of his teammates. I don't think Rodgers has that.

It is a risk, of course, because we don't know that Rodgers will play like Brady as he gets older. Rodgers is not Brady in more ways than 1.

I have to be honest, I am very concerned that Dak is not going to work out a deal with Dallas because he or his agent would rather he tested free agency. Dak has all the leverage right now and he knows it. If I am right, then moving on from Dak is the only real move Dallas has.

At 40M per year? Neither one.

Blows my mind how some can't understand that there is a hard salary cap in the NFL..

As it stands , we will have 60 to 70% of our salary allocated to the offensive side of the ball..

Guys like Zeke, Dak, Amari, and the O line are among the leagues highest paid players.. And you think that you can build a top 5 defense with JAGS? Ok..

After we "pay the man!" Do you honestly think our defense will magically become a top unit in the league with scrub players? Even if you draft good players, they need at least 2 years to grow and by that time Dak will demand an even bigger contract.
Rinse and repeat..

But i guess we got our scapegoat for the next 4 years ready.

Defense is built through the draft, not in FA. Defenses arent built with 20 extra million you save on the QB.

the question in itself answers it self. Reigning NFL MVP and possibly one of top 10 all time or Dak.(who I like). Rodgers without question.

great answer and a good perspective. Also appreciate you actually answering the question in depth and not a snarky attempt at humor. It’s not a no brainer like people here scream and I’m genuinely interested to hear both sides. You articulated your thoughts perfectly!

So Rodgers is just going to come to Dallas and win 2 superbowls in 3 years.....

That's funny since it's been 11 years since he won a superbowl and has only 1 his entire career but now he is going to win 2 out of 3 years with a terrible Dallas defense.

Haha you guys are so delusional it's pathetic

Thanks! I think this Dak thing is a lot more complicated than people sometimes make it. It is not just about if Dak is good enough or not. People always want to make it a Dak is great vs Dak sucks. With the CAP, there is always the question of value. Also, whether Dak signs or not is a two sided question. Dak has to agree to a deal too and so far he hasn't. If Dak refuses to sign, it doesn't matter what the Cowboys want or think. And the longer Dak takes to sign the more I believe he has no intention of signing, and he wants to test free agency.
